I think Hughes is quite a good choice for fulham, certainly better than erikson. If it increases your odds of getting bellamy/ireland then even better.

He managed to play and score in the world cup with it, and its what he was out with early to mid season last year wasn't it? I think he never really got over it but was rushed back because RVP was out so has had the injury on/off for a year or so. It can't be awful if he can play and score, hopefully a little time out gets rid of it once and for all. As you said though, can't see him starting much.

I really have no clue what Wengers starting line up will be, Chamakh will be on what you assume is a pretty huge wage with no transfer fee, is he going to start any games, maybe push RVP out wide right where he's played effectively loads of times, not a clue.

Thomas has looked pretty damn brilliant in pre-season though, as in, held it up, strong, good running, hard working, good touch, good pass, good vision, good finishing, smart movement and linked up very well with other players.

We've got zero depth at CB, DM, no natural wingers except maybe Wilshire. Upfront for a central role we've got, RVP, Bendtner, Chamakh, Vela, Thomas, Theo. Thats more strikers than most clubs have, for one positions. Not seen Chamakh wide yet, but all those players are infinately better central rather than on the wing, maybe Bendtner, RVP, Thomas would be good enough wide.

Indeed, I think Ireland and Bellamy (just the two named examples) would be a brilliant signing for most of the league to be honest.

Certainly worth an offer.

I don't think theres a team that couldn't benefit from them, top to bottom. Ireland was there best central attacking midfielder by a mile, Vieira and Barry are a joke in comparison to someone not match fit and having some weird illness for 1/3 of the season, on form he'll be even better again.

Bellamy is probably their most consistant player for years, and has been basically outstanding for them. He's also one of a few players in the league who almost never has a bad game. Fulham would do fantastically to get both, but as you said, any team would be happy to get them.

Of course its mostly rumours that have them leaving, personally I think Bellamy is massively better than Johnson for now, more experience, more goals, and just a better player. Mancini seemingly dropped Bellamy, played crap and swiftly backed away from that decision and stuck him right back in the team, would he make that mistake again? LIkewise ditch Ireland, play Vieira whose been truly awful, then in another year find a new creative midfielder to play?

Should Hughes sign (most likely), it'd be great to get either Bellamy, Ireland and even Santa Cruz. I can definitely see us grabbing a few players from Man City, not that they need to sell, but I guess they'll get rid of the players just hovering around.

I'd also like Aurelio if he doesn't re-sign for Liverpool...definitely need a left back, striker, midfielder and possibly another GK.

It'd be nice to have another stand out player, like Murphy the season before last, Zamora/Dempsey more recently, and Duff I guess. I'm not sure how Hughes will play our team though, as currently it's more of a 4-4-1-1 with Gera hovering behind Zamora, although that could all change with a new striker/Andy Johnson back.

exactly - everything Im reading is saying the opposite

(I think Parker would be a good squad player for Spurs - but the problem imo is that he wouldnt get that many games , and therefore he is better off playing every week at WHU than warming the bench for when Palacios and Modric play

Just reading that Balotelli to Man City is a done deal, £24mil transfer fee, £65k a week wages.

Further speculation linking us to Marchetti too... I would prefer a different keeper, but if we can get him for the reported £5mil I suppose it's better than the prospect of another season of Almunia/Fabianski

Hoping Arsenal have an awful season so we can sneak into 4th spot.

Without signing another CB Wenger is taking a big risk IMO.

Cannot see Man City finishing outside the top 2 this season.

I can, they may be throwing money about but their team needs to gel as well as the foreign imports needing time to adapt. I predict a very similar season to last.

City will challenge. Chelsea are still my favourites, but I think Man Utd will struggle unless (as andy@moFo said) Rooney is on fire again.

If Arsenal, Man Utd or Chelsea would have signed Silva and Yaya (with the realistic prospect of Balotelli and Milner as well) their fans would have been creaming themselves.

Regarding City I go back to how many of their players are real 'stars'

Yaya Toure - not seen much of him myself but when I have he hasn't looked that good. Not sure if he's an improvement on De Jong

Boateng - Will probably improve their defence, give they dont have a stand out RB, or will he play CB alongside the other Toure?

Kolarov - Never heard of him but seeing as Bridge is ****e he's bound to be an improvement

Silva - At this point I would say there's a question mark over over whether he'll be able to adapt and even then is he really the type of player who can transform at team?

Milner - Who knows if he'll even sign but again I dont think he's the type of player that will transform a team and again where will he play?

Balotelli - do they really need another striker? Especially one with question marks over his temperament

Dont get me wrong both Silva & Balotelli (if he signs) will put City on the right track to appealing to the better players but only if they signed a genuine world class player like Torres would I really be that worried about them in terms of a title challenger
