******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Chris Roberts is on the stream and stated:

  • That ring system that we saw before entering the planet is the "flying lane" much like commercial airliners, deviating from this is not advised, and when over built up areas, deviating from the course will result in your ship being taken over by autopilot. This is to prevent people from trolling by flying into buildings.
  • The Stanton system is 40mins across in quantum travel time.
  • Episode 2 of Squadron 42 will take 2+ years to make after episode 1 is released.

Like many others, the UEE Explorer pack is too hard to pass up on. So I've melted down everything I had, Bought the rover thing, and the explorer pack and had a good few dollars left over.

Still going to wait a while longer before I do much with the game though.
Jesus some of these ship packs are insanely expensive.

Gamescom demo looked amazing, but didn't the framerate seem terrible quite often?

Can't imagine they'd demo on anything other than the best hardware either?

Framerate wont see any improvement until 3.0.

Also I cant imagine they will spend much time optimising yet until beta when 95% of the content is in the game.

If you bought the ships separately I'd imagine it would work out far more expensive so in that regards it is good value. Realistically its a **** tonne of money.

Doesn't the Carrack come with the Rover or is it a different one?

They are, but it was never really the intention, despite how well they take advantage of it all now.

When it was on kickstarter they did the same thing they all do:
$30 gets you a copy of the game with a basic ship
$60 is game + slightly better ship
$110/250/500/1000 etc

It was no different to everything else, depending on how much you wanted to contribute you got a slightly better 'thank you' in return.
When it raised far more than expected, when they realised they didnt need the KS as a proof of interest and they could raise the $22m they felt their basic vision needed, they stuck with crowdfunding and associating ships with their own 'thank you' value. They never went in thinking we can make $300 ships and people will lap it up, they were looking for $2m to prove to an investor space games werent dead and those buyers of the full game were out there.

When they started selling ships, they just stuck with an established value, so if they were selling the game and an Aurora for $30-40, the ship itself was considered $20-30, same with the rest. New ships were priced based on that economy.

Its ended up being fantastic for them, but its also meant some of the large ships have been expensive although that hasnt put off a lot of people. Some buy based on what they want, i've given what i can afford in the first few months of finding out about the game and continue to try and get the best ships from that amount - cos at least we can swap and change, were not locked into a purchase.

Yes, the Carrack has its own rover and scout ship, but it never hurts to have a spare.

You're right about the money, I invested more in the game than I would like to have done, but these things happen over time. Now, I just reshuffle my funds around to ensure I have what I need. I'm too old for twitchy fighters these days, but cruising around in a larger ship, that's my thing.

The Carrack definitely has its own rover, and some sort of parasite ship too iirc.
Cant remember if its was confirmed to be the Ursa rover or unknown when being asked.

With the military pack it made more sense IMO, a fleet of combat ships are going to be required and seen often enough in-game, however a pack full of exploration ships? How often are 2 likely to be used. The Military one (and i cant remember its contents exactly) you fly the Hornet, a mate is in a Gladiator, youve got an NPC crew in the Idris and you all go out and kick some butt.

Explorers - You and a mate fly out in a Carrack, nobody is tagging along in a 315, DUR, Terrapin, Aquila etc. What you might want is combat support, but that wouldnt be from an Aquilla etc.
Love all the ships in there, but i wouldnt buy them one by one. I'd buy variety (explorer, hauler, miner/salvage, combat) or support (Carrack, Sabre, Vanguard).

My goal is still Starfarer, Reclaimer, Orion and Gladius, but depending on how prices change that might end up being a Sabre. A mate will get the Carrack & Hull C giving us a nice mix of the 'end game' ships and plenty of smaller ships to collect along the way.

I agree I haven't noticed the money coming out as my $495 spending has been spread over the course of 3 years really so it's been nothing.

I havce spent plenty on MMOs over the years and the difference between this and them is that this doesn't really have an end goal, a target or level to reach so the pay2win aspect really isn't an issue.

Yes, all of that :D

I've spent far far more on a GAME than i'd ever do (im not even sure i've spent that much on games this side of the millennium!) but at the same time wish i could contribute more, because i feel like its money well spent. Its still a PC game anyone can pick up for $60 the day its released and be pretty much on a level footing, but the money is whats made this game so impressive, its bought the talent thats creating the game, and what we saw last night wouldnt have been possible otherwise.

Paul no doubt by the time it gets to Citizencon there will be another compliment of ships in the hangar replacing the UEE pack. The nice thing is though they're all there as a buy back option for later down the line so I see it worth while melting and buying new ships in case they don't come up for sale again.

For me I always wanted a Carrack just because of how well its equipped, it has medical bay, repair bay, drones, separate ship and a rover. No doubt a bit of cargo space too.

I do agree about having too many of the same. That said I can see both the Terrapin and Carrack playing different roles and the dragonfly is Star Wars all over racing between the canyons.

I will either buy the Super Hornet or Gladiator back from the buyback and then will earn the other in game. I also want a mining ship and i'll be happy with that collection.

Being a member of a guild will open up many possibilities and ship varieties.

There is an addiction to buying ships and I can see many people getting themselves into a mess over it.

That said if the game falls on its arse I will already have had a few years fun out of it. Reading up and following the latest news and gossip is as fun as playing it sometimes.

I'm not really fussed about the dog fighting in this game, I'm useless at it for a start.

What I cant wait to be doing is loading the Carrack up and then a couple of guild members and I setting off for distant space to travel and charter new areas for the guild. Reporting back every now and again with any news. Basically being adrift in space millions of light years away from anyone. I basically want to get lost.

All the while knowing other guild members are mining for materials, bounty hunting, racing or cargo hauling.

You can then even have some daft nights like landing on a random planet and marking out a race track between the canyons etc... and do a bit of dragonfly, rover racing for a laugh.

The Carrack was always something i was planning on getting, i wanted us to have a collection of Starfarer, Carrack, Reclaimer, Orion & Hull C, and with what we both already had it was only a small increase after melting some ships to have those 5 covered between us. I also felt it was an easier sell convincing him of the above plan if he had the Carrack, but he's pretty flexible to whatever im suggesting and i've always wanted what i thought worked best for our org to be able to do different things together.

Yeah, SC contribution came when i had money, couldnt have done more than the minimum otherwise, but while i wish i still had that money, i dont regret it and wish i could contribute more. Its obviously not a charity, but to me it feels like a good cause. Now all funds are needed for a high end GPU, and even if i had those funds today i'd still need to hold onto them to buy something current further on. I need to wait for say 2018's equivalent of a GTX 1080 rather than buying one asap cos i can. It'll take me about that long of picking up pennies to afford it too :D

I dont play the game much at all, i kinda dont want to either, i want to see & experience those landmark updates for myself and thats about it. I dont want to spend 3mo exploring all of Stanton when thats in, then spend 3mo exploring Nyx cos thats added, and by the time the game is in beta ive seen most of the universe and done it to death. Im pacing myself for the time being i suppose.
