******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Downloading anything using the star citizen launcher slows me to a crawl, but a few GB car packs for other games don't.. ugh.

same here but i downloaded 28GB in just under an hour so its really using that connection. It does use P2P as well to improve speed and reduce load on their servers on days like today. If they didnt use P2P updating as well as their own servers they'd be absolutely crushed by the download request. Especially when they're so large.

What is REALLY annoying me is I cant scroll through the keybind menus. And given their default key binds are utterly and completely retarded this makes the daunting task of rebinding almost every single one of the 2 million key presses a huge chore. Also axis curves and deadzone controls are on a seperate page from the axis binding too, meaning I have to faff around between menu pages.

They need to get some people with experience designing interfaces that are usable by humans. They're really quite awful.

Keybinding config is low on the priorities list, we've been moaning about it since the start, it has actually improved believe it or not lol.

One of the reasons many backup their config files

Which Key is it to turn off the 50m/s Precision speed mode? i can't find it in the Keyboard layout. It takes me ages to get to a battle at 50m/s :p its all over by the time i get there :(

Ughh thats a little sad to hear lol. I have been fighting with a pre made config for my x55 which has been made by someone else and it is still a chore haha

They are doing a free weekend I believe, that's where the Gladius, Mustang and Aurora MR have come from. Although the free weekend only applies to AC and not 2.0.

Looking to get into this game, from a complete newbie standpoint... Rig is in the spec with upgrades coming at christmas (5820k, motherboard, 16gb RAM and new case) and would love to get this game and start playing. I dont have a HOTAS or anything, what would you lads recommend to me??
I love the idea behind space games, and Star Citizen really interests me (aswell as Elite Dangerous) and I appreciate the MASSIVE amount of work put into them.
Could anyone recommend a good starter setup for me? With everything yous think I will need including the game :p
What ships are good also?
Do I need to buy more expensive ships? Advantages or disadvantages?

Cheers lads!

1. It's not a game, yet. It's still very much in development, there's no persistent place to play as yet and likely won't be for 12 months + Your progress isn't saved, you can't lose your ship (just keeps getting insta replaced) and it's basically a selection of test areas.

2. It's no where near as well optimised at Elite Dangerous, you'll likely be able to run it fine eventually but even people with monster rigs are having issues at the moment due to the latest patching bringing a lot of new unoptimised content. I've still put about three times as much actual play time into Star Citizen as it is as compared to ED and I backed Ed in kickstarter. SC is just more challenging and varied, although I love EDs sound effects.
3. Keyboard/mouse work fine for Star Citizen it's meant to be controller agnostic, grab a joypad, stick, HOTAS, keyboard/mouse and off you go with what you want, or mix them up. There are arguably issues with it but KB/M is easily the best at the moment for ease of control.
4. Any ship you can buy at the moment you can earn in game, they sell ships to help fund the game. I'd strongly recommend grabbing the cheapest package you can and sticking with it for a while, dont' get sucked into the ships buying lark like many of us have :p

These are the current starter packs, there is not "best" out of the two. I do have a soft spot for the Aurora though, it's doors fascinate me.. and I do call mine the Space Bucket/Coffin.

Between the two arguably Aurora is slightly more sturdy, Alpha is slightly more nippy. The Alpha is technically considered move valuable due to being a newer ship and it's value reflects this on the upgrade page ($30 value for the alpha compared to the $25 Aurora MR).

You can see the upgrades here:

The Galdious is nice, more fire power than my Mustang Omega, the Aurora is a Flying Brick :p

I might get some upgraded ships now, something higher range, i keep looking at the 325A its only £12 if i trade in my Omega...... but because its a ship you can't buy i don't want to lose it, so do i just blow £60 on this game? ...... indecisions :o

325 is undergoing a facelift etc just now. You could get it as a loan ship using REC (used for getting loan gear and ships to try out) to make sure you like it.

Omega is a racer, increasingly rare one too as most people upgraded them lol

I didn't know about the loan thing, i'll make use of it.

If the Omega is becoming rare i might just hang on to it. :)
