*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

There is a diminishing returns meter, that fills up the more you receive crowd control. When this fills up, you receive temporary immunity to crowd control.

You can see your own meter, not sure if others can see yours too.

Sounds like an intriguing way of doing it, how do the mechanics of that work? For example if a player casts a stun on me, how long does that count in the meter for before it "empties" from the meter? Could a player stun you a few times and then wait a few secs for the meter to drop a bit so that he can stun again without triggering the immunity? Or does it take minutes for a CC count in the meter to drop?

Say for instance that it takes 5 CCs on you from players to fill up your DR meter and make you immune to CC, how long can it be on 4 CCs before it starts to empty. How long does the meter take to fill roughly? ie. how many times could a player get stunned by another player before he couldnt be stunned anymore? How long is the immunity for too?

Not 100% sure, but apparently its based of the same style as the one from Warhammer Online.

I think there are "weak" and "strong" crowd controls, for example in WoW, Gouge would be a weak, while sap would be strong.

So weak cc's would fill up the bar less then strong ones.

I would assume it would take minutes rather then seconds.

Just got to say a big thanks to all those passing on info from testing.

The user feedback CaptainRAVE is great to read. It has given me a better understanding of the state of the game which is more than can be said for Bioware's press releases.

Betacakes is the place to be. They just released about 15 beta screenshots. Plus the 3 hours of recorded beta footage.

Hope you can turn that off, don't fancy having it on my screen, using your head in WoW to remember DR wasn't very difficult.

I don't think you understand, it isn't like wow at all so why would you want to turn it off. Because each CC ability in swtor has different values to filling the "bar", that it also unfills after some period of time, why wouldn't you want to know the second it is ready?

Another friend started the EU beta today as server went live there's queue of around 950. People moaning starting area is too small for the amount of people. but if remember wow was like that.
Allot of people on the boards slating the UI as clunky horrible ugly ect. Lag is real bad. Allot of people also kicking of about the graphics and the player creation. This game gravely needs Anti Aliasing.
Only good comments so far is the voice acting and a few about combat.
Think some people need to remember this is a beta.

To be fair though, the old "this is a beta" line has been churned out time and time again in MMOs, only for said MMO to ship in virtually an identical state to the beta. I'm not sure the "this is a beta" excuse washes any more. Its almost become the case that you could put money down that what you see in an MMO beta now is what you will see come release.

Though the queue issue would almost certainly change as you'd expect higher caps for release than beta.

Ugh, give me beta invite! I'll pay monies!

Oddly enough I remember actually paying monies to get into the SWG beta. If I recall correctly it was £5 or something you had to pay to get in at the stage I got in.

I'll do you a deal though LateX, swtor beta means much more to you than it does to me, so if I get a beta invite, you can have mine. (assuming that Chk4 doesnt want one, as I owe him one :D )

Yup, the "beta" excuse doesn't wash anymore.

Bioware certainly have the ability to change things though and I feel like they are holding plenty back.

At the same time, however, there were lots of important changes requested by the community during closed beta that have been completely ignored.

Only time will tell how this one shapes up. It has enormous potential, so fingers crossed :)

lol, how much did people pay for the Starcraft 2 beta - even members of OcUK? I remember figures in the many hundreds of pounds!

Edit: Look at our post count Tombstone! 9,970 to 6,970! Crazy :p

Aww look, you've gone and jinxed it now because you've used that dreaded cursed MMO sentence before release of "It has enormous potential" :D

Yeah darned weird as I could have sworn my post count was way lower than that not long ago !!

The thing is, as many have said, what SWTOR does well it does REALLY well. They just need to sort a few things. Listen to the community and they COULD have a really excellent game. It is one to watch for sure.

Indeed. If things all pan out nicely over the coming years there could be a real selection of nice MMOs to choose from. SWToR , GW2, Garriotts new MMO, Firors new MMO (really REALLY interested to see what that turns out like)

The thing is, an mmo takes even more time then a normal game even when its released, some mmo's your best waiting another 6 to 12 months after release before you start playing, that way by the time you play the updates will be done and the game more polished, just because of the sheer scale of an mmo compared to ordinary games.

I know Wow changed a lot over the years and had so many updates that changed the game in so many different ways.

Even if you play SWTOR on release, if you played for one month and dont like it, your prob best returning to it later down the line after updates/patches/new content to see if you like it then.

After countless terrible experiences trying to pick up an mmo on release day no matter what I hear I will be staying away for at least a month. The obvious flaws will ve ironed out, queues will die off and the polarised fanboy/hater Slangfest will calm off enough to get a true opinion on the game.

Agreed, as long as they listen to the *reasonable* members of the community. MMO's normally have such a vocal, whingy, childish, I want I want I want crowd, that the less vocal more sensible lot generally don't get a look in :)

The advanced classes are marauder (DPS) and juggernaut (tank) for the Sith warrior (very similar for Jedi Knight) - since I sold all of my (blue) heavy armour about 2 minutes before realising I was about to choose my specialism, I decided to go for marauder for the DPS.

I suspect in the final release I will go for juggernaut since everytime I am in a group, people always wait for me to do my "jumping thing", then I get seriously mobbed.

DPS generally makes levelling quicker too. Plus two lightsabers always looks very cool :)

I have tried playing as a Jedi Knight/Consular a couple of times now, but I find them too "peaceful" and "good". The Imperials are much more fun :)

So there is no mechanic to buy/swap two classes yet? Just the point you said, dps to lvl and tanking for flashpoints, end game etc. Like most mmo's if you spec tank from the start, it might be a long old grind!

Luckily the beta group that I have been a part of has been exellent so far. Bioware would do well to listen to them. Much better than previous MMO beta communitys I have been involved with.

There is a skill tree reset available, but that is all so far. As a Sith Warrior, regardless of the group I always seem to be expected to tank and always draw the aggro regardless, so thinking I should have gone for juggernaut (tank).
