*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

I thought then when I read it :D

This instancing talk is getting a bit out of hand I think. They've said that the phasing is for the story telling within the game, which I totally understand them doing. It makes more sense than having 20 people all waiting for a particular boss to spawn just so they can finish their quest :p

Well phasing and instancing are two different things. I think the issue isnt with the phasing, but with the idea of zones themselves being instanced as they appear to be in beta at the moment. I just kind of miss the days of having 250 people in a zone and being able to encounter them all instead of having 75 people in Tatooine 1, 75 people in Tatooine 2, 75 people in Tatooine 3 and 25 people and my mate in Tatooine 4 :)

Oh I totally understand that, and I expect it not to be in the final game. If it is then it'll be catastrophic. Luckily HRH is giving me a four month southern holiday over the release period so by the time I'm back all will be revealed!

Give me the lottery winnings on Friday and I will make my MMO design come to life !

I've have one all laid out in my head for a long time now, game mechanics, professions, PvP, PvE, grouping, factions, crafting. Got the lot worked out in my head. Its not fantasy though, its set in earths wild west. Give me the lottery millions and I'll get the team together and bring back the wonder of UO and Daoc , and I wont give a hoot if it financially booms or not because I'll already have £160m from the lottery win :D

I'll go into business with you mate if I win the lottery because I have ideas like that as well :p

There will be no one playing it by the time your back if everything's instanced :p. (srs)

And to top it off............

I'm a little confused with the lore of SW:TOR at the moment, maybe it's because I've only played some of KOTOR1 and not read any expanding books. In the films you see the emporer cleverly develop the republic into the empire through development of military advances such as ships gradually showing to look more and more like the tie-fighters and star destroyers we know from the last 3 episodes. Also we come to realise the storm trooper army used by the empire was also developed under the republic during the clone wars. Now all this technology and army composition gradually implimented by sidious also appears 3000+ years earlier? Is it suddenly told then that darth sidious did nothing more than to resurect and gear towards tech and military used over 3 millenia ago?

No, they simply have no imagination or abilities to factor in the three thousand years of passage of time.

This.

They've taken a populist approach with ships looking exactly like they do at their most popular moments in the film series and similar with everything else. Would not be surprised to see a Death Star or something extremely similar at some point.

They are making sure that cash cow mooo's as much as it can.

I suppose things look closer to stuff from the movies than it did in Kotor in order to attract more people from the general star wars audience but I think the 'story' explanation is basically Palpatine is looking back at this Empire and using the symbolism etc in his own empire, much like various people throughout our own history have looked back to Rome.

And it doesn't bother me one bit. It's only Star Wars for Christ's sake - they aren't exactly butchering a masterwork of literature. There are probably plenty of better, more imaginative writers at BioWare than George Lucas.
