BankGroupSwapAlt leave at [Auto], that is current state of play.

It may save you time on tweaking down timings by using The Stilt's DDR4 timings in OP of my OCN thread, section RAM info.

My kit of F4-3200C14D-16GTZ needed slight slacking of tRAS from 28 to 34, tRC 54 to 60, tFAW 36 to 39 and tRFC from 333 to 373, for his timings to pass repeat HCI Memtest 2x ~7hrs. Also sound for ~40hrs f@h /2x 5 loops IBT AVX custom 13312MB / Y-Cruncher.

What is the reason for this? Bankgroupswap for me reduces my latency in aida by a decent amount.

Yes i also had to set TRC to 60 as well. Got TRFC at 280 and appears stable, gave a nice bump to my read speeds in aida, for what that is worth. :p

I found BGS Alt lowered my L3 cache speeds in Aida too, so i keep that disabled.

What is this bank group swap, what does it do, and should I fiddle with it?

Is it a setting that it will take an age to test if it has made things unstable?

My findings are it will either boot or not. It wont change stability, I could be wrong of course but that what I experienced.

One you have the main timings stable (e.g 14-14-14-34) what are the main things to focus on to further improve performance? Does trying to lower the 34 make much difference? The more detailed timings? I read gupstergs post on the other forum and found the settings there which I translated to my BIOS but they were not stable and no idea where to start to try and sort, so assume starting from everything at auto is best?

My RAM is 3600c17 g skill, it's at 3333 which appears to be my boot limit so just wanted to tighten as much as I can.

Still get occasional boot loops on restart or cold boot but getting there... slowly... :)

DDR4 had Banks Groups introduced in it, link. I would hazard a guess that it disables swapping between them. In this post you can see some info from The Stilt. There is a new option in the latest C6H UEFI 1401 BankGroupSwapAlt, which I would hazard a guess at is some differing "version" of swapping data between banks? the post by The Stilt so as not evaluated we have no infor from Asus or him on its case use, benefit, etc.

IIRC you use 2 dimms per channel? if so you don't disable.

I don't have any issues swapping BGS on/off. BGSA yet to try.

tRAS, tRC, tFAW, tRFC I would play with to gain stability, they also have less effect with slacking than loosening the other timings part of The Stilt's setup.

This next portion is just general post to fellow members :) .

Same setup, W7 then W10C.

So AIDA64 does seem effected by OS used. The Stilt is saying it is not showing right info, not fully disclosed explanation. He does from what I'm aware feed info/work with authors of SW like HWiNFO, AIDA64, GPU-Z, so I reckon he would know the "crack".

I will test BankGroupSwapAlt [Disabled] and report back on how same profile benches in AIDA64 per OS.

I saw hwinfo had one whea error listed from hours of realbench testing.

Don't know whether to drop the cpu frequency a notch or up the llc to 1 from auto...

LLC1 will pretty much achieve nothing over auto in my experience. You might need to knock 50mhz off.

If error is L(x) Cache (which usually RB throw) the VCORE is issue.

So either you increase VCORE or drop MHz as said by gavinh87 and my opinion.

LLC 1 (on CH6 at least) does nothing (over default) IIRC. It basically starts at LLC2.
Though as already said, be careful as there are micro spikes off of load apparently.

OK peeps ignore the W10C AIDA64 bench in post 2366, as I had been on W7 for days and when fired up W10C an update was coming down :o . Gotta luv those forced updates :p .

Seems to me BankGroupSwapAlt is disabled on [Auto] for me. AIDA64 showed no discernible difference between BGSA Auto, Off and On. GSAT showed Auto has higher MB/s, ~matches Off and they both beat On. MLC again shows same as GSAT. Auto ~matches Off and both beat On.

So here is ZIP with fresh RAW data. We will see in the AIDA64 BGSA Auto a run where I have L3 Write of 90088MB/s, take that Intel :p .

My full settings in spoiler.

Yep :) .

Well, I bumped up the llc to 2, and leaving it at that.

Not even re-testing things. I have had enough of testing.

If it passed 3 hours of occt, 9 hours or so of tpu memtest, and only one whea error from 2 hours realbench on the current settings, bumping the llc should be enough to compensate for that one whea error. If not, I don't care.

I'll revisit if I experience issues in use.

It seems that if i want to use 4.050Ghz, i have to run 3200Mhz CL14 and have Geardown enabled. I'm also limited on what i can tighten on the seconds and thirds. At 4.025Ghz i can tune 3200Mhz tightly though and keep geardown disabled. This is using P State overclocking.

3333Mhz is borderline, can't quite get it stable enough to use reliably with these bios at 4.025/050Ghz.

What is netting you the better results? CPU or memory timings/speed?

I've not really tracked performance yet, but i expect there's not much difference so I'm currently aiming for 4.025G with tight timings @ CL14 3200Mhz. If i can get CL12 i will, not worried about running up to 1.5v on the memory if required.

Here's where I'm at so far, still got some of the lesser timings to tweak.

Use a bit of refclk/bclk overclocking, you should be able to get a little better.

Yes i think you are right, but I'd rather save a bit of power over that little extra performance.

For me i just need something tuned but 100% stable and I'm close to getting that with these settings. Just need to see what else i can eek out.

Once the memory is done i can work on lowering voltages, particularly CPU voltage which is current running at 1.5v.
