*** Official Ryzen Owners Thread ***

What overclock is likely on a ryzen 5 1400 with a Noctua NH-L9X65 SE-AM4 LOW PROFILE CPU COOLER. Whats a safe voltage and temp?
Cheers

Ryzen owners should really answer this but i don't think you should have any issues getting at least 3.7Ghz (+15%) 1.3v, temps; i'm not sure actually, with AMD i'm guessing 70c?

I have 1800X

Running 3800mhz
1.328v Load (1.25v plus offset in bios)

70oC prime small ffts 16cores LOAD

Does this look normal, i will try to reduce voltage slightly tomorrow.

installed new mobo and the cpu this evening. all working fine everything at stock settings still.

mobo is asus x370 pro still running on a bios from back in the summer. should my first task be update to latest bios, before i start messing with settings?

also want to check temps are ok before start messing. what should i look for here?

just finished stability testing

I am working back down the voltage from these settings, if i try 3900mhz it wants a fair bit more voltage

What cooler do you have? For reference, 4040MHz @ 1.375v I Hit 72c under load with a H110i.

I always ensure the BIOS is updated to the latest BETA and with Ryzen, I strongly suggest you do the same.

As for temperatures, use HWinfo Tctl/Tdie (Just T-Die if X CPU) or Ryzen master, they will give you the correct readout.

BIOS updated fine to new version.

As for RAM, well I set the XMP profile first, and it booted fine into Windows and seemed normal. I ran Realbench and it completed with a score of 131000. I don't know how that compares.

But then on opening Firefox, system freezes and had to reboot. Ive now lowered to 3066MHz whilst keeping the XMP profile otherwise the same and am about to retest.

Yes the 1800x is tempting even me.

price for price 8600k(around 254 quid) or a 1800x (265 quid)

The 1800x at this price point offers the best performance for the money i think.

Edit

The 1800x is selling like hot cakes got to wait for stock to come in...

Depends on what you use the CPU for, if you only do gaming then the 8600K will be a better choice, if you do some productivity then might as well save some money and get the 1700 instead of the 1800X. You get a pretty good stock cooler with the 1700 and the main difference between the two is ~100Mhz overclocking headroom.

Guys what do you think of this temperature? Its a lot hotter than my i5-6600k used to run under load. Also software doesn't seem to be reading memory clock correctly? I have it on 2133 standard SPD setting at the moment. There is no overclocking here, everything on auto in BIOS.

Edit - temperature has now climbed to 58 degC. Ive upped the fan curves a little and its stabilised there.

What cooler are you using? Under 60c is more than comfortable.

I don't know whats going on here but Im not happy really.

Firstly, this is just at idle - nothing is running except the monitoring programs.

1. All the four programs display different temps? Which is right?

2. Look at the monitoring in afterburner - why is the CPU sawtoothing like that at idle? Ryzen master shows the CPU jumping up in clock speed every second or so.

3. Temps are all over the place - not one of those readings is stable. Jumping around between 44 and 50 degrees.

4. 44 degrees is a bit high for an idling chip isn't it? Granted, if it is 44-50 at idle, then to be 52-58 under load is pretty reasonable but why is it so high at idle? My previous i5-6600k was 23 degC at idle.

A few mins later I get this with HWinfo running alone. It now says 29 degC against TDie, 49 against the one above and below in the other section 41!
