ok we sign Diarra, we win the ball back more. who's our way out from the pressure after he's made his 6 yard pass?

lmao made me laugh :D

I think our midfield is fine, Gibson will only get better. Giggs and Scholes have a season in them. Carrick and Fletcher obviously.

Meh, maybe we could do with a nice signing next year.

Bale - do not want.

The positions he plays are already filled well enough at United as is and I don't think he's of a high enough quality yet to justify the disproportionately large transfer fee Dirty 'Arry would want for him. Hopefully all the dismissals on Grottenham's end are serious.

Bag o' Bones-ric would be decent enough, but it depends on the price tag. Which would most likely be sky-high.

On the Spooners front, I heard Wenger was looking at getting the Fiorentina #1 Frey. Would be a great signing in my opinion, would easily be the French 'keeper over Lloris right now if he hadn't retired from international football in his mid-twenties (toys out of the pram incident about him not getting selected for a game).

'ahem' all the other midfielders we have who currently dont fit that in that role, Carrick, Scholes, Anderson, Gibson, Giggs.........
The position Modric plays, is Andersons position, the position he played for Porto, and the position Fergie has played him in..............once, in three seasons.

After all, he must be intending to play Giggs and Scholes, or they wouldnt have been given contract extensions.

Scholes and Giggs first, they'll get some games, although i expect them to feature more sporadically as we look to other players to step up and aid us in our transition. Gibson, no chance, I think he's got a lovely shot on him but his passing game, both short and long seems pretty atrocious to me. I'd support sending him out on loan next season if we can get cover in. Anderson, needs to step up big time next season, I still hope he turns out fantastic but he's hardly been renowned for his coolness under pressure, composure and decision making in the time he's been with us has he? Qualities I'd be looking for in the kind of player I'm talking about. Carrick, erm. top notch first couple of seasons with us, but man does he allow his head to drop when the going gets tough (on this seasons showing at least) he's the player I'd porbably least entrust with the ball right now if we were in a period of sustained pressure! I hope he sorts it out but realistically that's up to him, I think Fergie is possibly having a few doubts as well currently?

Anyway, that's why I think we need a modric style player.

So what you are sayingis, all the current midfielders there, despite all of them being better at going forward then tackling are not good enough going forward, so should play where they are no good AT ALL as holding players, and United should sign Modric to sort that problem out.

Hmmm.

nope, I'm saying that regaining possession hasn't been our problem this season. retaining it and then doing something with it has.

I think I agree with Dan here. While ball winning is not brilliant in our team, doing things with it is far worse.

You say that, but for instance what was the main problem against Chelsea home and away?
Against Liverpool?

There should be a player in there who just simply steam rollers anyone in possession before they approach the back 4.

Uniteds problem is they are physically weak in the center and lacking up front even with Rooney.

I would extremely surprised if he doesnt sign a Roy Keane type player this year.

That in turn could be a complete waste of money as well. Im sure if he thinks he can get a good 30 games out of Hargreaves next season he will turn his sights for somebody who has the legs in midfield to make it all come together.

When we lost them games against Liverpool last season, all hypothetical of course but I would wager we would have gained at least a point at Anfield would Hargreaves been playing.

Maybe the fitness of Hargreaves would see Carrick have a return to form in a more attacking sense.

With the re-signing of Neville, Giggs & Scholes, my feeling is that the deal has already been done for Fergies replacement. Transfer funds have been agreed and the Glazers are keeping the purse strings tight. Whoever comes in will want their own budget to make the team in their mold and I don't think you can do that on a player in player out basis like we see now

Hargreaves was fit that day and came on as a sub when it was 1-1 :p

Mabye, lets just hope its not Moyes, O'Neil, Bruce or anyone like that they bring in to replace him.
This talk of Ferguson taking part in picking his successor as well, I dont buy it, the old goat has an agreement to walk when he likes with a days notice, I think the board have got his replacement lined up as well, and as soon as THEY start making noises that he is taking to long to go, the board will give Ferguson the push and move the new manager in.

Agreed I would not want to see either of those 3 as manager either. There is always a lot of hype surrounding O'Neil. I remember listening to an interview with John Hartson and he said that he rarely saw him around the training field during the week, it was always the back room staff. He made his money the ten minutes before a game with his team talk. With the greatest respect I think we need someone with a little more about them than that.

I don't think it's actually breaking any rules per se but as 100's of similar posts have been removed in the past including ones concerning this situation it's only fair to continue like that :)

G|mp'll blow a fuse if it weren't :p
