*** Official Ryzen Owners Thread ***

but in the first set of screens its showing 44 degC. the system was at idle both times.

For some reason the ryzen master app puts a small load on the CPU. It basically makes it run at max clock which increases idle temps.

I get the same issue as yourself with my 1600x

It isn't the most accurate app for idle temp analysis so don't worry too much with what the ryzen app says.

I don't know whats going on here but Im not happy really.

Firstly, this is just at idle - nothing is running except the monitoring programs.

1. All the four programs display different temps? Which is right?

2. Look at the monitoring in afterburner - why is the CPU sawtoothing like that at idle? Ryzen master shows the CPU jumping up in clock speed every second or so.

3. Temps are all over the place - not one of those readings is stable. Jumping around between 44 and 50 degrees.

4. 44 degrees is a bit high for an idling chip isn't it? Granted, if it is 44-50 at idle, then to be 52-58 under load is pretty reasonable but why is it so high at idle? My previous i5-6600k was 23 degC at idle.

*snip*

A few mins later I get this with HWinfo running alone. It now says 29 degC against TDie, 49 against the one above and below in the other section 41!

*snip*

1. Ryzen Master and Tdie from HWiNFO

2. I would largely ignore Afterburner. Ryzen master will show clock speeds changing due to the monitoring apps running that will use enough for it to be considered not-idle and dynamically adjust the clock speeds.

3. Temps do change up and down due to usage and with Ryzen I have noticed it fluctuate quickly under different loads. This is fine and normal.

4. It's not idling.

Bonus Point. You need to stop comparing your Ryzen 1700X to an i5-6600K like this, they're completely different CPUs and you cannot expect the same behaviours.

thanks all.

i use my cpu for mining when im not using the pc. so its running 24/7 at load. with this in mind, what optimisations can i look at to reduce clock/volts/temps without compromising too much performance?

also given this 24/7 use, i have one eye on cpu life too.

Elitist :p

BTW, what is "AM4 Advanced Boot Training" ? ASRock AB350 Pro 4.

It helps with locking in higher memory settings. You might notice it boots twice (possibly more) to lock in the memory with it on. If you dont like that and your memory speed works without it, turn it off.

Sometimes it changes the memory settings, not the speed i set but timings, i have only had it for a couple of days and i haven't yet started messing with it properly, i have set the memory to 2666Mhz, Vengeance LPX 3000Mhz CL15.
not great memory but all i could find for a price that weren't over £200, anyway yes it booted several times this morning, my overclock including the memory remains (3.9Ghz - 2666) its like its adjusting its self, experimenting with different settings to find the best possible configuration.

If that's what its doing i'll leave it, later i'm going to try for 3000Mhz and 4Ghz.

Whats the safe volts for Ryzen 24/7? this board also has no LLC and there is a fair bit of VDroop.

Bug, about god damn time!

Welcome, now clock to 4Ghz 3200Mhz CL14 fire and forget.

Thanks mate, 3200 CL14 is unlikely on Vengeance LPX 3000Mhz CL15, they are a bit crappy, but they were cheap, well, cheaper than most.

You'll have to give him some time, He's old ect, He's still a little confused with all the threads he now has :p

Haven't you got a door to build or something? #### off!!!! :p

Progress update, i was having issues just keeping 2666Mhz Ram stable, it was fine once booted into windows but often after 9 or so boot loop fails having to go back into the BIOS to re-save it, sometimes it would boot loop on a cold boot.

After updating to BIOS 4.60 (ASRock AB350 Pro4) its much much more stable, just setting Ram to 2800Mhz it booted right away, no boot looping or anything, it just works.

So this is with 3.9Ghz + 2800Mhz Ram, i'm not done yet, going to try for 2933Mhz and 4Ghz.

Best i could do:

Ryzen 1600
16GB Corsair Vengeance 3000 LPX
ASRock AB350 Pro 4

What you guys think? not bad eh?

Has the Ryzen/motherboard/bios ecosystem settled down?

Am thinking of chosing AMD over Intel for my next build and am wondering if the early teething troubles have been ironed out.

Haven't run an AMD chip since Barton core and the focus will be gaming with a bit of 3d modelling.

1700x or 1800x partnered with Crosshair 6 a good choice? Ideally 16gb ram as minimum. OC capability would be nice. (water cooled)

Wait till April and see what Ryzen refresh does, if you are mostly gaming then a 8700k is probably the best bet.

ASRock Taichi has been solid for me.
