!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

High detail textures did exist but they were removed because of the file size - this came from someone who worked as an artist on the game - can't remember where I read it.

The reason the game looks great from a distance but ropey close up is that it's been designed to be played on a TV screen with the player sat a few metres away.

I'll leave it upto you to figure that one out , I'm not gonna say the c word.......

Nice to know a patch is out. As soon as they release a high res graphics / texture pack then I'll definitely be buying the game (could even be down to £9.99 by then)

this is so funny.
my game was working great!
but after the patch is installed,it does not work at all now just crashes to the desktop lol
so all you guys that is was working poorly for,it must run great!!!

Tearing still for me

Running this on a 560ti with the BF3 nvidia drivers, steams applied the settings patch to Rage so I can play with the various VSync options (Smart, on or off). Unfortunately it's made no difference, I still get tearing. I've noticed that once I've made the setting change go back into the game then go back into the video settings Vsync is always displayed as off. Anyone else seeing this, could it be that even though I'm selecting Vysnc on it's not applying the change even though it makes the config change ?

Cheers

Update :

Just removed the force vsync option in both nvidia control panel and the launch options for Rage within steam and it makes no difference to the tearing. I've also verified that on my install all of the video setting options keep their settings once saved with exception to vsync. Have tried making the setting change with vsync on it's own and another time with other changes, vsync is always displayed as off when I return to the video settings.

Have you got v-sync set to always off in the nvidia control panel?

Working even better since the patch for me. Running even smoother, and pop is gone entirely now.

Back to wasting more time on five finger fillet. :o

Five finger fillet was rage enducing after striking out on the last round countless times :p

Found that my eyes were following the red dot and trying to click when the light popped into vision, instead try looking at the light and click when you see the dot come into view and out of your peripheral vision, much easier.

Has the texture issue been sorted?

Also after knowing this, really want the game but im holding off as there is far too many issues at peasant. watched a friend playing and the texture pop in bugs the life out of me.

Completely sorted for me since the patch, no popping. Using 11.10 prev2 drivers, single 5850, set texture cache in rage to large and v-sync on.

No config edits and stays at nearly constant 60fps and looks beautfiul when playing the game and not zooming in on close up textures.

Others on steam forums are in agreement whilst some say it's still noticeable though...

hmm, may take the plunge then, not that it makes much difference but can any one comment on weather there's a large amount of hours of game play in this?

Done it now. :D Very frustrating. :o

Would someone mind checking if their vsync option stays selected as on in game please ? Once I've got a couple of answers I might think about a reinstal :(

I also have a 560 and I also had this problem. It was a bit strange. For some reason the Nvidia CP was set by default to force v-synch OFF (not my doing - I never play with it). Can't remember if it was in the global settings or specific to the Rage.exe, so check both. Once I had changed it I could select V-synch in-game and it stayed selected. I have it set to Smart and all tearing is gone :). It's fantastic.

I'm also using the Rageconfig.cfg posted in the Steam Forums for a 1.5vram card. Without it, and with v-synch on, I get massive stutter.

Damnit, I had it all working nicely yesterday... Reasonable-res textures (16384), no texture pop, solid 60fps framerate. I was even starting to get into the game itself after visiting wellsprings and doing a few races.

Now I can't even get the game to run.

Read the patch release notes in Steam; they did suggest that this might happen under certain circusmtances, and had some advice about what to do.

"When VSync is turned ON you should not see screen tearing. However,
any time your frame rate drops below 60 frames per second you will
get a sudden more severe drop to 30 frames per second.
This is how VSync
inherently works. If your computer cannot maintain 60 frames per
second and you miss the synchronization to the vertical retrace of
your monitor then you will miss a whole frame and synchronize to
the next frame instead."

Is this the case with all games or just Rage?

I thought Vsync, just capped the fps to 60fps, not potentially cause lag in its self....

Yes - it's the case with all games. Vsync stores a frame in the framebuffer so it can be output in time with the monitor refresh and avoid tearing. The 60 -> 30fps drop is one drawback of vsync. Increased input lag (leading to more sluggish feeling controls) is another.

If you're interested, I gave a load of detail about vsync earlier in the thread - in this post.
