!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

Just downloading so so ill give you a run-down tomorrow if nobody gives a good say by then but it looks a decently set out game.

I appreciate the work on this game, but test it before releasing it, damn it :(

We shouldn't have to wait one or two months for a patch after we bought a game, to play it smoothly.

For those having trouble getting vsync to stay on, go to nvidia control panel, manage 3d settings, program settings, select rage.exe, select vsync: use 3d application.

I had the same problem and nvidia control panel was forcing vsync off

People are just desperate to complain about the textures.

The combat is a little linear but you can at least enjoy it for what it is. The way the melee enemies move and navigate the map is really impressive. My main gripe is the excessive invisible walling (and probably the lack of lean in a game that really demands it). Take Dead City, an extremely impressive landscape but everything just has an invisible barrier round it so you can't jump over small obstacles and have to look for only one way which really spoils things.

You must at least agree that the textures in parts of the dead city are well below the current standard, simply awful. From afar, yes, the game looks spectacular but this is an FPS you are going to be up close to walls/objects to take cover and so you will see this is a big problem. It massively detracts from the visual and immersion elements of the game. This must be a bug, there is no way the guys from QA said it was passable.

My own personal config is this, I love WIDE so I have set a custom FOV.

Code:
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 "8192"
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly "8192"
vt_pageimagesizeunique "8192"
vt_pageimagesizevmtr "8192"
vt_maxaniso "8"
vt_restart
image_anisotropy "8"
cvaradd g_fov "120"
+cvaradd g_fov "120"
g_fov "120"

I CBA testing which FOV switch works so added all 2, one of them works lol.

Which makes the game look like this: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=20263756#post20263756

"+jobs_numThreads 1" gives me the_frozen_for_several_seconds_experience every 0.5 seconds :(

"+g_fov 90" works an absolute treat though. Although have decided to play on my m11x, as it plays far better than my main desktop. hohum!

Cheers, Paul.

you need to use 0 for threads with c2d.

Is it as close to a borderlands game as the first impressions would give or is it a bit more linear?

So far it has been very linear, the most freedom you get is to choose in which order you do your missions and whether you do the little side quests.
Currency system is a joke, I have money coming out of ALL my holes.

Just started with latest patch and drivers etc, and while it doesnt bother me too much is there any way to improve the textures after the patch as I heard some of the config tweaks make things worse now.

Is it normal for this game to have such bad textures? It just seems like they're using the exact same textures from the console versions, and haven't done anything to them on the PC at all. Way too low resolution.

For a new PC game, or any PC game within the last 4 years, they look appalling.

Some of the textures are bad, but once I stopped faffing about and started playing properly, I hardly noticed it anymore. The main problem was the texture popping and screen tearing, which the patch has fixed for me.

The graphics aren't revolutionary, but at the very least the developers should be given credit for making a game that runs at a constant 60fps (literally) with little or no hitching/stuttering.

I seem to find myself running around shooting enemies more often than stood still staring at a wall.
Id rather have a great playable game in motion than a high res stuttering mess.

I dont have any problems apart from the textures looking like ****. It's really not acceptable. Some games that are 6 years old have better textures.
Yeah it runs really smooth, but of course it does, Carmack worked on the engine and no one is better than him.

ID Software were a PC only company, they exist because of PC and have always put it first. The fact they've released this game and done such a poor job with the PC version is REALLY disappointing. I've been supporting this company since the original Doom. They INVENTED the FPS genre. John Carmack is a legend. I'm so disappointed with the PC version, they haven't changed or improved anything from the console versions and it seems like a second class effort.

yay, well, game on loading a new area decided to instead of load the new area, go to the menu, try to load autosave, straight to menu, leave game, game crashes, try to load game, it won't load anymore, wooo.

POS game frankly, the combat is meh, same tactics and enemy tactics, two bosses so far, neither even slightly difficult. Can't decide, it wants to be part RPG but makes money so painfully easy to obtain I bought every upgrade as its available and have more ammo than I'd ever need with $1000's left over.

Few crashes but not many throughout, till the game simply won't start anymore, textures, wow on getting to Dead City I didn't realise just how shockingly bad the textures could get.

Up till the crash I've had very very few stuttering/loading texture issues(after the first 5 mins when I assume its somewhat loading stuff into cache, though I've also added a config file to fix the texture size to 8000k, etc, etc.

Thanks for the update on jobs_numThreads.

That game looks STUNNING. 22gb file size on XBOX!

I hope to god i actually do more than just buy it this time, and play BEYOND the first 30 minutes before it all gets too much. Crysis 2 and Gears 2 suffered that fate.

Do you get a choice with game difficulty; easy, medium, hard or nightmare?

Either that was a very stupid question or its a complete coincidence that you listed the difficulties of the game exactly.

I went for Hard, I'll give Nightmare a try next I guess. Honestly it isn't all that difficult though, but the game REALLY needed a lean. The number of times you have to peak around corners to shoot people in the head numbers in the thousands. I've never really had trouble with taking too much damage though aside from being reckless or trying to stand my ground against Heavies to get 1 more shot off. Depends how hard things are on Nightmare.
