eanderson is very talented we have just not seen the best yet. he will become a world class player, no doubt in my mind.

Gibson is okay, he does bring energy and goals to the midfield, could do with hargreaves stood next to him however to shore things up, not just carrick and gibson!

Found some proper quotes from Arsene Wenger this morning and not some fabrications from a Kenyan newspaper. :p

We identified Koscielny as a very, very strong centre half. He can be an outstanding addition to our team. But it is not over, we are still open to buy.

We are still on the market for another defensive player because we have the need for one more.

Hopefully he sticks to what he's making out and buys another defender. I'll be happy with Almunia for another season as long as we at least get another decent defender, although I've no idea if Koscielny is any good as I've never seen him play.

NO! Don't forget what Almunia did to us in the big games (not to mention his Polish partner in crime)! The keepers have all got to go!!

Also Anderson is useless, and not in the same way that Nani is inconsistent, sometimes very good, sometimes very bad. Anderson is consistently average, and not the standard of midfielder you expect from United. His passing is very poor compared to Scholes or Giggs, he's not great defensively, and it's not like he's gonna be a Lampard-style player and bag you 20 goals a season.

I dunno if anyone else reads Tim Vickery's blog on the BBC website, if you don't I strongly recommend you do, it's one of the best. He's their resident expert on South American football, I read an interesting article he wrote about Anderson a while back, I'll see if I can find the link. Anyway the gist of it was Brazilian midfielders typically fit into two discrete categories in their homeland: 'volantes' and 'meias', the former being defensive style midfielders like Gilberto or Felipe Melo, the latter being your attacking midfielders like Kaka, Elano, Ronaldinho et al. His point was that Anderson fits into neither of the categories, and doesn't really excel at anything. I have to agree...

Wenger did hint the other day that he was going to address the issue with the goalie after the world cup has finished. He said that Al is a great keeper in training but suffers from nerves on the big games.

That suggests that he has someone lined up. Hopefully. I do feel sorry for Al though he has had some fantastic games for us but has also let in some horrible goals at the worse time and mainly to the teams we dont want to lose to most.

I am a little worried Wenger said that he was only going to get another defender. I think we need at least two more with our injury history.

Yeah we definitely need more than one more defender...or we're down to relying on our kids and Song for cover, which is far from ideal. Djourou can't be relied upon to stay fit for five minutes, and that leaves us with Vermaelen and an untested, unheard-of player who was playing in the french second division two years ago.

Still, Arsene will never be the type of manager to sign more players than he needs, he always seems to err on the other side...

I disagree with the defender comment he made, in regards to being on the lookout for one more defender. We need two more, say we sign one more for arguments sake and end up going into the new season with 4 CB's, Djourou WILL get injured and then we are relying on reserves... that doesn't bode well with me to be honest, it's either that or play Song in defense and he's just too clumsy to be a CB, also in my opinion he gave Barcelona 2 goals during the Champions League. Zonal Marking placed the blame on Vermaelen but it was Song's fault for the chip over because he didn't close down Ibrahimovic, and he didn't track back either, he just stood in no mans land while the ball got chipped over his head, Vermaelen had to stop marking his player to run inside to cover for Songs mistake but it was too late. He's garbage at CB and he gives away so many fouls It would be a very risky move.

As for Almunia he's made some absolute stinkers but on the whole he is reliable, unfortunately when you're a goalkeeper you only have to make one mistake and you're a hate figure, admittedly he's made several, but some of his mistakes are purely down to having a shoddy defence in front of you. Now that we've gotten rid of the 3 pensioners and are replacing maybe we'll have a better time at our end of the pitch.

His decision making is terrible, not that of a quality keeper whatsoever

Sure he doesn't drop clangers all the time but the amount of time he leaves his line when he shouldn't....

Skysports.com understands Arsenal are ready to turn their attentions to Slovenia star Samir Handanovic as they look to bring in a new goalkeeper.

Wenger has made recruiting a shot-stopper one of his top priorities this summer as he looks to solve the somewhat problematic position at the Emirates.

The Gunners have been linked with a host of keepers and it appears Udinese custodian Handanovic is at the top of Wenger's wanted list after impressing the Frenchman at the World Cup, especially in the narrow defeat to England.

Handanovic is regarded as one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe having impressed for club and country in recent years.

Arsenal have seen a bid for Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer rejected and the Gunners could now switch their focus to Handanovic as an alternative, with the player seen as a long-term option for the club as he is only 25-years-old.

Udinese are reluctant to lose Handanovic, but they would find it hard to turn down a sizeable offer for the player.

LOL

He's the worst passer in their midfield, has a HUGE turning circle, isn't very good in a tackle, is slow, and doesn't score goals.

What is he going to do next season? Is he all of a sudden going to be a goal machine?

He'll slowly improve because of the players around him, but that doesn't mean he'll ever be good enough to perform at the level expected of the club and fans.

I'll stick my neck out here as I think it's a sure thing. He's never going to be even debatably world class. He has none of the attributes to carry him to anything like that level, he'll do a half decent job at Sunderland or somewhere.

Handanovic would be a good buy but the key word from that Sky Sports piece is "sizeable". I don't know if Wenger would loosen the purse strings to the sort of money that Udinese would be happy with. I'd say they'd probably look for at least £10,000,000. If Almunia is number 1 for another season I don't think it will be a disaster. We've come close twice to winning the league with him so he isn't that bad.

I was excited about Anderson, thought he would be an Essien or Fletcher style box-to-box midfielder but he's not a good game for a long time. He just doesn't seem to have the attributes to be good at anything really.

I agree with the criticism of Anderson (with regards to his development since we bought him) but I do think he possesses a lot of skills that could make him a quality first team player. I just don't reckon Ferguson uses him right and he's been made a makeshift defensive midfielder as it's an area we've been sorely lacking in midfield since Keane left.

Personally quite upset that we've seen the last of the Black4 - goodbye Silvestre, Campbell and Gallas, sweet princes.

haha :D

TBH Anderson came with this rep of being an attacking midfielder whereas in truth he's more of a Davids kind of destroyer

There's no doubt he hasn't improved the way we all thought he would because in his first season when he played against Gerrard at Anfield and Fabregas at the Emerites he got the better of both (got the better of Fabregas in a couple of games actually) but like Nani he's never reallly taken his game on since that early optimism

His passing and goalscoring is going to have to have a complete turn around for him to be viewed as any kind of creative player so I think he's going to end up being a lot like Fletcher i.e. can run about harassing everyone forcing them into mistakes albeit Fletch to boot is a pretty good passer and can score the odd goal or two and is good in the air

Personally I can see both us and Anderson becoming unhappy with the present situation and he'll go back to Brazil or join some Eastern European club
