******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Elite: Dangerous flight model is fun, but so is Arena Commander (Star Citizen) to be fair, it just takes a bit of getting use to and it's not IMHO as immediately accessable as EDs.

Very different games though, as a backer of both I don't see it as a ED v SC, more of an ED and SC situation, I want both to succeed as it's a genre which has room for several games successful.

As much as I enjoy playing Elite so far it's a very restrictive game and adding in more "systems" which are essentially just single, copied stations doesn't really count at content IMO.

They need to add more to do, it'll come but it won't be anything like Star Citizen although if I'm honest I'd love it to challenge SC head on.

We'll have new ships post-release too remember and the stock equipment that comes will likely be trash within 12 months as with most games.

We've got a completionist in the org who's got every ship, two of some of them. Way he sees it he's got the cash, wants the game to be a success and likes collecting things!

Yeah, thats something CR has discussed, part of the solution to prevent people from exploiting the fact that they dont have to pay premiums and will just expect a replacement to pop up.

Part of me thinks if theres sufficient proof to suggest people are exploiting it, then it invalidates their contract with the insurance companies. But i can imagine the uproar if people were told lifetime could be taken away from them. Unjustified uproar, on par with the forums yesterday after seeing non-subscribers dare be allowed to ask some questions, new & interesting questions at that, completely ruining their run of asking the same 15-20 questions they keep asking in a slightly different way.
But apparently that was enough for some to demand a refund.:D

Lifetime insurance didn't cover everything and can be removed, I'm sure that's been said a few times. Only fair too, all but one of my ships had LTI and it's a huge worry for me balance wise if it can misused. I want the loss of a ship to be a huge deal for players, unlike elite dangerous where its a minor inconvenience.

LTI:
Replaces your ship hull in the event of destruction or theft.
Hull is replaced with an identical model in equivalent condition.
Effective indefinitely with no additional in-game fee.
Lifetime insurance does not exist for ship modifications or cargo
* Insurance claims may be denied in cases of proven fraud.

Also:
Can I use my insurance as an excuse to simply ram other ships to death knowing I will get my ship back?
You can, but this will be a very bad idea as it is inconvenient and time consuming in getting your replacement ship ready to go again. Additionally there will be an increasing delay in replacing your ship every time you make a claim within a certain period of time.

Missed out parts about invalidating insurance under certain conditions including LTI potentially. It's been mentioned a couple of times as personally I don't they've figured out how to make LTI work

Example I can remember is taking your ship into pirate territory, insurance wouldn't necessarily cover you.

Ah yes, as in your insurance only being valid in certain security level zones? Or am I getting mixed up with something else... lol

Yeah will be a balancing act to get LTI valuable enough to appease the many ships brought to get it, versus not making it overpowered against stnd hull insurance...

Halfmad, you the main contact to talk to about Pagan?

Yeah either PM me via Enjin on the SC site (www.pagan-sc.com) or on the RSI site if you'd rather, I'm Raumarik on both:

There is no difference between LTI, hull insurance purchased in game or the free time limited insurance so no balancing between them is needed.

Hull insurance works anywhere. It's cargo and upgrade insurance which will only be be valid in certain areas of space.

LTI is voided if they suspect insurance fraud, that's just the start of it though. I'd be surprised if it wasn't altered later so the ship was insured but there were hidden costs on top somehow i.e. to speed up replacement etc.

Yes it's the same as SHI, but since they've stated several times it's all subject to change I think we can assume it will, a lot. I'm fine with it being watered down if it helps balance the game.

Right now you get a "free" ship as a thank you for backing the game, at release you'll get a loaner ship following Squadron 42, or if you jump directly into the public universe but you won't own it.*

That to me is a reason to stop sitting on the fence and grab an Aurora imho, I was on the fence with both SC and ED a year ago, haven't regretted backing either.

*From slightly addled memory.

I don't see what's confusing tbh, however from what they've said in interviews you'll always have access to travel, but not necessarily to a ship. If you blow up your last ship and you'll need to wait on it being replaced, if it's insured, otherwise you're stuffed. Time to earn a new ship by crewing someone else's or borrow money. They haven't said exactly how you'd earn by crewing ships yet though.

Have you plugged any other devices in recently? leave the FLY5 in and reboot with all other USB stuff disconnected, then replug them after logging into windows. Worked for me, although that was months ago, not been near Arena Commander for a while!

I'm not really into AnythingFPS vids but this one is pretty good. Comparison of the 2013 Hornet V 2014 version, quite a change in detailing.

Well that sucks... I was hoping to map the Nostromo to stand in for a HOTAS throttle until I have the cash for an X55 or summat!!

Well, that's one issue understood then, if not resolved.
Now I just have to figure out why the multiplayer games keep going full-retard on me halfway through the matches...
Usually after a respawn, the view suddenly starts spinning wildly, as if I'm throwing the mouse around on max DPI or something. All controls still work, guns fire, thruster ignites and joystick moves the ship, but my view makes me look like I'm having a massive fit while spinning in one of those astronaut's 3-axis centrifuge chairs!

Not sure if it's my kit or the game yet...

You can do this in Elite: Dangerous but until configurable controls are in SC you'll struggle. I had my Nostromo mapped and it worked well with elite, I just couldn't get use to not having a proper throttle so ended up with a CH Pro.
