******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Thanks guys.
Yeah well after going with the aurora squadron 42 package.... Then got a cutlass black.... Then a gladius... Then melted and swapped.... And realised I'd spent about £280....on a game!
I recently asked CIG for a refund as I had a hardware fault that I thought was going to cost me big time and would stop me playing any game for a while never mind SC.
Very understanding they gave me a refund on everything but I said I would still back the game as a minimum.

So it's back to aurora MR for now.
Hopefully I'll be back for 3.0....hopefully I won't get the bug to upgrade ships too much

Sensible thing to do tbh, good thing is if you decide to upgrade you can do it to a decent small ship for a $1 month and not even notice the money. I'm a long time subscriber and don't mind that as I feel I get my moneys worth (normally - been lazy recently) playing each month when I'd normally be paying a subscription for a MMORPG anyway.

Reliance on NPCs is what made me wary of having a Polaris, so it's now a 890J which allegedly can be flown by one person. I'm just not 100% sure how well these NPCs are going to work!

Then again I'm happier crewing other peoples ships at the moment than I am flying my own so maybe they'll gather dust in my hangar :p
I think an NPC performing some shooting functions in a turret might be ok, or some really basic set routines for a terminal but they will never match a real person.. I love the large ships but I have no need for them, especially given my timezone to other people!

Certainly getting use to not having twist faster than expected and I love the longer throw of the Combat stick even if it's got a definite detent when cross the center of an axis, oddly I'm getting use to that too and find it quite reassuring. All in all very good :)
I have the Fighterstick myself, which is just another 4-way instead of the thumb button on the left side.
I don't really have a physical detent, but the audible plastic 'clack' is noticable. Amazing that people are still using their original CH kit from the 1980s!
I might try the elastic band mod (because CH kit is that technologically advanced) where you beef up the spring resistance a touch with a band round each of the axis pivot thingies. Mainly just to see if I prefer it, although I'm pretty happy with this as is.
I tried the Thrustmaster Warthog and it was great for flight sims, but the lightweight CH just seems better for space ships.

And realised I'd spent about £280....on a game!
Oh... is that all......? :D
I know of one person in particular who bought at least one of every ship (including the slightly different coloured "variant" ones that cost $300 extra), hangar decoration, poster and anything else.... but then realised he had no-one to play with, so went round buying loads of high end ships for all his RL mates, even those who don't have computers. He's nuts!!!

I was a Kickstarter backer and also spent maybe a shade under £150 on ships and silly bits, but forgot I was also a Subscriber (capital B) from when it first kicked off... Spent another few hundred on that alone.
Unfortunately, since the initial backing, the game has started down design, graphic and game mechanic routes that aren't quite what I was hoping for, as well as raising a lot of doubt over whether it will finally come to fruition or if it'll be another Freelancer/WingCommanderTheAwesomeMovie....
I've paid my monies and taken my chances, so I'll see what it's like if it does come out, but rarely even look in on the PU thing nowadays.

Yeah it's an awesome looking game. Fortunately I haven't been a backer for that long.... 2 years of not much would have killed me. 3.0 looks like the kicker. Maybe will bring a lot more new backers.

Sandi Gardiner posted this on face book, anything unusual about it?

Edit FFS i don't understand facebook, how do i share this outside of facebook?

Looks like the updated Yela specifically by the bottom left. & you don't FB lock everything onto their platform so only way to share externally iirc is to have it uploaded elsewhere

EDIT : Oh no, i was wrong :) right click the video " show video url " then embed it using the same button for youtube :)

Right, i thought Yela looked different, it may well be the one we can land on, also, look at it again, it looks to me like its behind Crusader, the curvature looks like it should cover it up but doesn't, what means its huge...

Crusader looks like it sits between Yela and its asteroid belt... WTF?

Edit: no... i can see stars... it looks like a chunk of Yela is missing....

I can't see a chunk of yela missing. It does certainly look a lot bigger though. Will have to have a good look once i am home :) fancy some pirate swarm Saturday?

Brilliant episode from start to finish. This shows exactly why they should pretty much be given a free pass on 'delays', yeah its annoying and there has to be a point where they release it, but this is set to be a masterpiece. They need to be given time to pretty much perfect these things, to find the right solutions for elements like this which are deal-breakers for immersion. Most of the UI/Interaction tech shown is still fairly prototype but theres sufficient demonstration of how it would look and integrate into the game to understand it becoming much more fluid and instinctive.

Reclaimer looks huge and every bit as beautiful as ever. I already know who's going in the grinder first :D The Prospector looks good too, couldnt quite tell if there were Hull C interior in there (the kitchen looked similar to the Starfarers - except it looked like it had textures!! that whole 4th floor feels untextured to me.) because it surely seemed too big to fit in the Prospectors small internal space.

Tons of other things, mostly snippets, but absolutely packed full. Brilliant.

Yeah, another good ATV....

Good to see all this stuff coming together, and while i agree with you that delays are worth it to result a masterpiece i do want to get on and actually play something substantial Star Citizen before i get too old to see my screen. :p

Am i going in the grinder? :O
Or is it reserved for Derek Smart?

Lol, no. You're most welcome if you wish really to, as is Derek Shart, but first honours go to a mate who doesnt post in here.

Yeah, I've said it a few times, but i always look at the status of the game and say its about 2 years away, and ive been saying that since Feb 2014, and even knowing that i'd still say it looks like its 2yrs away! :D
Sadly, lately ive been thinking it really could still be more like 3 & 5yrs away, for a late-alpha/early beta stage & a 1.0/gold version. We're 5 months into 2017, and we have knowledge of 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 & 4.0 releases which ends with the addition jump-points, and we're at best 2 months away from that 3.0 release. Thats 1 of 4 updates where the last isnt exactly '100 systems complete with planets, moons, detailed landing zones' etc etc. Its just first implementation of system to system. Yet we cant even get the first part nailed down.

Im hoping that its not so much delays, feature creep, unable to forecast & schedule etc, and that its probably them being critical of the current state of the internal 3.0 build. Using todays demonstration of the new UI/interaction, its quite possible 3.0 was going to go out with the v2.0-3.0 version and they simply couldnt make it function how it needed to be, so an early version of v4.0 is being brought forward rather than wasting time fixing something they knew had an expiry date.

Whats good to see is that even though its not really essential, progress on the Reclaimer seems pretty far along, the Prospector seems close, so there are already elements of 3.1 being brought forward to 3.0, the same could happen with 3.1 features where the original bulletpoints end up being somewhat mixed up. So everything else is still moving, and because we have dev's who do stuff like AtV we can at least see what they're working on and why we shouldnt panic.

I remember that ^^^^^ :D

I've just decided i hate ShadowPlay...

I'm making a video, i have spent ages getting the right shots....
First Shodowplay decided it didn't like me recording on and off every 30 seconds or so, so it crashes.....
When it does decide it will work for a while it thinks "i don't like the IQ and res i'm he is using" 130Mb/s and 1440P so it ignores that and records at 640P instead, everything seems to be working fine, spend an hour working to get the right shot, eventually you got it... you come out the game and...... ShadowPlay recorded it in supper low res and bit rate... FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

like this...

I worked really hard to perfect that shot.... take after take after..... nVidia let me down.

Don't anyone pinch my idea ^^^^ :p

As much as I have problems with OBS I'm sticking with it for now, Shadowplay have been promising control over audio channels etc for years but in the meantime keep ******** about with the interface and options instead.
