In 130 apps for Arsenal he had 11 goals and 12 assists. Hardly set the world alight.

He was quite often the one that started the move off with a little run, not the one trying the final pass. He was a pretty solid player, would be a quality squad player for anyone in the premiership IMO

I like how you are describing a €15m player signed by Barcelona as a "Premiership reject".

:D

I was talking about him coming in as well as a striker and LB.

I wouldn't call Hleb a reject too; the season he left Arsenal he was 1 of their best players in their best season in a long time. Obviously he's not the player he was but his versatility (he played on either wing or off the striker) would make him a reasonable addition providing he's valued at no more then £2m.

Hleb is a reject, he was never even close to one of our best players, alongside Diaby he looked positively fantastic, but so would Grimandi, Cygan, Vivas and Jeffers.

Hleb is beyond crap and I have no idea what that guy is talking about, he often started off moves, no he didn't, he's better than Theo which isn't saying much, but about as useful, pass to him he'll run up the wing a bit and then turn and pass backwards, he rarely started attacking moves and would normally score the majority of his goals and assists in the first 5 games of the season then dissappear. I think people think he's good purely because at that stage Wenger was dropping people who were crap. Hleb was(as I said back then) a complete change in Wenger, backing players who were utter crap assuming they'd eventually come good. People took Wengers backing as proof he was quality.

I think since then we've realised someone willing to consistantly play Diaby, Hleb, Theo, Ade(for hugely long periods he wasn't trying, and also hitting own our players), Denilson, etc, etc, this isn't the same Wenger and beyond Wenger picking him there was little indicating he was good.

The fact that he was just laughed out of Barca, and Stuttgart wouldn't want him even for a few million really says who he should be going to. He's someone a Bolton, or Wolves should be going for.

If you got anything less than £25mil for Masch + Hleb you'll be being ripped off.

He's probably on a decent wage, but he can't have more than 2 years on his contract can he, so I'm sure he'd be happy to accept hugely lower wages rather than have no contract in a year or two.

Really can't believe if that story about Ibrahimovic is true. We're all doomed :(

I hope Man City's sheik leaves them in two years and the club gets into horrendous debt after not being able to continue it's ridiculous wage structure.

City are going to be losing money year on year, and it's only because this guy has virtually infinite funds that it won't make any bit of difference.

I would HIGHLY doubt that we have offered that for him....as much as Mancini i bet would want him..no way would the sheik have sanctioned that kind of offer....and bayo000 it better not be lol then again its £154 for a season ticket so i will just get one of them :p,Now i didnt like Ireland before but now hes asking for a 2m payout  i think hes a bit bitter and hes trying to delay the transfer which is a bit selfish really....

hehe it's got to be a load of old cobblers...I mean you've already seen the knock-on effect of paying Yaya Touré a reported £220k a week - which is a young unproven Balotelli supposedly demanding £180k a week in negotiations! If City were going to be mad enough to pay Ibrahimovic this £500k, there's no way the other players would tolerate him being on a salary that's more than double the nearest player!
This'd result in the hilarious situation where you would be paying someone like Adebarndoor £300k to look disinterested or the rubbish SWP £200k to sit on a bench and feed his playstation addiction in his spare time.

I'd like to find the reporter who dreamt up the 500k figure and liberally slap him about the face with fish.

I imagine what Ireland is demanding is something to do with a loyalty clause that most pros have inserted into their contracts now. It basically means they'd be eligible for a £xx mil bonus after say 3 years if they didn't leave the club. When a player is forced out against their wishes or has it made clear to them they have no future at the club, as in this instance, then they are within their rights to demand that the club performs on the contract.

I see where your coming from Gooner but i think hes had enough from us....had a big contract gifted to him when he had his best season and since then hasnt done anything to deserve 2m....

Shocked at what people think of Hleb. His ability on the ball is staggering and he's technically better than any Liverpool player (as I believe he was at Arsenal), he was my favourite player whilst at Arsenal, he's the type of footballer you pay to watch, an absolute pleasure to watch. True quality.

when we had Hleb, Rosicky, Van Persie and Cesc in the team all at once we used to play some obscenely pretty stuff. Maybe too pretty, he did used to frustrate me a little if I'm honest in the way that he wouldn't shoot. Technically though he was awesome, and you only have to look at some of the goals he scored in Germany to see his class.
Him on one flank and Joe Cole on the other would be good for Liverpool! I'd much rather have him than Kuyt at any rate if I was a Liverpool fan.

I think it was obvious Barca bought him to be a squad player as backup to either the Iniesta role or one of the wide attacking players, so that he hasn't played much there shouldn't detract from him.

I'd rather have him than Joe Cole also tbh.

I'd welcome Flamini and Hleb back. Also he had problems in Spain off the field which ruined his chances there, as well as trying to break into the best midfield in the world
