NP, ^^^^ :) someone on this forum is spamming SC Youtubes with promo codes, everytime i put a SC youtube link here it gets spammed....

I get exactly the same. But I think it's more likely someone filtering YouTube for most recently uploaded SC videos. Mine get spammed within minutes if I post on here or not :/.

Annoying but atleast youtube detects it as spam.

I've been thinking of picking this up lately now that its development seems to be moving along somewhat. I understand of course its not a ready game so I'm under no illusion on that front of what I would be getting.

Does anyone know when the next free fly weekend might be? If possible I'd like to see it first hand before going ahead and purchasing but if its a distance away before the next free fly then I will just go ahead and purchase now.

Usually a free fly at every major patch release so I'd expect 2.7 in a month or two. I'd strongly suggest at least waiting until that so you can test performance among other things. Whilst there has been progress it's an alpha so there are bugs and issues and whilst there are things to do, Racing/mini-PU/Arena commander/Star Marine there isn't a huge amount of content in the mini-pu apart from the fun you can have messing around with friends.

In all honesty at this stage I'd recommend people wait until 3.0, that is going to be the true litmus test and there will be significantly more content in the PU than what we currently have.

Hard to answer that Tombstone. I don't think there is any milestone dates or events coming up in the next few month's which is usually what Free Fly is tied to but it does not mean they wont have one. Depends on the Marketing department. Could tweet at them or something and see if you get a response.

If you do take the plunge Tombstone just be aware that its still very much a work in progress and that development in terms of patches for the Alpha build are slow to be released

There is no 2.7, 2.6.1 is currently in testing which is 2.6 polished + regional servers, partial 'Mega Map', Hornet F7C-M (Super Hornet) update, UI update and some new audio.

Shortly after that we might get 2.6.2, which may have other stuff.

There might be a Free Fly during GDC...

To cut it as short as I can. 2.6.1 is currently in PTU and should be on live servers in a few days.

The list of features that I can recall being planned to go in 2.6.2 were moved forward into 2.6.1 so i suspect 2.6.2 will cease to exist as it was. If this is the case then we will have an updated schedule report with the targeted release date for 3.0 (the next patch 2.7/8/9 don't exist we are going straight to 3.0)

I keep forgetting 2.7 was changed to 3.0. GDC is a good possibility if not 3.0 will have one more than likely.

Yeah I'm fine with the content as is, I've done many many alphas so I know that what I would be getting is very very limited. Its more about seeing how my system deals with it and how it performs and also getting my feet under the table earlier so to speak.

I can wait for a free fly weekend for that, no rush :)

As someone who recently tried it, I'd suggest waiting a while. In terms of performance, it's a mess and personally I don't think it's playable. So I'd advice against buying it.

Guys, some comments starting to pop up about the time taken and lack of content...

Please keep in mind if you buy in you're not buying the game, at least not in the traditional 'ready to play' or even Beta concept, you are pledging money toward the costs of making the game, in return for your money you get access to what ever content is usable, that may not necessarily be the final version of said content.

Games take years to make, the bigger and more complex they are the longer they take to make.
With that said those who have pledged have access to this as its being developed, normally you don't get access to a game, or even know of its existence until its about ready, this includes Beta.

This game has been in development proper for 4 years, for a game of this magnitude and complexity 4 years is not a long time at all.
Because of the way development for this game is funded 'By you and you and me' and our access to it as its being developed it will at this stage feel like its going on for a long time with little progress, but the most difficult and time consuming things to do are the stuff that needs to be done before you can turn it into to something that you can make a game from, we are coming to the end of that stage, to me it seems 3.0 is the first stage of actually building the game proper, the amount of work done in the back end to make that happen is phenomenal, easily years worth.

If you pledged you are directly involved with this game, you help make it happen, so just relax and watch your investment grow from nothing into something we can all take pride in.

:)

Well, it was late last night, I had a few beers and thought why the hell not, so I got it.

Must say that I loved the Area 18 station, so detailed, really felt like I was in Blade Runner or something.

Had a try at flying (without bothering to look at any controls or video guides lol) , which ended up pretty much with me going in a wild out of control spin until I got to grips with it , and knocked up a couple of videos. I put the graphics on very high and generally speaking the performance wasnt too bad, with patches of fps loss.

Hopefully more customisation options will come for the graphics settings, I personally dislike motion blur and depth of field in games and always disable them, so I found the motion blur quite annoying.

EDIT : Aww...do the youtube tags not work anymore?

Is that the PTU? normally system generated invite only, it must be with access to all those ships.

Yeah its PTU

Oh nice, just know that once 'Public TEST Universe' is finished you will lose access to the PTU and all those ships, after that its just Live and whatever ship you own, make the most of it....

A couple of pointers after watching that vid, after pressing B to bring up the Quantum travel map maneuver your ship to a desired destination and line it up until you get a ring round it, press F once you have and it will jump you there...
