Even Arsenal could find £15m if AW wanted to, Chelsea certainly could, Man Utd can, Spurs - probably even majority of EPL top 10 could (I know Everton could struggle without selling 1st, but they have a pretty reasonable midfield as it is) - before even considering Germany / Italy/ Spain

Yeah but you rarely see large figures for players in the last year of their contract, clubs tend to just wait a year and pay no fee. The last one I can remember is De Jong to City (I think) and at the time most people were asking the question 'why pay 10m+ when they could have waited a season?' but obviously City don't care. Quite a lot of clubs value a player in relation to the amount left on his contract too, and so with a year left, the value of buying his contract from another club becomes minimal and obviously then it becomes pointless for Bremen to sell.

They might not get the chance. It would appear KH offered to buy the club but H&G refused. KH's now looking to buy the debt from RBS rather than the club meaning H&G aren't involved. If KH does buy the debt H&G would owe him and he could call in the loan whenever he wanted and as H&G wouldn't be able to repay they would lose a lot of money :D

Is that legally allowed?

H&G havent failed in paying interest at any point have they? Im surprised RBS is allowed to do that - surely there is a contract between RBS and H&G that hasnt been "defaulted" yet

Great for the club if it works, just surprising is all :)

true I see where you are coming from - given a complete guestimate fo £30k a week would make his contract worth £1.6m or so for the year, even if its considered his "increase" in value since the WC - still going to be well under £10m

I would still be surprised if a few cheeky bids were not put in before Sep - still a bargain for a player who should be worth far more in a few seasons time (and there would likely be more clubs competing for a free agent therefore harder to "manage" any situation)

If you base all your future plans around a player who gets injured for another team (in their final contractual year) - do you pay out for a n other player, or wait for x more months until that player is fit? If they get injured in their first year at the new club its totally different kettle of fish....

'The head of Hong Kong-based investment company QSL Sports Ltd has been in talks with Royal Bank of Scotland for some time over buying out the Reds' £237million debt. That would give him "a ridiculously large amount of leverage", a source told Press Association Sport, in order to be able to force out unpopular owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.'

For some strange reason I have an urge to watch the last 15 minutes of Trading Places :D

Shamelessly stolen from RAWK.

Would Kenny Huang have treated Benitez in the same way the Americans did?

Would he have sacked Houllier?

Would he have fired Roy Evans?

Would he have Chopped Souey?

Or they'd just hand the club over to him and walk away losing every penny they've put into the club.

That would be a loss of £0 btw :p

edit: well actually they do have personal guarantees which they would lose if that happened. It won't happen though, as the second this scenario becomes a reality, they'd sell the club for whatever offer is on the table, and that's likely to be more than the amount of bank debt.

It's reported that H&G's loan with RBS expired in March and there has been no extension. At the moment all there is in place is an unwritten agreement that RBS will allow a suitable amount of time for the club to be sold.

RBS (just like any bank with any loan) can sell the loan on to who they please and seeing as the money is already due to be paid back, whoever buys the loan could call it in straight away.

edit: And it looks like Degen's off to Stuttgart :D

Our manager is good! His record speaks for itself....our team isnt any good? your clearly a bitter red :/

LOL im not a red fella;)..perhaps you should spend more time paying attention to who supports whom lol.

Your manager isnt that good...he did well in a very weak Serie A league which is nothing compared to the EPL...until he starts winning things ie trophies then i will keep to my opinion that hes not all that good compared to other better managers who have won trophies ie SAF, Mourinho, Wenger and Ancelotti to an extent.

Just out of interest is there any exact quotes from the conversation between AW and CF after the world cup in reference to "it was the most difficult conversation I have ever had with Arsene"?

(I believe it was words to that effect anyway from Cesc) - if the meaning of the quote above is correct , surely it implies he wants to go to Barca asap?

hmmm Im not sure CF "owes" Arsenal - surely it could be looked at that he has held your team together for the last two or three seasons - arguably even before Henry left. I dont think it can really be argued that without him certainly for the last two seasons its unlikely you would still be top 4 (of course it depends on who would replace him - but lets say 2 seasons ago who in that position was ready/available for £ AW would spend to replace him)

I know the other side of the discussion is that he relatively recently signed a long extention to his contract :)

What i meant by him owing us is that we have made him the player he is today...whereas at Barca he wasnt even getting a look in...hes improved 10 fold since we signed him and its no wonder Barca want him...sure he probably had that talent even before we signed him but we helped nurture that talent. So in that respect he does owe us...whether he does or not is up to him but its about time he put an end to all these rumours...if he wants to go then just bloody well say so...its not the end of the world for us if he does...just means Nasri et al will have to step up but i think he will stay another season to see if we win anything...even if we did win the EPL title i can still see him leaving us next season which is fair enough. But i honestly think because he knows he isnt going to get any first team football at Barca unless theres an injury...hes not said anything lately about Barca.

Anyhow other than the usual Barca foot stamping...not much has been said about Fabregas and his desire to go Barca this season...i guess we have a few more weeks left in the transfer window so lets see what happens.

Well a few pages ago you told me to look a few posts up and it said along the lines of your a utd fan i cant really remember....so who do you support?....So SAF was good before he went to utd? Wenger was good before he went to Arsenal?

Biz, don't pay too much attention to City related talk on here. There's a lot of bitterness towards City and people totally writing City off are in denial.

Whether City do go on to challenge or not remains to be seen, but they can't be written off with the squad they've got.

Spawn's an Arsenal fan, things like "we have made him (Fabregas) into the player he is today" are a bit of a clue. :)

And yes Sir Alex was already pretty good before he went to Manchester United - check out his record with Aberdeen, an unfashionable club in the SPL(Premier Division as it was then) and he managed to win the title 3 times there beating both the Old Firm as well as winning the UEFA Cup Winners Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. I reckon it's fair to say the boy can manage a bit.

Arsene Wenger did alright for himself as well, fewer titles but with the limited resources he did not bad in a couple of different leagues.

Finally someone talks sense...

That was Robboftw not me;)..but i support Arsenal.

Actually SAF was a very good manager before he went to Utd...he won plenty of titles whilst managing Aberdeen:

St. Mirren
Scottish First Division (1): 1976–77

Aberdeen
Scottish Premier Division (3): 1979–80, 1983–84, 1984–85
Scottish Cup (4): 1981–82, 1982–83, 1983–84, 1985–86
Scottish League Cup (1): 1985–86
UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (1): 1982–83
UEFA Super Cup (1): 1983

As for Wenger, hes won plenty before he came to Arsenal:

Monaco

Winner
Ligue 1 (1): 1987–88
Coupe de France (1): 1990–91
Runner-up
UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (1): 1991–92
Ligue 1 (3): 1990–91 1991–92 1992–93

Nagoya Grampus
Winner
Emperor's Cup (1): 1995
J-League Super Cup (1): 1996
Runner-up
J. League (1): 1996

Mancini has been successful as well in a largely weak Italian league...it will be interesting to see how long he lasts in the EPL and whether he wins anything or not....it might be a few yrs before City start winning things.
