*** Official September 7th Apple Event "Far Out" (18:00 BST) ***

Which ones?

It's not just on video tests, there's nothing out there that beats the Pro Max on battery life.
There was a Samsung and a Sony Xperia and i'm sure there's others but i guess it all depends how you're measuring "battery life".
As said, i'll wait for reviews as some of the reviews last year on the 13 Pro Max were quoting around 4/5 hours less than what Apple stated during endurance tests ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Either way, it's still impressive if you can do a full day of heavy use on any phone :)

Don't know whether to change it to the black or silver, I'm thinking rhe purple will be in high demand thus reducing the chance of release day delivery.

Looks like I'll be sticking with my 12 Mini for a time yet. Nothing compelling enough for me to switch. Will reconsider once they adopt USB-C. I travel a lot, so wireless charging is a poor alternative, as not only then do you have to carry an plug adapter but also the wireless base.

I which they would have made the UK/International version Sim only as that would force all providers to offer eSims which I generally find superior. I must have about 7 different SIM cards on me at the moment.

Did she say no physical SIM? I wonder if this will apply in the UK?

UK providers are pretty backwards. I asked 3 for an e-sim. there response was sorry we cancelled our e-sim program due to COVID. Lul wot? should have been my response back. Stop a fully digital product that requires no human contact or intervention for a physical product that has to be posted or collected in stores. It still hasn't returned.

No, but you’d have to find a local provider that supports eSIM I guess?

Good luck. Most providers won't do an eSIM for PAYG and as someone travelling through you obviously won't be buying a full contract.

AT&T in Mexico, and Orange (tourist tariff) in France are the only providers I've come across offering eSIMs on PAYG.

Yeah the text and chat from everywhere is what people were thinking, instead its just SOS incase you get lost on a mountain or some random area lmao

They might as well just installed a PLB of course watches with PLBs have existed for quite some years already.

2000 nit screen is pretty impressive

That's only peak though isn't it? So for about 15 seconds or whatever. My old LG phone that use for navigation has a high peak figure (for the time) 1,200 but it only lasts a short period before dimming back down.

I have a 14 pro max spigen case arriving tomorrow - should be interesting to get a jist of the size etc.

Went with this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spigen-Hybrid-MagFit-Compatible-iPhone/dp/B0B1PBBGNB/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=37O8Y7LFLFTR7&keywords=spigen+14+pro+max+carbon&qid=1662636057&sprefix=spigen+14+pro+max+carbon,aps,65&sr=8-1

I think the white ‘MagSafe’ magnets on the official clear cases look a bit bugly - carbon fibre looking slightly less like a giant power button :p

I am a big fan of Spigen cases, had them on both a OP5T and Pixel 5. Looking at either of these myself

You can pay monthly and cancel anytime. Think it’s £8.49pm

My phone and the plan is less than £8.49 per month, if you spilt it over 2 years.

Also when are Apple going to catch up with the real world and start using USB-C on their phones, they use it on everything else its just annoying. Wasn't it supposed to be this year?

It isn’t on their standard iPad.
Who says it’s “catch up”?
They offer wireless charging, that’s pretty modern.
As was mentioned quite always further back on this thread, I reckon Apple would go portless before they went USB-C.

Yes, I said they use in on their other devices if you read what I actually wrote.

Lots of people including Apple if they use it on all their other products, probably just want to clear out inventory of cables etc.

It's crap compared to cable though.

I can imagine that would be the type of thing they would do, and claim it to be brave, or courageous.

Meanwhile they'd forget all the people that want to charge their phones, while on a plane, or a train, or in and airport etc. Port less = stupid.

Probably add Car Play to that as well...

I use Android Auto all the time and I'm about to buy my first iPhone... If they didn't have the connector if be screwed.
Although now I need to buy lightning cables that will no doubt be ditched next year

I was hoping for USB C :)

I know but in general? If anything, lightning is probably a stronger connector so I'm not bothered by (the lack of) USB-C.

Again its more types of cables though, why not just have one type. I know some people aren't big on sustainability and standardisation, and Apple certainly aren't as it affects their bottom line, but for the good of the world, less cables = less waste.

I'll illustrate this as in order to use either of the phones in the car we have to have both types of cable not just one, so an extra cable was bought so we always have one of each in the car, instead of just one. Multiply that several million times and you can see the waste, and that is just one application.

I am not saying people can't be happy with or prefer the non-standard connect Apple offer, but its not better, nor is it more popular.

Each and every year! This one bugs me the most as their other product line has USB-C options. Still considering the Pro 14 to better integrate with my Macbook and iPad over my Android phone.

But if Apple switch to USB C now, it WILL be a waste of a cable, as you won’t be able to use it going forward.

I don’t think that Apple should switch from Lightning. It’s a much superior design compared to USB C, other than transfer speed (but who cares?).

I’ve decided against Apple Care.

Repair costs are £650 for a damaged iPhone, so long as you have it in hand, based on 13 pro max.

Apple care and replacement costs £200 for two years and then £80 for a replacement.

So if you want it for 2 years, you’re basically forking out £200 up front to potentially save £370.

I’ve never smashed my phone screen so I think using it more than once is probably unlikely.

It’s quite expensive really. Especially if you have phone insurance covering repair/theft etc with a credit card etc.
