******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Hope not, game is literally unplayable with a mechanical HDD.
Around 25% of people still use HDDs, however it's not clear if this is their only drive or a secondary storage drive used for documents etc.

I'd be shocked if anyone has built a gaming PC in the past 10 years and not used an SSD as the primary/gaming drive to be honest. There isn't really any excuse at this point.

How many attempts did this eventually take?

The shard i was on was deadlocked so it didn't work, it took CIG an hour to realise it or act on it at which point they locked that shard so i could log in to another one, after that it worked perfectly.
So first time on a working shard.

Saying that it does need work, the steaming in and out systems is quite severe so you get a lot of stuttering at each end of the tunnel, sometimes the sound and visual effects fail to stop when exiting the tunnel.

Other than that it seems to work well, as always transitioning between meshed servers is flawless, i have yet to do a test where moving between these meshed servers in a shard is anything other than perfect, its the most critical part of the tech and they seem to have that nailed down.

I'll say this about it, in a theatrical sense it is fun.

I can see the argument for "why fly through it, just make it a loading screed" like its an unnecessary complex thing for a sense of theatre, i think this misunderstands what is going on, Stanton and Pyro are on the same shared, the same player instance, flying the ship manually through the tunnel is not the reason for the complexity, players being in the same player instance no matter what system they are in is the reason for that complexity.

So given the complexity already exists why not make the most of it, they still didn't need to but i think its worth it.

It isn't just that though hey, a loading screen/cut scene could still work but...the part about loosing control in there, taking damage, having fuel for it, flying difficulty with different length of flight and when they add the transient jumps more technical flight requirement etc. Plus lets be honest seeing 5-6 ships going through all at once is damn sexy.

Right, exactly :)

Dear oh dear, CIG enforcing 56 hour crunch weeks, this after 13 YEARS of development, how is this even possible?

Looks to me like the money is running out fast.

A 56 hour week is not at all unusual in this industry for crunch sessions, which are also not unusual in the game development industry, this press narrative is a whole lot of hot air click bait crap.

PS: A 56 hour week in the real world is nothing, its a part time week. When i was young an 80 hour week of hard physical labour was normal.

56 hour crunch weeks after 13 years just shows you how badly mismanged the project has been.

56 hours in the real world isn't "nothing" "normal" or anything like that, neither is an 80 hour week, stop being ridiculous.

You really are a long way down the rabbit hole, if you believe things like that.

Its not in a themed office with barristers serving at an in office coffee bar.

Yeah, can't pay the devs, can pay the barristas. Whole thing stinks of CR's ego trip. That's why there's no game after 13 years, but there are the swankiest of offices etc scattered all over the globe. That's where your money has gone.

Such a pointless set of comments. They clearly aren't short of monies a s a company and are pretty financially stable at min.

In terms of working we are on Wednesday and I've just over 44hrs so far with Thursday and Friday to go yet this week.

Although 50+ hrs isn't great it isn't unheard of. I will likely finish omaround 60hrs this week for a 5 day week.

And in no way is that normal. 95% of people will never do 60 hours in a week.

95% of people aren't game developers trying to push a patch out in the run up to a major yearly event.

But don't let that get in the way of you stroking yourself over whatever 'gotcha' you think you have this week.

Shouldn't be in this mess after 13 years - that's the point...it shows gross mis-management. That's also why there's nothing but a tech demo to show after 13 years and well over $700M taken from gullible people to fund someone's vanity project and lavish lifestyle.

;)
