I know that Agüero or Kaká would be expensive to sign, then their annual wage packet would be obscene, but I meant Chelsea are trimming their costs from one department, in a sense. With Essien coming back, and younger prospects such as Kakuta coming through, you can see how Cole and Ballack aren't really needed... Cole wasn't needed this year, and Ballack wouldn't've played as much if Essien had been fit... so cutting £10m a year by cutting them is pretty sensible, imo (for the pure cost saving, and to send out the message that they won't be held to ransom).

I agree but it wasn't a case of refusing to be held to ransom, it was a case of Chelsea not wanting/needing them.

Apparently Cole was being very demanding with wages :o

Yep he wants around £90k to £100k a week for his services...i think hes being a bit unreasonable tbh...i dont think Arsenal will pay him that much although rumours are that we have already signed him on a 3 yr deal but then you have dodgy 'arry now saying hes interested in him...wonder if the Spuds can afford his wages.

Hopefully will soon find out which club is signing him...i do hope its Arsenal as he would be a good fit for our team.

Perfectly reasonable wages to me for a player with no signing on fee. Chelsea surely would have been better signing him for 4 years and then transfer listing him.

Pretty much the same as when Sol signed on a free, big wages for the first deal and then a pay cut if he wants to stay.

So dissapointed we're letting Joe Cole go. One of my favourite Chelsea players and will be sorely missed both on the field and off imo.

Everyone likes Joe Cole, he's just one of those players, however I don't think he'll be missed that much on the field to be honest, he's not the player he used to be:(
Im more surprised at Ballack and Beletti leaving Chelski at the end of the month from what i heard on SSN this morning.
They're both getting on a bit and Beletti has only ever added nuisance value, I thought we might've kept Ballack on a rolling contract just as back up but that'd take away opportunities for some of our promising youngsters to get a chance, a good move getting rid of him now I think.

Exactly, If Chelsea thought they were still good enough for a top side they would've come to an agreement on their wages.

True i forgot about the no signing on fee...

I think we have a good chance unless he wants to try abroad. Signing on fee and then reasonable 'Arsenal' wage.

Very promising that Wenger was quoted on SS saying that he was basically prepared to pay out big if it was needed to strengthen our defence. I hope he isnt just teasing us :D

Well i hope so as i do like him..one of my favourite chelski players but with dodgy 'arry sniffing around we might not get him as he was with him at West Ham so that might swings things in the Spuds favour:(.

But yes i want us to acknowledge our defensive problems...get rid of the deadwood ie Silvestre and try to hang onto Gallas if we can as hes been pretty solid for us when hes not injured.

Hoping that Wenger signs a world class GK soon...

I'm gonna start calling Wenger "dodgy 'enger".

Not because I think he fiddles with the club finances, but rather the club youth...

LOL go ahead...makes no difference to me...i think dodgy 'arry suits him seeing as hes been linked so many times with backhanders and also a bit of tax dodging if im not mistaken...wasnt he in court a few mths ago regarding some taxes that werent paid

Oh yes here you go: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8459969.stm

:D

Yep dodgy 'arry definitely suits him:p

Linked is very different to proven.

Tens of thousands of football fans sing that Wenger favours the younger gentleman at every derby game. Is that true? :p

I didnt say he it was proven though lol...but theres no smoke without fire;)

I dont know:confused:...im not at liberty to say...if he does then hes doing a fine job seeing as our youngsters have developed far faster than your lot have:p

I wonder if we go for green. Not 100% sure about him though. Not much of a step up from Almunia

West Ham co-owner David Gold says England goalkeeper Robert Green is up for grabs this summer. The 29-year-old's contract expires next year and Gold revealed: "At this stage we are not going to have talks with him about a new deal."

I can't see any of the top 4 going for Green, he's not good enough.

Also, have you realised now that I wasn't even talking to you further up the thread?

I saw your little rant but I just wanted you to realise you got the wrong end of the stick.

In future I will make it plain and clear when I am abusing you.

Agreed, a player of Joe Cole's calibre can easily command a £5m wage packet when he's on a Bosman. If you think about it that's only £15m over the course of a 3 year contract, which is the equivalent of buying someone for £7.5m and then paying them only £50k/week.

As for Green, I think if Wenger was going to buy him it would have been from Norwich a few years ago, was strongly rumoured at the time. Still, might be worth waiting until January and then look to sign him up on a pre-contract deal for next summer.
