Apparently it was on the front cover of Marca this morning that Real Madrid was about to sign him.... always good to get one over on the them whoever the **** he is :p

Ozil next please ;)

Despite not representing Portugal at full international level, Bebe has represented Portugal at the Homeless World Cup.

Bebe, as he is known, was raised in an orphanage having spent part of his childhood living on the streets.

He is a practicing Buddhist and claims that without it he wouldn't be alive today

Interesting chap..

He's our poor mans Ozil I guess.

Though, we could be pleasantly surprised, as we have been by Hernandez (so far, at least)

Shamikebab, 7.4m I think.

seven million?!?! I hope he turns out good but seems a lot to pay for a complete unknown. Guess this means no Ozil then, Fergie :(

According to Wiki we've signed him 5 weeks after he'd signed for them?? So he's only played in the Portuguese third division, never been capped....and yet cost a rumoured 7.4m?

Interesting...i too was extremely angry when he high fived Redknapp after the spurs game, and as much as i love him as a player like always his temper etc gets the better of him and so i expect him to be sold within in the next few weeks...and its good that were considering fining him because we need to show were not push overs (:p) and that a player who had a good season doesnt demand a place in the team etc and is free to talk to the press behind Mancini and City

Who the heck is Bebe and how much have we paid?

Looks like we've more or less signed both Brad Jones (~£2m) and Poulsen (~£5m); both deals could be finalised in time for them to be in the squad for Sunday. Obviously Poulsen is the replacement for Masch and I guess Jones' arrival signals the end of the road for Cavalieri.

It will be interesting to see who starts in midfield for us on Sunday. Poulsen may have only just signed (and be the weakest of the 3) but with Masch's departure almost a given and Lucas returnig late from International duty, he may get a start. Hopefully not and Hodgson isn't too proud to play Masch; I'm certain he wouldn't let us down if called to play and his importance to the team against the likes of Arsenal and then City away is huge.

Come to think of it; I don't like the idea of completing the Poulsen deal until Masch is gone at all. We can't afford to sign striking cover (or a LB), which is far more crucial, until Masch is sold and that looks like it's going to drag on. If Torres and Kuyt aren't ready to play on Sunday, we're going to be left with a situation of having just N'gog as our only striker but possibly 5 CM's.

There's whispers that the Crouch deal is all agreed but can't be finalised until Masch is sold. If that's the case then we should be looking at completing that deal first and leaving the Poulsen deal until Masch is gone.

Brad Jones? The Middlesbrough supporters are literally laughing at us. Another truly awful transfer to take us forward... :o

While it's not going to excite anybody, I can see the thinking behind the deal.

Brad Jones is no worse than Cavalieri and it's an easy way of bumping up your home grown quota without really effecting the strength of your team/squad.

Benitez tried similar things in the past couple of years; we had an offer for Steve Harper rejected and Maik Taylor turned us down as he didn't want to just sit on the bench.

Number 2 keepers are always a pain and even more so when Reina's your number 1. Nobody we bring in stands a chance of being picked ahead of Reina which makes it all but impossible of bringing in somebody of any real note.

Cavalieri's done a good job whenever he's been called upon. Doesn't complain about a lack of games, just gets on with it.

Jones is their first choice keeper and appears to be a laughing stock just as we are for trying to sign him. If supporters of a Championship side don't think he's good enough for them who the **** thinks he's good enough for us?

If he does join that'll almost certainly spell the end of one of the two other keepers and I wouldn't put it past the current shower to try and offload Reina.

The problem is we need to fill our home grown quota or end with a squad of just 22/23 senior players.

I'm certainly not unhappy with Cavalieri; i agree with everything you say about him. However he's not a top class keeper and from what I've seen of Jones, he wouldn't be a big step down if a step down at all (ignoring the fact that neither are likely to play).

Other than the possible Crouch deal, I can't see where else we can bring in a home grown player that wouldn't negatively effect the strength of the squad. Put it this way, I'd rather we signed Jones (at the cost of Cavalieri) than signed Konchesky.

edit: While I'd never rule out the possibility of our board/owners doing anything, Reina's not going anywhere.

edit2: I've just realised that Gulacsi's classed as home grown and imo, he's already as good as Cavalieri, if not better :/

Gulacsi will have to be 21 to be considered as a home grown player to be registered, will he not?
Not exactly. To be classed as home grown you've got to have spent at least 3 years in England before you're 21. A player can fulfil his home grown criteria and be under 21 however it's not relavent as all under 21's are eligble to play no matter if they're included in the squad or not.

My point was that by deciding on Gulasci as your number 2 keeper, you won't then need to pick Cavalieri in your 25 man squad which will free up another spot for another foreigner. Therefore we wouldn't need to sign Jones, unless of course you think he's better than Gulacsi (I don't).

As it stands we're already going to have to include some of our under-21 players in our 25 man squad (even though we don't need to) just to make up the numbers anyway.

edit: Come to think of it, this whole discussion's pretty irrelevant anyway as we've only got 15 players over the age of 21 that aren't home grown. With Masch and El Zhar likely to leave, that would allow us to bring in 4 non-home grown players without it effecting our squad.

After all that, I'm not totally against signing Brad Jones.
