******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Lol I've read similar stories. That's fine it is an alpha after all. Some good advice though. I'm planning to just familiarise myself with the basics and not put too much in in until it hits retail.

Can the ships be flown with a joystick? I've never really liked flying things with a keyboard, always seems wrong :)

First free game play I got stuck in a lift after 15 minutes or so wandering around. Second time I got stuck in the train it wouldnt let me through an open door so ended up going round and round and round. Think my character must still be on that train. 3rd time lucky might actually go straight to flying !

What's the news on VR?

Available in 2035 I believe.

yeah you can use hotas or hosas for flying and whatever you end up using I would MASSIVELY recommend game glass running on a tablet. Just the free tier suffices.

I had to look Game Glass up, very cool. If all this comes to fruition it should be fantastic. Until then I'll assume it's a nice tech demo :)

Yeah it works very well and significantly reduces the number of keybinds or shortcuts you need to try and remember, I consider it almost a must have at this point.

My ultimate plan when I play the game a bit more is to have a couple of tablets with different pages set up on my sim rig.

And a laptop open for trade routes, or is that just me!?

I still having to use keyboard to use some controls of the ship. There's not enough buttons on a hotas setup

After more watching and reading around I came across the Origin 890 Jump. Are people really buying this for $950? It makes the price of PC hardware seem quite reasonable!

And some much more!

The theory cloud imperium would have you go with is that it’s not so much buying the ship, but rather making a pledge towards the development of the game (that happens to come with the reward of the ship...).

Not sure I believe that of course and it’s largely a matter of perspective. I’m sure for some, especially some of the bigger whales, it is genuinely a case of wanting the game they have been dreaming of and doing what they can to make it a reality. Some people really just have a lot of disposable cash!

I myself have sunk a fair few dollaroos into this game over the many years I’ve been following it (which thankfully despite the amount spent makes it cheaper than most subscriptions would have worked out at). I’ve put that money in mostly because it’s a really ambitious game that I would love to see succeed and I honestly do enjoy popping in and out and watching the game progress. Would I have “pledged” all that money without the rewards of the individual ships? Probably not... so for me really it’s buying ships isn’t it. Semantics!

Completely agree and as you say there are some people with a lot of disposable income. I do however suspect there's a lot that just credit card it because they want it but can't really afford it. Most wealthy people I've known don't play games, they're busy out on the real super yachts ;)

I can get behind contributing to the development, especially for a game that couldn't exist otherwise. My contribution might be a little more modest though :)

I bit the bullet and have had a little play, quite a learning curve! Took me a while just to find my ship. Nearly crashed and not out of the hanger yet :D Have to keep looking up the controls, could be a while before I'm up to speed!

Right, so SIX YEARS LATE and it has apparently been the focus of development over the last few years over SC, and this is the best they can come up with?

:D

What happened to the roadmap for the roadmap, or will that be SIX YEARS late and then "done when its done"?

Cult reaction: "This is fine..."
Roadmap coming in the next month or so
