He'd pretty much take BFS' wage, assuming the latter's still planning on buggering (no pun intended) off to Celtic, so I doubt it would affect our wage bill at all.

Sol will be on pretty much smeg all right now.

Firstly wasn't he on a pay if you actually play status, secondly, no one wanted to risk paying him anything, so he had no offers after he tried to cash in at a league 2 club and then walked out. Its not like there were a dozen clubs offering 60k a week and we offered him 80k. I'd be surprised if he made more than the equivilent of 30-40k a week since Jan, probably less.

Gallas was on mental $$££ too so that's another 100k a week off the bill

Gallas was on 80k a week, which is nothing really seeing was we got him in as a double league winning player, one of the best in the league and much older than the 55-60k a week Cole we swapped him for.

Cole at 100K a week + ain't going to happen, Sol, years ago was on a rumoured 100k a week(likely less but again an equivilent figure with a high signing on bonus to make up the difference.

Joe Cole isn't worth 80k a week, he's not worth 50k a week, he's a short, not very fast winger who thinks he's better than he is and can't maintain his fitness....... much like all of Arsenals current midfield. Currently he wouldn't take Fabregas's, Diabys(because Wenger loves him for some reason), Songs, Arshavins spot, so we're going to rotate Cole, Bendtner, Walcott, Eboue, Wilshire, Ramsey and a half dozen others, and pay a bench warmer 100k a week. Doubtful.

When we got Sol we were looking for a long term centre back to replace a Tony Adams, we were looking for a first team started for several years and Sol was one of the best around when we got him. Joe Cole won't start, isn't at the top of his game, won't be around for long, we have a half dozen midfielders like him already.

The only worrying thing is, no matter how many short injury prone not quite good enough and not quite fast enough midfielders we buy, Wenger just keeps on buying them, so maybe Wenger will buy him, will be utterly stupid though.

He wasnt on £100k or anything like that...he asked Arsenal before the WC that he wanted a 2 yr deal with around £90k a week to which Arsenal said sling your hook...i think its only Fabregas thats on £100k+ a week.

Stop being so pessimistic - we certainly do not know this for "sure".

you may turn out to be correct on Sep 1 , but you dont know for sure right now!!!

edit - Actually you are wrong - we have signed Hernandez this Summer, although I realise you meant "making any more signings"

Oh come on if we were in for anyone the rumours would be strong by now but alas the only person we were being linked with has since been categorically denied

As for Smalling and Hernandez; I dont class players who will be playing in our reserves to be anything to get excited about

I could have sworn that Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere were at Arsenal. They've also currently got Sol Campbell and Keiran Gibbs too I believe plus Aaron Ramsey is Welsh so is still British also.

Apart from Walcott how many of those are in and around the England squad? None is the answer, I may be wrong but Joe Cole strikes me as someone who will be wanting to go somewhere somewhat familiar so either United or Spurs. We've been ruled out so that leaves Spurs....

Im not disagreeing with you - but Utd have signed a player this summer (Smalling was signed in Jan and lent back to Fulham for the rest of the season) :)

I know it was a long time ago but Anderson signing came out of nowhere - so we are able to keep things secret

Luis Fabiano would be nice, still miffed at supposedly not going for Joe Cole mind... Oh and LOL @ Gary Neville... the big hippy!

WHy are we desparate to sign a keeper that has a very high chance of retiring after a year and payday for moving to Arsenal.

3.5mil, signing bonus, maybe a mil, for a guy we might have a for a year and if he takes a big injury will almost certainly call it a day. 4.5mil for a keeper, for a year, to need to find a striker in a year and change the lineup again?

Why not just buy a long term keeper now, okay Lloris is not impressive, but in a team playing like crap, but lets assume he's world class, and would cost 15-20mil, with a decade left to play, thats 2mil a year, and we get started on a long term stable gk and back 4(with new CB's coming in this year).

I think Wengers just deluded and hopes a season or possibly two under Schwazer might somehow turn Fabianski into a great keeper and then Fabianski can step up when Schwazer goes, that seems most likely to me. Its same old Wenger, will not accept defeat on players and cut his losses, but force the team to put up with players simply not good enough.

Fabiano would be a terrible buy for UTD... he is another form player, on a good day when the moon is in the right place and he is facing a weak defence he can handball his way through and smash one about 2 feet to the side of the keeper and score..

on every other day with premiership defenders kicking lumps out of him, he will be terrible, like the first game of the groups.

If we shonk Hernandez over like Tosic and just fire him out on loan, i think this proves how insane fergie is, and how badly planned his transfer policies have been. he is incapable of spotting s decent young player from a bellion. yet instead of sending bellion out on loan he tried to play him as often as he could?!!?!?

crazy.

Have you even watched Fabiano? Absolute rubbish. He's deadly for Sevilla and immense for Brazil. Why comment on a player you don't really watch!?

He is indeedy immense for both, but obviously neither team play in "the best league in the world" and he wouldn't be able to recreate this form against Blackburn on a cold, wet, muddy tuesday night.

Fabiano is a good player, he's just not a typical brazilian forward :p

He'll have a bad game yet still score. The thing is, do Utd really wanna buy a 28 year old? Would have thought they'd go for one of the top younger players.

have you ever watched Forlan? do you think he'd still be scuffing 30 in a season in the premiership? even though he's found form in spain i dont think he'd repeat that in england.

and yea even when he plays badly he scores goals, just like the North Korea match.

the reason he's 28 and still plays for Sevilla. and its not because they wont sell him. its like adriano syndrome. you see him score a goal, he's brazilian, therefore he must be out of this world all the time. its simply not true, he is not the new ronaldo.

Well he was hardly spoilt for choice at Cheski for English players when he arrived. Lampard, Terry...dont even think Cashley was there then.

Unbelievable. I watch Forlan in most games he plays internationally and for Athletico as he's one of my favourite players. One question, have you seen him tearing up the WC, he's been brilliant in every game, and ran the second, scoring 2. Did you see the UEFA Cup this season? He made light work of everybody, English or not.

I refer to my original question, do you watch Fabiano (or Forlan) regularly or are you making uninformed opinions? If you are then that's obviously why we disagree

I have to say I disagree with nearly all of your points, and also your assumption that English football is the pinnacle of football. Hasn't this World Cup taught you a thing? The Latin teams are obviously ahead of us in football terms. A lot of people need to rethink what Sky ram down our throats about how wonderful the Prem is. There's a difference between a poor player and one that doesn't perform that well in their time in the Premiership. There are way too many reasons to even go into it though!

Edit - If English players don't do well abroad does that automatically make them rubbish? I think the fact that none even try speaks volumes about the lack of adaptability in English players. Obviously adapting to a new style is linked with technique which is an issue for a lot of English players
