*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

The thing is, as many have said, what SWTOR does well it does REALLY well. They just need to sort a few things. Listen to the community and they COULD have a really excellent game. It is one to watch for sure.

You'll get two sides in the community. On one side, you'll have the SWG crew from sandboxside, and the TOR & WoW players [who are bored of WOW] on the TORWOWside, so there will be sandbox elements coming from the SWG crew and TOR & WoW players will be addressing the issues with the game more so than actual content as they will see the game in a different way.

Luckily the beta group that I have been a part of has been exellent so far. Bioware would do well to listen to them. Much better than previous MMO beta communitys I have been involved with.

Excellent news, thanks :)

As for the comments on respecs between specialisations, well I'm fairly oldschool & don't think that should be available. Pick an advanced class, stick with that class - respecs within spec lines are fine, but respecs between say dps > tank for the endgame just cheapen the whole thing to me. Too many people not knowing their class.

Plus I like reasons for levelling mulitple characters, hehe.

Completely agree with you man, a lot of people moaned in wow about so many things, but the only thing I remember complaining about was that you could be two classes in one, two skills trees, just seems daft, coz you had dps'ers thinking they could tank and healers thinking they could dps.

MMO's are meant to be hard, if you want both you should have to level both.

Just makes the game feel rubbish to me if you can do both.

I agree, but the reason they changed it was that if you were a heavy healing/tank class solo and levelling was a nightmare. It put a lot of people off playing them classes so they introduced dual spec to encourage more people to pick up them classes. I remember one of the better healers in my TBC guild druid healed in a hybrid boomkin/resto tree simply to allow her to do things outside of raids.

The biggest problem at the moment is that advanced classes are very poorly explained (you can't even see the skill trees in advance!) and you simply get told "you cannot go back after this decision". There have been a number of suggestions:

- Make advanced classes available from the start of the game, not from level 10+
- Introduce them through a couple of tutorial type quests
- Show the skill trees before having to decide!

I am sure these suggestions will get taken on board.

One of my favourite things at the moment are the "bonus quests" that appear sometimes when you appear in a certain area or through a certain quest. They are along the lines of kill "x" number of x, but can usually be done quite easy while questing and give good XP rewards. While a lot of the questing is along the lines of usual MMOs "scan this, kill this", in TOR these missions are very well concealed in an excellent story.

I have also gotten into crafting today. It needs a bit of polish, but I like being able to send my companions off on their own missions.

This is a really good point, and I agree 100% !

I was just reading an article on that betacake blog website someone linked earlier, they asked this guy that played the game:

Q. Secondly, I have a question about bounties in game. Is there a bounty system for bounty hunters, and how does it work?

A. There is no player bounties.

I think thats a great shame, would have been good especially on PVP servers to go kill or capture someone for a bounty/ransom. They did it in eve.

So far from what I've read about TOR it doesnt seem as hardcore as eve, it seems more like wow, still excited for it tho, but just saying.

I would probably instantly go and play any MMO that introduced a "bounties" style PvP system on players. It would be a little difficult to implement but it would be a great boost to world PvP. Whilst this game is sounding more promising the more I read I still can't see it offering anything new in regards to PvP which is a real shame, its really sidelined these days in favour of PvE.

In SWTOR there will still be those that respec between tank / dps and healer / dps as in some of the advanced classes different skill trees have a different focus.

For example:

Jedi Knight Guardian & Sith Warrior Juggernaught have three skills trees each, one is for tanking, one is for dps and the other is shared. So there will be guardians and juggernaughts that switch between roles.

And just incase anyone mentions it Bioware have stated guardian DPS will be as viable as any pure dps class.

Oddly enough I remember actually paying monies to get into the SWG beta. If I recall correctly it was £5 or something you had to pay to get in at the stage I got in.

I'll do you a deal though LateX, swtor beta means much more to you than it does to me, so if I get a beta invite, you can have mine. (assuming that Chk4 doesnt want one, as I owe him one :D )

If you did this, i would name my child (due in November) Tombstone.

There used to be a guild on the UO server I played on whose main role was to be hired by other guilds to deal with troublesome PKers, you'd pay the guild to track down and deal with pkers who were hassling your guild houses/player run towns. Wasnt a game mechanic, was just something that the players "created". Worked very well :)

So there is no mechanic to buy/swap two classes yet? Just the point you said, dps to lvl and tanking for flashpoints, end game etc. Like most mmo's if you spec tank from the start, it might be a long old grind!

They are currently thinking about if they will allow you to respec your advanced class.

But the problem with that is its basically a class swap, which then negates the point of giving you classes in the first place.

Jedi knight is the story arc

Jedi Sentinal and Guardian are the classes.

And just incase anyone mentions it Bioware have stated guardian DPS will be as viable as any pure dps class.

If they follow through with that, they may as well remove the jedi sentinal and sith warrior maraudor.

Because those guys are spec'd purely for dps. There would be no point taking them to any raid.

And the issues that the "SWG crew" are going to have will be more to do with entire gameplay mechanics rather than bugs / little things that need a bit of work done. I'm sure BioWare were prepared for a lot of feedback from people hoping for a spiritual successor to SWG, but given that TOR has no aspirations to be a sandbox MMO they will probably discard most of it.

Betas aren't an opportunity for the players to brainstorm on what they think would be cool in the game, or what other games this game should be more like.

Plus, since Bioware are working with Mythic it is thought there will be RvR type endgame for control of sectors on the galaxy map.

I really haven't followed this game much at all, I didn't know that about Mythic being involved - but it certainly explains some of the design decisions. And since DAoC was the best game ever made, I'm now a bit giddy ;)

But no beta for me yet. Pft. Hehe :)
