Luke Young is decent player for a UEFA Cup team, though if funds are limited at 'pool it's a worrying signing for the Scousers as it shows a lack of ambition.

Lets not get overly dramatic. We signed Degen and Dossena the season we finished 2nd and won the CL the year we signed Josemi.

Young's not going to be any worse than those and shows no less ambition.

No he's better then him. Just the wrong side of 30. Got a mate who is a Villa ST holder and he was baffled as to why O'Neill never played him. Was fantastic for us in his one season at Boro, one of the few signing's Southgate made that was actually good. Vastly underrated which I'm not surprised about since I never thought much of him myself until I saw him play for us.

However, not sure where he will fit in at Liverpool. Johnson will be first choice RB and would expect at 31 he would be better looking at a team that will offer him regular football.
 
With how small our squad is, and RH's love of 4-4-2 i expect him to get a fair few games anyway with a good chance of GJ being shifted to RM on a few occasions, plus theres the early EL games, FA cup games and league cup.
And with entering the EL early its going to be a looong season, should still make 25 or so games.

It's not necessarily the quality of the player, it's the reported lack of funds available, meaning that only a few signings will be made. Do you throw a chunk of your budget to sign a backup to one of your strong positions, or should you spend more where the gaping hole is?

Really really hope we don't sign him as it goes. I might be being unfair and prejudicial, but I know the German press has always had it in for him, and labelled him as error prone, and he just looks so clumsy. I would much rather Hangeland, but at this point, I suppose any CB is a good CB for us...

He's the jewel in Fulham's defence, I can't see Fulham asking for less that £15m. Which I doubt Wenger would be willing to spend on a 29 y/o (or pretty much anyone for that matter).
