gourcuff looks like a really good prospect - but personally would prefer to buy someone like Ozil who is nearer the consistancy level Utd require currently

l would be very surprised if SAF puts up with Anderson any longer - so thats three seasons "wasted" as in developing a player for the future 1st XI, Im not sure Utd can wait another season or two to start the process again (with someone that young / inexperienced).

I agree....I cant believe a deal for Ozil hasnt happened for any team....though it seems he will like to end his contract then be a free agent.....and utd cant afford to wait again you mean ;)

Ozil isn't that consistent at club level tbf but that ties in with the player he is. He doesn't really get involved in the game and makes chances out of nothing, but can go quiet for 20-30 minutes at a time. Similar to Arshavin tbh. Gourcuff likes to be involved more and is a bit less attacking than Ozil, but has a brilliant passing range and is really creative

Ozil's club is unlikely to want to let him go for free though - £12m now or get a season from him and dont get any cash.......I personally think they will sell him this summer (although it could go either way)

No I dont believe Utd can afford to wait - esp with Anderson probably not playing for Utd again and Hargreaves too (although OH wont make any difference from last season)

See where you are coming from - and Evra could help (or hinder) any possible move for Gourcuff

Hard to tell but I would still bet on Ozil being much more involved with Utd than with WB due to the class of players he is surrounded by - but who knows :)

Shawcross's tackle was never malicious....it was simply a tackle gone bad....from what i remember Ramsey fractions before the tackle passed the ball which was Shawcross original target....You could see how devastated he was when he went off crying...

Ozil has already said hes staying
"For now, my situation for the next 12 months is clear. Only the facts count and the fact is, I am under contract with Werder. I cannot know what comes after that,"

you missed the whole point

If the club wants to sell him (to generate cash to buy his replacement rather than let Ozil go on a free) then Ozil's own statement doesnt really mean much does it!!!

Maybe his current club have enough money to throw away £12 - £15m , but I think thats unlikely :)

No idea. I'll be happy if we don't sign anyone and have a poor season as a result just as long as the deal ruins the Americans for life.

(edit - sorry I quoted wrong person)

The fact Hicks and Gillet wanted to double or treble their "investment" is kind of sickening when they seem to have only taken money out of the club (were they after £800m or something ridiculous after buying it for £300m or so in 2005), after taking care of the debt I guess its worth paying each off with £50m or something to disappear but any more than that its hard to balance the books

I didnt miss the point.....But clearly Werder want to keep him or else someone would have made a bid? also wouldnt they get 5m+ back from compensation because hes below a certain age?
I hope we make a bid for him though

I reckon they'd sell Ozil as soon as a 12-15m offer arrived, but I just doubt that'll happen. There are so few clubs with that much money to throw away atm it'd have to be City/Barca/Real etc.

I would laugh for a year if the yanks got stiffed on the deal to sell the club and walked away with no profit what so ever. :D

Still, I just hope something gets sorted and H&G don't stall on the bid and things go down the pan (assuming these Chinese talks are legit), I can then see Torres leaving at the first available opportunity and to be honest I wouldn't blame him.

Who wants to play for a club where the outgoing owners couldn't give two hoots about you/the club they 'own' and just want to make a profit out of selling it.

do you honest believe you can get an equivelant player these days for anything like £5m (even if they get £5m, which Im not sure about)

Even if WB want to keep him that doesnt stop other clubs from bidding

Very few bids have actually been made this summer - in comparison to normal , I guess most clubs are waiting until players get back from post WC holidays

Even Arsenal could find £15m if AW wanted to, Chelsea certainly could, Man Utd can, Spurs - probably even majority of EPL top 10 could (I know Everton could struggle without selling 1st, but they have a pretty reasonable midfield as it is) - before even considering Germany / Italy/ Spain

I never said they could but i know there is a rule because when Sturridge left us and went to Chelsea they had to pay us 7m...

I think thats an EPL rule isnt it - rather than FIFA/UEFA?

I would have thought that if WB knew they would have to replace him within the next 12 months they would try and get back as much of the money for his replacement as possible - its just normal business practice

They might not get the chance. It would appear KH offered to buy the club but H&G refused. KH's now looking to buy the debt from RBS rather than the club meaning H&G aren't involved. If KH does buy the debt H&G would owe him and he could call in the loan whenever he wanted and as H&G wouldn't be able to repay they would lose a lot of money :D
