******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I'm still not really clear what this game will be when it's eventually released, whenever that will be. Is it basically Elite on acid?

You could liken it to Elite in that its a space sim but its way way way beyond Elite.

Its impossible to explain, just watch this, if not all of it from 2 Hours in to the end, and do watch it to the end or you wont get the full gist of it...

I'm really really looking forward to 3.0. Unfortunately i won't play until then because my internet is really bad at the moment, Takes me 22 hours to download every new patch because i can't get fiber optic in my area.

The sheer scale of the planets and other stuff they debut'd looked incredible. Especially the part where they were entering orbit going to the surface and the front of the Freelancer had the fire around the front or whatever the proper terminology is called.

I still don't think we'll see SQ42 EP1 this year, I'll be shocked truly if we do, seen as the amount of stuff they are implementing from now to the end of the year from 2.4 to 3.0 seems like quite a lot.

I don't regret my pledges at all. Been a backer since 2014 and attended citizencon! :)

It's a bit of a hybrid game imo.

It will be a procedurally generated sandbox mmo universe such as planets, bases, missions, ai.

On top of that though there will be handcrafted elements like a co-op game such as the main bases, main stations, main missions and main characters like Miles.

I mean it's really up to you how you play. You can follow all the single/co-op style missions for that high quality feel. You can so all the generic, filler missions like in most mmos. Or like Archeage was you don't have to do any of them and can roam around doing whatever you want or deal, trade, explore with real players only.

It's a really good way of doing things as you get the vast size and scale of procedurally generated content but the quality and realism of handcrafted content.

Another Stokie!

I think Citizencon will be all about SQ42 and I think we will get a release date. Is guess around March next year.

So I booted up the PTU for the first time today after getting the invite a few weeks back. Even on my lowly Radeon R9 270x at 1080p (low detail) it was playable and the framerate is certainly better than in the main release. I'm only hampered by the fact that the game is hosted via iSCSI off my storage array due to CIG not fixing the launching from remote shares leading to latency issues pulling data from the array... SSDs would fix that but so would using CIFS shares too.

downloaded as well myself to see where we are now as I had to remove it about a year ago to free up so SSD space. Now I've got another 1TB SSD I downloaded it again last night and had a pop, was on it till 5:30am. Absolutely looking incredible, had a great random take me out in his Constallation, went to power relays, salvaged some wrecks in asteroid belts, went to PvP areas - it was all so so impressive.

Crazy impressive demo at Gamescom there. Has me hyped even more for the game and I am already pretty hyped!

Up to a stupid amount in pledges, but to me it is worth it.

My Ships
- Dragonfly (Black)
- Reliant Sen
- Prospector
- Sabre
- Anvil Terrapin
- Caterpillar
- Carrack

The Terrapin just looked too good to say no to! I managed to melt my Carrack and my game package and then get the UEE explorer Pack and managed to save a lot of my credit which I used for the Terrapin.

Not going to lie I had my doubts that this game was making any progress; but that's purely from someone who is on the outside looking in (and being put off by the notion of it being nothing more than a huge pipe dream to suddenly become vapourware).
After seeing the gamescom stream it has definitely piqued my interest to take a punt when the v3.0 rolls out seeing as it seems to put in a lot of the aspects that it had touted (landing, FPS element etc.); might even make it my game to look at with VR as well. Seems like it's a game I could lost in quite easily.

Like many others, the UEE Explorer pack is too hard to pass up on. So I've melted down everything I had, Bought the rover thing, and the explorer pack and had a good few dollars left over.

Still going to wait a while longer before I do much with the game though.

Gamescom demo looked amazing, but didn't the framerate seem terrible quite often?

Can't imagine they'd demo on anything other than the best hardware either?
