******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

They'll get a lot of grief for releasing it like that, welcome to alpha testing though :-/

More interested in the instancing side, are they looking at new tech for more players in an instance? Not had a chance to keep up to date this week!

So are many of the more expensive ships to be fair, they're sole focus is on the new ones. You can bet if the Sabre didn't work in Crusader they'd fix it in a heartbeat.

They should have delayed the patch until after the basics were fixed, if people can't test the ships then they can't really do anything in the mini PU at all so feedback falls away.

I'll be honest I don't think the problem is the weakness of some ships - more the OOT strength of others, like the SH which share a hull with the stock hornet so why would it be so much stronger?

The Glaive is mean to be a "melee" fighter like the Scythe so I can see why they'd have strong hulls but we don't have anything like that in lore for the human craft.

300 series is still one of my favourites but it needs a bit of tweaking.

The FC-7 doesnt share a hull with with the FC7-M

It also doesnt have the same armour equipped, in fact, it doesnt have any armour equipped.

The problem people have with this is they think every ship should be viable against every ship.
And they arent, they are not ever going to be either.

A $50 starting ship, its the equivalent of the Mk3 viper in ED, a $165 ship, its the equivalent of the Fer-de-lance

They cant compete against each other, they will never compete against each other.
Everybody will get their chance to have their own SH, or Sabre or whatever, when the game launches and these silly arguments about the Gladius not being able to solo a Constellation or whatver will vanish, because nobody will be flying them, they will all be the flying the better ships, that they have earned.

SH's not got magic beans in it's hull that accounts for the additional strength, baring in mind it's a weapons platform, the additional survivability should come from guns, gear and optional second crew member. This is partly what's annoyed some players about the magic buff it has. SH is the F7C-M, the standard is the F7C... they share most of the same components and most of the same hull with the exception of the cockpit, the turret can be fitted later to an F7C which would make it a single seater "super hornet" in my ways, identical? no, but pretty damn close. The only gear advantage outside weapons the SH has is power plant size, but again neither of them are at their maximum on this.

Ultimately though armor/shields etc aren't in and working yet, it being alpha it's perhaps far too early to shout about balance and we should really be looking more at bugs I guess.

Ship Stats

With over 70 ships currently listed on the site, the “Ship Stats” page needs a redesign with revamped readability and usability. We have gone back to the drawing board, creating a new user interface with additional search filters, allowing you to quickly find and compare the ships that interest you, as well as give better insight into the ship production pipeline. We are currently in the design phase, so we’ll post a screenshot in an upcoming report.

At least we'll have an idea of where we sit with various ships, only one I'm attached to is my Glaive and that's only because I didn't think I'd ever manage to complete VS.. which is now a routine thing lol Strange how fixing controllers helps!

Latest patch is crashing VS for me now :-/ takes 15 mins, no memory leak etc just completely freezes whilst windows etc is fine. Just the Star Citizen process.

Latest patch still causing me problems, took a few attempts to get to wave 15 without the client freezing then it froze about 2 mins after Reaper got shot by his own team lol:

Im guessing your from the camp that has spent a load of money on SC and won't hear a bad word said about it , of which there are many on here.

Your fellow oc'ers deserve an honest opinion on sc.

More like here as to how the games really going

You probably get a more hostile response in here as you tend to pop up with negative comments during people discussing something they're keen on, then accuse them of being mindless fan boys when they don't agree with you ;)

I've been saying for a while that the patches we've been getting are highly polished and tested in-house, this one seems to have been pushed out without that sanity-check they ordinarily do and the backlash has been pretty spectacular.

The problem is that these polished updates now have the community expecting continuity of access to what they had before, suddenly having ships inaccessible that have been there for use for 1 year + is a big deal and to be honest CIG only have themselves to blame for setting the bar far too high on alpha phase patches.

Thing is, encountering the problems they have at this phase is better than running into them later but arguably we should already be past this point in the development life cycle, they should be able to add in ships without a ton of tweaking, they should be able to ensure existing ships don't have to be temporarily removed/disabled and that's probably the more worrying part for me personally - with the introduction of some new elements, old ones have gone to hell. The first sight was a couple of patches ago when the flight training module became pretty useless shortly after it had been added.

Still it's all something that can be fixed in another patch, part of me hopes they stay focused on getting the more important engine based stuff sorted first THEN come back to the ships though, however much that annoys the community.

The SH has armour fitted in its armour slot.
The FC7 doesn't.

Although there is no armour component in the game yet. all ships that have armour have a % damage reduction and higher HP in place to simulate the effects against other variants of the ship.

I dont why you are arguing this when its right there in the Xml.

Armor slot being used on the SH doesn't mean it can't share the same hull with another ship, it's just additional plating or a different material and the XML will be altered hugely to reflect the changes as we move on through development. As I said before we really shouldn't be focused on balance of ship v ship just now but more interested in physics and how things actually work such as landing, docking etc. Ship balance is something CIG should keep in mind but we need the basics to work and certainly in the latest patch that's yet again the area they're having problems with.

^^ Yeah totally but they also have to then always have that in place. So if my Glaive isn't available I'm given a loaner (whatever that is) so it's not just sub $100 ships, every ship should have a loaner attached and they should at al patches ensure people always have a loaner that's working as an absolute minimum as without that people cannot help with the alpha and can't submit anything.

At no point should people be left without a ship even in the hangar imho even if it's just a loaner to look at and sit in.

So people who spent more money on better ships are getting priority , if that is true it's disgusting.

Clutching at straws a bit there, most expensive ships haven't even been made, the newer ships work, older ones don't regardless of price. It's a muddle but ultimately only one patch during alpha.

I'll pass, been working on another vid and SC is too unstable for me. Taken probably 12 hours + just to get a decent run though VS without it locking up. I mean the client completely freezes, no memory leak, no temp issues and windows etc still fine but the client just stops.

Plus I'm single parent tonight which usually means AFK most of the time lol

Coil whine is hardware based, you should be able to get it in any other taxing game/benchmark that pushes hardware hard. I haven't had it with SC but then again I haven't had it with any other game either :)

I did a review of the 325A this week and it's pretty damn good, was pre-latest patch though so don't know if it's got worse/better since.

Really enjoyed flying it though, was like the Glaive but more controllable.

It was 2.2.1 I'm sure was Monday night so whatever patch we were on then lol. I thought it was pretty ace tbh! Never found waves 10/11 so damn easy before :) Things only got nasty post wave 14 and only usually as I'd crash!

Did spent far longer than usual testing that ship though due to the client stability problems, must have played waves 1-8 about 10 times.

Scheduled for a fortnight from now lol might pop it on later when I can get at my pc

Checked on phone looks like I have the right version in video and wrong on description. It's actually.. 2.1.2!
