*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

I'd be very surprised if it didn't insist on installing Origin on your system anyway, and use it for updating.

One of the people from bioware already said that the game will have origin on the disc but you won't have to install it and won't need to log into it to play the game, you'll patch from bioware's servers etc.

Really? I'm a bit surprised at that. If I wanted to get Origin onto a few million desktops, it seems the ideal way to do it.

Maybe they're worried people will be mad enough at the actual game, without adding a forced origin install into the mix :D

Just signed up, can't wait for this game, currently reading what I can about it.

Not entirely liking the actual combat, it's very WoW like, I mean you attack so many times, they attack, you attack and they die. I thought it would be more like a FPS not a turn based attack.

Actually, I think the ability to ride speeders was 40,000 - We may actually need to pay extra for the speeders. I'll check tonight.

Have you played it yet ?
There are different animations for every move, which, in my opinion are second to none within the MMO genre. As a Jedi Knight at least.
Force leaping into a group of mobs, jumping up into the air and slamming into the floor knocking them all over with force sweep is really satisfying!

Each to their own ! :)

+1

Can't see me playing as anything other than a Sith Warrior on release. I want to play other classes in the beta, but I just can't pull myself away from my Sith Warrior character.

The advanced classes are marauder (DPS) and juggernaut (tank) for the Sith warrior (very similar for Jedi Knight) - since I sold all of my (blue) heavy armour about 2 minutes before realising I was about to choose my specialism, I decided to go for marauder for the DPS.

I suspect in the final release I will go for juggernaut since everytime I am in a group, people always wait for me to do my "jumping thing", then I get seriously mobbed.

DPS generally makes levelling quicker too. Plus two lightsabers always looks very cool :)

I have tried playing as a Jedi Knight/Consular a couple of times now, but I find them too "peaceful" and "good". The Imperials are much more fun :)

It should cost a bomb for your first mount - I hope 40,000 credits is really a lot of money. It's a huge moment in the game and you should be made to work for it. I remember starting to save up for my level 40 mount in vanilla WoW from around level 20, and it still took me ages - I think I was actually around 45 before I got it.

Just got to say a big thanks to all those passing on info from testing.

The user feedback CaptainRAVE is great to read. It has given me a better understanding of the state of the game which is more than can be said for Bioware's press releases.

No diminishing returns on crowd control, seriously? Hopefully he's just imagining that one, seems like a terribly fundamental mistake to make.

There is a diminishing returns meter, that fills up the more you receive crowd control. When this fills up, you receive temporary immunity to crowd control.

You can see your own meter, not sure if others can see yours too.
