Would like to see Arsenal buy Mascherano, they were very strongly linked with him 6 or so years ago when he was playing in Argentina, and we are still in need of a replacement for Gilberto.

With Campbell seemingly on his way to Newcastle I'd like to see us sign Gallas, good player who would be a free transfer and proven experience in the Prem. Presumably contract length is an issue though so we may have to look elsewhere. Would be happy with Jaglieka as he is home grown and would also offer cover for Almunia, but seems overpriced at £16m.

Agreed. Not sure if we can afford him though - and whether they'd sell with the new ruling.

I was bored at work earlier so I knocked up a Man City squad of 17+8 to see who might be left out in the cold if I was in charge, it was actually surprisingly easy to come up with 8 home grown players, they can afford to lose one or two (I've deliberately left Ireland out of the below for illustrative purposes):

Given
Hart
Bridge
Lescott
Richards
A.Johnson
SWP
Bellamy

So as you can see from a homegrown perspective there is no need at all for the likes of Ireland to be kept, only footballing reasons. Even if some of the above were to move on there are plenty more waiting in the wings like M.Johnson, Onouhahadufhaushahhahaha, Taylor etc etc.

Dunno all BBC says is he's joining Espanyol. Figured if he was going it would be through his own choice

It's all come from an article in Spain where it says Maxi has been told he can leave (far from certain that's the case) and that Espanyol want him on loan but we're only interested in a sale.

Realistically Arsenal aren't going to be willing to pay the £25m+ that it'll take for us to sell him.

We might take Fabregas as part of the deal though :p

Yeah, although I thought SWP/Bellamy were pretty much going? But yeah Man City can actually make it quite easily.

Update on the Insua situation. Officials from Fiorentina are saying that Insua's wages are holding up the deal, supposedly he's refusing to take a pay cut.

Solomon Campbell @ Newcastle

Mags are rather scraping the barrel now, aren't they? I know Taylor has shoulder crock and Hughton has no cash, but even with Campbell's pedigree it still strikes me as a signing that stands to do more harm than good, especially if Newcastle start shipping goals. He has never been one to stand up unless it is to have a go at someone else - witness his words on Capello leaving him out this summer - if he shows up, takes the cash and buggers off, I will be mighty peeved :/
