******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I love the Avenger cockpit, visibility is almost as good as the Aurora. Must admit I was surprised when I went to get in mine the first time and found it had a bed in a small room behind the cockpit, really didn't expect that!

I have a Gladiator, think it's one of the most under rated ships tbh. Love it's styling :)

You are right though every poll I've seen shows only a tiny percentage of people have one. PAGAN have at least 1 ship of every kind and we've only got 2 of them, compared with 12 Constellations confirmed by members!

Once you have the Arena Commander pass you should be able to put you helmet on and jump in your Aurora, then it'll activate Arena Commander and you can fly.

They are rolling out multiplayer just now, it's up to citizen number 50,000. Not much when there's 10x that pledged but they're increasing the number fairly rapidly. :)

Glad to hear it's getting sorted soon Curunen :)

In other news a new patch is out:

It's barely in alpha testing now craptakular, I mean the latest patch had some handy bugs like landing gear that deploys about 2m off the side of your ship etc lol

The motion capture is still being done from what I recall, always thought he moved like he had a "issues" down below :D

I'm fine with the way it looks, lots of people are saying it's like bladerunner etc but what they keep forgetting is this is ONE world, they all look entirely different.

You'll be able to get it in-game anyway remember, I'll only have one as my primary pledge was the Cutlass.

I think it's worth waiting though they are giving the deluxe hangar an overhaul and I'd be surprised if the others didn't get major improvements too. The Asteroid hangar was really just the first using the new compartmentalisation feature they had developed, the others will be adapted and improved in time.

Paul I think anyone who's managed a large project or department will see many of the early discussions in the videos and read between the lines that there was very little oversight on several key features of the game.

The fact ships were done and have since been redone as they weren't big enough for their own avatar to move in freely is just the first of those, probably the most glaring error between departments. The height of the avatar was known very early on so how come they made several mistakes with ship models? That's a management issue which they've well and truly sorted out now.

It's a learning process though, they have a lot of new staff and have recruited constantly over the past 24 months. If they didn't have it right before I do think it's on track now which is why we're seeing a lot more art work coming out than previously and it's increasingly top notch and what we then see in-engine.

Such a very poor posting attitude, it seems clear to me that reasonable converse with you is not possible. You should try to accept (and work on not coming across as rude and obnoxious) that there will always be people with an opinion that differs to yours.

@Halfmad, the redesigns and example I gave with regards to the Idris are exactly what I refer to. However, it seems that anything negative (and imho just stating what has happened so far in the dev cycle) will simply be jumped upon by 'fans'.

I agree with pretty much everything you wrote mate. The game could have been better managed but it has exceeded everyone's expectations for funding and scope now :-)

Way I see it is people have backed SC because they want it to succeed and want a good Chris Robert's game. My opinion they cocked up a fair bit to start with, have learnt a lot since and have done a pretty fine job of sorting things out of late.

I see no reason to get personal about it though, we all agree on some things and disagree on others, fair enough. I'm all for enthusiasm for this game though, rather than knocking it.

It'll likely be out as a cross-chassis upgrade in the future, since all ships bar the ultra rare ones (Scythe and Idris) will be (confirmed yesterday here)

Personally I take anything Ben says with a pinch of salt, I'll let others get it, wait until I've heard how it flies in AC, which is likely a long way off then decide if I should upgrade my Aurora to one or not :)

physical goods are sent close to release, dogtags etc are all sold as individual items so sent fairly soon. I got my Drake hoodie ($10 delivered!) yesterday it's actually pretty damn nice :)

Didn't bother with the tags this time all 2500 sold out in about 2 hours.

$48 Million Stretch goal reached - Retaliator Commercial

$49 Million Stretch goal added - Alien Languages:

We will work with real-world linguists to create distinctive and realistic alien languages for Star Citizen’s three biggest alien races, the Vanduul, the Xi’An and the Banu. No universal translators, no garbled animal noises: Star Citizen’s aliens will be speaking their own authentic languages!

Personally I think it's a pretty cool idea, however perhaps a little late in the day to add it? I guess it's something that could be added to the game retrospectively.

Apologies if been answered before but have a few questions!

Is this "ships insurance" stuff so if you fly out the hangar in your new shiny shiny ship and fly straight into a rock you get a new one straight away?
Is this CIGs method of getting what is effectively a monthly subscription?

Insurance is paid with in-game money, there is a subscription for Star Citizen but it's optional and as yet nobody knows what subscribers will get. It's likely to be a token amount of in-game money and cosmetic items only.

Insurance costs are meant to be very low and only used up when playing, so if you dont' log in for a couple of months it won't be used up.

In the PU when out of your ship in 1st/3rd person can you go to areas other players are in? Even take part in BF style fights? Or are you confined to an instance of a area so it doesn't become a massive free for all?

3rd person mode is likely to be limited, it's currently in Arena Commander but will almost certainly be nerfed/reduced in-game as CIG want you to "Be the pilot, not the ship".

PU is the entire universe, you can do what you want. It's still fairly aspirational but the idea if you could disable someones ship rather than destroy it, dock your ship and enter into FPS style game attacking the player on their own ship, or perhaps even dying and losing yours (insurance claim time..)

Instances are heavily used, likely to be 50-70 players at most but there's never been any mention of limiting who can enter/leave them, they're live instances but it's a big world, there's not guarantee you'll see another player - but remember players only make up 10% of the universe population, the rest are NPCs.

Does anyone know if the hangars will also be instanced? Thinking from the pov of griefing etc. For instance could someone sit outside my hangar in their massive warship and blow my ship to pieces before I knew what had happened. Can the hangar itself be targeted if I was a pirate or something in one of those asteroid hangars. Or will it be like in WoW with designated safe zones with non-pvp. Or pvp only happens if I fire on them as i fly out?

Hangars are instanced but last I heard only you can enter you own - this is something I suspect they'll change though so we can visit other players hangars, but I'm not convinced they'll ever allow plundering of other players hangars but you never know. I'm guessing you'd first have to find the hangar, which when it comes to asteroid ones may be very difficult :)

Personally I've got Elite Dangerous standard beta started at the end of this month to keep me busy whilst I wait on Star Citizen, both games look epic. :D
