wow thats awesome, gonna play withy that asap

I have very tall ceilings are 3m in height so i cant hear any height affects currently

So I've spent a bit of time playing with it.

I know the height speakers are used for bass outside of Atmos content so I did a test to see if the height volume adjustment would through my bass off outside of Atmos.

Luckily it seems to work, in my testing the Height channel sound level only affects sound that is in Atmos and doesn't affect the sound level of anything else that may come out of those two speakers.

and then I got to playing with the setting while listening to Atmos demo videos and oh wow the difference was night and day, this feature is a huge improvement, now I can actually hear sound from overhead

However I'm not sure what the correct setting to use is though. By default the height channel sound level is +0. If I say set to full +10 then the height channel effects over power all out sound when multiple sounds are played at once.

so my question is, how should height channels blend with the other channels? Should the height channel only be slightly heard over everything from else or should it be very clear or even overpower? What is Dolby's recommendation for how strong the height audio should be?

Found the answer

Dolby recommends all channels should have the same SPL in the main seating position

can be hard to configure it perfectly without a good test file but luckily I found one https://www.heimkino-atmos.de/.cm4a...olby-test-tones_5_1_2.mp4?_=15dddc34420&cdp=a

It's a Atmos 5.1.2 test file that plays isolated sounds through each channels and using this I was able to get each channel to the same volume level

my config is +5 height channel and -2 surround channel

If you have high ceilings I'd probably adjust even higher. I ended up playing around with it on multiple blu ray copies and I have standard height ceilings. I ended up finding the sweet spot for me was +6. Yes it is only for Dolby Atmos content so won't effect anything else. Also found the original blade runner was very good test for it. The early scenes with the rain and immediately after when the ship comes over head and lands are perfect for it.

As with all Sonos updates as well, I highly recommend retuning trueplay if you can. When they make a bigger change like this it's worth running it again.

Could someone confirm if the Beam can stream music independently of the tv/soundbar side of things? And also can it grouped with a Play 1 to play music? I’ve got a funny shaped room and already have a Play 1 so hoping they could be grouped together for music but not tv.

Thanks.

Yes. You don’t have to use it as a TV Speaker, it acts as a normal Sonos unit, too. So streaming, grouping etc.

Great find, I'll play around with this today.

As great as the trueplay is I hate waving my phone around the room. I'll make sure all the blinds are closed :p

I really need to pull my finger out and buy the rears. My partner doesn't want them but I feel if I just buy them and set them up, she wont complain too much. Or if she does I'll just turn the volume up and not listen! had to do the same with the sub. she didn't want it but now she loves it. We watched an episode of Falcon and Winter Soldier on my friends system who just has a beam and two of the ikea speakers and she's turned into a snob

Does anyone know of a stock notifier for Sonos? The Sub gen 3 is out of stock and I want to get it from them due to 15% discount plus the 100 day money back guarantee.

Pretty underwhelmed by the ROAM, its at a good price point but i was shocked when i plugged it in this morning from unboxing to find

"5V/1A (5W) power adapters don’t have enough power to charge Roam. These adapters are common and were usually included with older smartphone models. Most iPhones before the iPhone 11 shipped with a 5W power adapter."

Luckily i have wall socket USB port.

It's ideal for my requirements, as i planned to have two setup in the garden during summer months. I would say there is a lot cheaper equivalents to this product.
