!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

Another point, if all the issues were driver related why has the patch fixed the glitching and texture pop-up for many people?

Carmack full of **** perhaps.

Read the patch notes, there are half a dozen entries that say "workaround for driver issue".

Well i must say something was right with the patch, as per my previous problems, i removed all command lines from steam, and took out the config and atiogl.dll thing and fired it up...and lo behold it actually runs, its running at 32fps though, and a little jittery but not too bad - This week i think ill try and pick up a cheap Quad 775 to go in my system.

To be fair Carmack comes across as very arrogant and stubborn in his beliefs.

The fact he even considered letting his engine decide the 'best' graphic settings for PC gamers who are full of people who love to tweak is just mind boggling, living in a bubble.

Patch works great here too. Removed the rageconfig I made and just installed the patch and turned the dials up in the game. Runs perfectly now.

To be fair he does understand the technology a lot better than most people, infact its fair to say 99% of the people posting in this thread really don't understand the texture streaming tech in this game and the implications - that said lack of any real tweaking options in the menus is a bit :O. Most of the config tweaks I've seen being banded around actually make things worse in general due to lack of understanding and even worse half the cvars are from the idtech4 engine and don't even exist in RAGE at all.........

Totally agree, i don't have the slightest clue about engines (evident from my posts :p), but it is still quite clear that when he thinks something he believes he is right and there isn't much else to it.

Also they have no one but themselves to blame for the launch 'cluster ****' as he put it, they have all the money they need to test out the game on a variance of different machines and drivers to be sure.

But it's more fun for Bleek if he can obliviously pretend he was right all along. ;)

This tbh. Some people just seem to want to tweak for the hell of it. :o Each to their own though.

And that about sums it up.

As a consumer I could not care less about whether drivers have been developed/released promptly or not. My obligation and responsibility is to ensure that I have the latest driver set which has been publicly released by my GPU vendor. If the developer states a minimum hardware requirement for their product and my set-up meets that requirement, the product should work to an _expected_ standard.

Cheers, Paul.

I think you need to be that single minded to get to where hes got, as someone with aspirations to that level of engine development its easy to get side tracked second guessing yourself, etc.

Well since the new patch its working completely fine for me now :D

Loving the game its really good fun tbh. I like the mini games the racing at wellbeing is awesome. So is the card game :) I can see myself playing that card game more than I should be tho lol

I have a similar rig but have a 6870 instead and since i started using the new 11.10 drivers and the new patch it runs very smooth and at a constant 60fps, a massive leap from before the driver update and patch.

Humm interesting, might be getting it sooner than I thought :D

To be fair to it, I've not had any problems other than some texture fill in, I downloaded the ATi Rage performance drivers striaght away and its been fine since I started.

Have to laugh at matey there who cant work out how to change between mini guns and rockets in the cars.

anyone else still having problems with the latest patched rage version?.

I'm running a 5870 on the latest 11.10v2 drivers, win 7 64. Game crashes back to the initial 'RAGE' screen immediately after the opening cinematic (asteriod hit one).

I've used one of the custom configs above however I find that my HD is constantly thrashing?

I'm running an i7 920 @ 3.8/Nvidia 480/12GB RAM/2TB WD Black games drive
