******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Well I jumped on
had a massive faff with forgetting ALL the buttons
flew around
shot some fools
was pretty fun, more fun than I've had with it for a long time.

crashed a few times, got kicked off the server a couple of times, but fine for an alpha

So thats what you do to the Comm when they ask you to fix it :o

Nice little montage :)

PS: how do you do vertical take-off and landing?

Yeah you have to get out, EVA in the comm relay theres a console which needs to be turned back on.

I was able to take off fine, a nice smooth ascent. Been flying OK for past 5 minutes then pressed SOME key and it's all gone topsy turvy lol. May have to leave this till tomorrow.

Gonna give up with it tonight and sleep. HOTAS tomorrow. There's a crusader or something about 10,000km away.. I figured out the hyperjump at least!

You may have pressed capslock which puts the ship into decoupled mode which makes it much different to use.

I really hope they will nerf down the mouse flying, its much too easy now.
I enjoy flying my hotas more, but its such a disadvantage now.

given RSI are in development to produce an official SC HOTAS i'd assume they'll be making that sort of play a lot more user-friendly in the future. id does seem odd to have people banging on about immersion and realism then using a mouse as flight control, but there y'go.

Don't know, when in the ship on the pad i just press W, it scrapes along the pad off the end and its airborne, or spaceborne...

Maybe you have some setting going that's turned the movement key into some other short-cut?

i had that, had to quit the game. use R to ascend vertically, i learned that doing the flight training course, which is worth doing if you're new to flying or many many years away from last doing it - i last played WC Prophecy probably a decade ago and had about 1/4 of the buttons on my stick that my new HOTAS has :-/

Tried the Steam controller using this config earlier it was actually OK. Not sold on the idea yet though.

I still prefer HOTAS (CH pro throttle + T16000M) or Throttle/mouse over all. I find it hard to switch between them though so I'll need to make my mind up one way or the other, I can't see me getting the SC branded Saitek HOTAS at least at release. I'll wait until the reviews are out and the inevitable Saitek first production run issues have been ironed out before considering it. It does look good (saw it at Citcon UK) but I'd rather see how they intend to use all those buttons and functions. At release the SC HOTAS will have an insane amount of fanboy love so it'll be hard to get to the facts about the device.

I thought the SC HOTAS looked a bit ****,
I do love the whole immersion stuff, but I'm just **** with a HOTAS and not really into the dogfighting stuff.

I have my X52 for flying and my mouse for running around in a manner of:

throttle-keyboard-joy-mouse.

My gigabyte ghost mouse pad is big enough to put the joy on it and still have enough space for the mouse

I have the same but with an x55.

M+KB may be more accurate, but I MUCH prefer the hotas, a lot more immersive etc.

flying a spaceship with a mouse ? hilarious.

I use Keyboard and Mouse, haven't used a Pad/Stick for flying since the Original Playstation :o Don't think i can do it now....

Its like a race to get to it, always someone else going for it, i had a space fight with one guy at the entrance.... *Get off i was here first....* :D

I've just been messing around with my HOTAS (CH pro throttle + T16000M) so many nice options now in the config, the saturation on the throttle Z axis means I can configure the entire thing within the client without having to fire up the CH software and apply a profile which is damn handy :D

I do prefer flying with HOTAS, it's just more fun but have to confess I'm more accurate with a mouse on gimbals.. not really surprising though with the way it's currently configured.

2 days until live stream event.

I keep trying to jokingly tap up my mate at foundry 42 for info but he isn't budging :D

He was on ship weapons but now hes back on props. The last weapon in the Apocolypse arms lore post was the one he did (see below)

If you are in the comm relay when someone switch it on you get the mission as well.
