***Official Rift Planes of Telara Thread***

The amount of different options for specing your character is actually quite overwhelming. I'm looking at the talent calculator and trying to decide on 2 different builds for my Cleric, but it's hard to know where to start.

I had exactly this problem, but the best way to get around it is to focus down 1 tree and use the other trees to supplement that.

A lot of the first tier tree abilities are quite the same. For example i'm a paragod build, so most if not all of my skills i use are from the paragon tree, but i have points in other trees too.

Choose one thats going to be your main tree, say you wanted to dish out damage as a cleric you put most of your points in Inq or Shaman (at 50 you will aim to have between 32 and 51 points in), now pick something that compliments it well, doesnt have to be the abilitys it gives you could be the stat boosts, Some have options to give extra damage or improve crit chance, this one could have anywhere between 0 and 32 in by 50. Then look for a 0 point soul, something that gives you something useful at just 0 points or maybe 2-4 (for me its dominator as it gives me the skill to turn anything into a squirrel for 30 seconds)

It gets easy picking everything after a while :)

Found some Rift Benchmarks for anyone interested:

I think it would be safe to assume, even though this is a Nvidia "The Way It's Meant to be Played" game, if they added a 6970 to the benchmarks it would probally be better than the GTX 570.

Obviously the GTX 580 will still be king, but a 6950 with shader mod at 6970 clocks is the best value for money, especially if your wanting to play this game.

Pity they turned off the antialiasing for that, I just can't look at the game without supersampling turned on.

What's everyone's thought's on this game?

I'm really tempted to get it

I haven't played too much, got far too much on, but I think it's fantastic. I've yet to play a game which has gripped me as easily as this.

PvP has been fun I have found it a lit more skill based than what wow used to offer me. I've easily killed people who have 5 levels on me by playing my class and popping cd's. Not having to rely on gear is great as I want something to be able to play without having to dedicate my life to it to be competitive.

The rift/invasion thing is unreal for me, it may be the fact it is unique and new at the moment which makes it so fun but at the monent can't imagine myself being jaded with it.

As an example went sfk in the small guardian town in the north of the first zone. Was puttering round the house when I heard a racket coming fron the computer, thought someone might be ganking do I popped on rthe pc to see complete pandemonium :D there were these beasties charging through the town killing npc's left right and centre. Players were getting the stuffing kicked out of them and warnings were coming up on the screen about the town being about to fall. I got myself in a small group with 3 others and we were fighting to stay alive against waves of enemies and only just managing it then suddenly a mass raid came charging through the town :D not exageratting there was around 60-80 people going hurtling by kicking the toss out of the invaders and closing rifts left, right and centre. Our little group joined in and that was it. 45 minutes flew by as 3 raids as there was by then swept the zone clear. We eventually reached the last portal and some badass huge tree thing came stomping out and started murdering everyone. 3 raids on him, hellish amounts of deaths from the raids until he went down and the invasion ended. Everyone was going ballastic in the general char cheering and comparing rewards and congratulating the few people who came top of the performance charts. Absoloutly unreal experience that took up an hour and was even more amazing considering I wasn't even expecting it :D

as I say the novelty may well wear off but for me it has took the best aspects from various mmo's, polished them, improved them and put them all in one neat little package. The game isn't reveloutionary (you can see wow, lotro and war similarities) it just seems an ideal combination of them all.

To top it all off launch has been really smooth. I'm not sure how top level content is but lower level stuff is plentiful and well polished.

I would heartily recomend the game to anyone wanting a try.

That town thing you described sounds a lot like the invasions you used to get in UO. Sounds interesting, especially the pvp server which appeals to me, but I will wait for 2 or 3 months and see what the consensus is then and whether or not the open world pvp dies out at max level in favour of instance battlegrounds or something

Must admit to that being my main concern. If the game turns into a pve, town hugging bore fest I would be disapointed. I have been hearing that at the moment high level world pvp is active but don't know whether that will last.

I'm nor going to play massively often, still in the wow re-roll guild and I work too often to playtoo much but what i see/hear/do I will keep you updated as I know you're after a strong pvp game! :)

Yeah that's the problem, I mean WoW originally had very active high level world pvp, as did WAR , eventually they both ended up being quiet as people went into bgs instead. What we need is another Daoc, with the 3 faction system (better for balance) and incentives to pvp in the game world at max level, instead of mmos which keep insisting on 2 faction systems.

I'll keep my eye on things and might join in June or July if things are still positive

Daft thing is it would be relatively simple to implement. Not in the notch a job wintergrasp/tol barad wow way but have active quest hub zones where world pvp quests objectives are implemented alongside pve ones. On a pvp server this will make people do it.

Plus better pvp rewards (honor/marks) for world pvp over bg pvp would help this. Here's hoping but pvp is always shelved in pve favour :(

only reason I would recomend giving it a go now is that if lower zones are quiet the invasions would be a ballache as they would always sucres and kill questgiver npc's. They really are a great laugh.

No problem, I am happy to wait 3 months or so, if the invasion system doesn't work at that time then its a flaw in the system which they will address in some way.

I wish OcUK worked weekends, bought a time card but won't get it until tomorrow :( and then back to college all week :/
