******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I don't think they've finished with weapon/shield/armour balancing yet, still a long way to go but it'll be balanced for PU, not Arena commander as atpbx has said.

BTW if we get enough people on Friday at 9pm on the teamspeak server we'll just split into two and run through vanduul swarm coop, see who can get through it fastest :P

Or even try to make it through with silly ships like stock M50s if they're still on loan!

I'll be there. :)

For arena commander maybe, not in the PU.

With the unlimited combat space available and different speed options the larger fixed guns of Hotas and HOSAS users come into play as you can get in and get out as opposed to be being stuck in a confined fixed head to head with what is essentially a stationary turret.

You can destroy a Superhormet in one pass with a fixed S3 sabre just running repeaters before he knows what direction you are coming from.

Thats what im hoping for.

The other possibility is that in the future there may be gimbals which have limited locking capability, which sounds similar to what dlknight mentions for how Elite work. Im certain even fully automated lock & fire upgrades will be possible on gimbals & turrets (same thing really but w/e) but they'll come at a size loss as a result. If we can have something in-between, a gimbal with *at best* basic AI/electronic sensors built in so it can snap to a very narrow angle, like 5%, enough so that as long as your pretty close it'll do the last little bit, and didnt cost a weapon size, then i think they'd be viable for a HOTAS and not almost exclusive to mousers.
They'd be expensive and the added components inside are a further drain on your ship (cooling, power, CPU cycles for example) which means its balancing positives with negatives to deal with, rather than being better for no harm.

The end result of the above could be that the decision between using an auo-snapping gimbal means you need a small component slot to be a powerplant (as well as better cooling & CPU at the same sizes as standard) in order to operate them efficiently, whereas by not fitting that demanding gimbal you could add a small shield. So we're still at a disadvantage in the battlefield, as well as the financial expense, and also that snapping option is there for mouse users too, making it even easier for them to hold target. Its possible that might even make matters worse, if say 80% of shots were narrow misses, and end up being only 50% misses :D

Everyone also has the option of stripping gimbals and going fixed, but i dont see a way of nerfing mice to the point where its going to feel equal, they'll always have either the same options or slightly better. At least its not a case of P2W and a £200 HOTAS being better than KB+M so unless you fork out you're at a disadvantage, we all have the ability to be 'equal', we just sacrifice a little for authenticity and immersion.

I'm a little out of practice so i though i should get some in.

Warring, these ###### will gang up on you now and ram you from all directions, they literally go kamikaze on you and sustain 0 damage doing it.

Anyway.... not bad for a rusty old git :p

Very nice score mate! looking forward to my stick coming now have to spend a while getting it all set up for SC

I wouldnt mind trying it to see if i can knock $50 off a purchase. If it wont, then its got no use to me and someone else can still use it.

If it works i'ld prefer to give it to a new backer over an existing backer but if no one wants the 10% off then ill give you a shout :)

Anyone else find with the super hornet that the wings are permanently swept back so gimbals/weapons on the wings are useless? can't remember this happening last time I had one!

Wish i could say don't have a super hornet unfortunately really would love to have a go in one they look like so much fun :(regular hornet kicks butt!

So is this better than Elite Dangerous? I might join this weekend and wouldn't mind an invite if possible, from what I read I get credits and you get a recruitment point, which I have no idea if it's a fair deal?

Fix for super hornet discovered around wave 11 of vanduul swarm lol. press "n" and it lifts your landing gear and sweeps wings forward, if only I'd known that earlier I wouldn't have suicided to try to get them working :(

Anyway got to wave 18 again, still getting use to using a mouse, not sure I like it as much as stick !

Incidentally after moving Star Citizen to an M.2 drive I load from hangar to Vanduul swarm in 11 secs.

I dont think its unreasonable to say its not better than Elite at the moment, but where SC is heading, its not even in the same ballpark.

Theres just enough in SC at the moment to get a feel for what its capable of, being able to transition between on foot in space stations, space, and EVA in any order, and soon being able to fly down to planets will join that list, at the level of detail its all being done at etc.

But its not a 'game' yet, its parts of one, so theres no progression beyond earning temporary currency and criminal levels. Theres small missions, enough to give a really basic idea what a decent mission would be like (watch the Gamescom demonstration for a better idea for the future), but its not like you'll gain access to new missions, theres no ability to buy new ships or ship items (clothing, fps guns are there). So its still closer to a tech demo IMO, but i also think its an extremely impressive and capable example of a tech demo.

I dont think you'd be disappointed long term, but you might find it a little light on stuff to do if you're looking for a new game to play right away.

You dont need to buy anything to use the referral, just sign up for an account with one and it'll be remembered. They do free-fly weeks from time to time too, so anyone who's registered can give it a go with a few ships accessible and see first hand.

As for if its a fair deal, not really anything to barter about, both parties gain from it and so far this has been the only referral promotion type thing they've done and cant see them doing it differently in the future either. Im waiting on a 5th which unlocks a little buggy and fishtank :D Hoping to hit 10 one day, but 5 is the first nice item IMO.
