Davids deal will be relatively cheap I think - he just wants to play football I reckon.

Fulham set to sign Halliche soon, just paper work to be done - and still a 'few' more names that Hughes is after.

Loaning out Aquilani is lunacy. Like Pigeon said, he was excellent towards the back end of last season and with a full pre-season under his belt he was only going to get better.

I really don't understand the logic in signing Poulsen for £4.5m and then shipping Aquilani out on loan. With Lucas (although not his best position) and quite possibly Masch still being with us this season, we've got 2 players ahead of Poulsen in the dm spot pecking order yet one genuine attack minded CM in Gerrard.

Wenger: "You have to turn somewhere else and now we trust Koscielny, [Johan] Djourou, [Thomas] Vermaelen and [Alex] Song."

I find it bizarre that Wenger hasn't signed more than Koscielny, he's let go of 4 CBs; Gallas, Senderos, Silvestre and Campbell. Even with Squillaci they're looking short in numbers, if Wenger is likely to play Song at the back their midfield will look decidedly weak against Blackpool. Charlie Adam to tear them a new one. ;)

Not long until the end of the transfer window. Looks like we are only going to get one new CB...shame we arent getting at least two and a gk :(

Ideal scenario is we will sign Squillaci and then another Defensive-minded player (DMF/CB). I don't really see it happening though... under Arsene we are notoriously slow negotiators and reluctant to spend money.

I think what'll happen is we sign one more defender (be it Squillaci or any of the names we've been linked with) and then look to do as best we can with youth players as backup... I can only presume that Wenger is ready to use players like Nordtveit, Eastmond or even Evina (sadly Frimpong copped a nasty injury) to cover the defensive midfield/centre-back roles. Now they might do OK against some of the lesser lights, so perhaps Wenger's parsimony is prudent. However if any of those players are forced into action in big games we will struggle, and there are a lot of 'big' games this season given Spurs & Man City's strength (not to mention Villa or Everton)...

Also if we sign Schwarzer and Fulham get Given, I will be distraught, I might even defect and become a yid :D

and re Aquilani, I cannot believe they are loaning him out! What a terrible piece of business for Liverpool FC he has been... the turd-under-the-floorboards that Rafa left as a parting gift...

How dare you question our transfer policy. You might as well hold a 'Roy Out Banner' outside Anfield!

:p

How long is the loan rumoured to be? If it's 6 months, that could end up working out better for Liverpool anyway (league wise).

Reportedly 12 months. It makes no sense whatsoever, no matter what way you look at it.

We're spending £4.5m and losing an attacking midfielder (leaving us with just Gerrard) but gaining a much older defensive midfielder when we already have 2 players better than him in that position.

If it was till January I could see the sense, get him some playing time after injuries, and see where he'll fit in to the new system. If its 12 months, I can't see it happening unless they sign someone - for a decent enough fee anyway. I guess the replacement for Gerrard is Cole...so if both are injured you're buggered? That does depend if Gerrard is playing deeper or more attacking.

Cole won't play CM as part of a 2. If Gerrard's injured we'll be left with 2 from Lucas, Poulsen and Masch (if still here) and although Lucas can do a job, he's far less likely to open a team up than Gerrard or Aquilani is.

IF Aquilani isn't playing well, whats the point of paying him wages when you don't have to.

I think Liverpool fans are rather over reaching when they say Aquilani was excellent at the end of the season, he was rather average, a couple nice passes coupled with being absolutely hounded on the ball, he didn't like being rushed at all and really only looked half decent against less good opposition, he was spraying passes, to no one in particular.

In his year there, he looked slow, slow to make decisions, prone to losing posession without anywhere near the creative edge to his game required or the workrate/movement required in a premier league team. Bad business by pool/rafa, keeping an expensive player on high wages just because he was expensive hoping he might come good is worse business. If in 6 months he improves, gets more consistant, maybe fully gets back from his injury you get a better player and 6 months lower wages to boot, if he still sucks, you know its time to cut loose.

Wenger seems to be saying that with Djourou back one more signing has us back where we were last season and thinks that is great for us...... The problem was because of his severe dislike for resting in form players, we ended up with both CB's injured at the back end of the season(for the 10th season in a row) and the backup simply wasn't good enough, Djourou is ruddy awful, we need some youngsters, along the lines of Evans/Pique in the last few years, promising, maybe able to step up in the future and not the best backup ever when they start but show a lot of promise.

Djourou is long past the age you realise a player has the potential to be a top 4 club defender or not, he's no where near, and lets be honest, I give him 3 months max before he picks up a half season long injury, which will put us with less cover than we had last year.

Gooners are also making excuses , Gallas you know, sat down, after one game, came out with some truth about the team in the press to shake them up, which worked pretty well and got the team playing better after a slump, and some people don't like him.......... so we don't care he left.

he was by quite a margin our best defender last year, and over the past 4 years, asides from his first year where he never quite got over his injury, he's been injury free till the end of long years he rarely gets a break from, the same as every other player in the team, problem with Gallas? Or problem with the team/training/lack of rotation/medical staff.

He's not played under 40 games in a season since 01/02, excluding his first season at chelsea he played 49/47/61/50 games, at Arsenal he's played 41/43/53/40 games.

He was one of Chelsea's most solid and reliable players, winning titles, and has been one of our best players every year. He's a huge miss to the team, and I don't even know, has really anyone in the team won anything now except Fabregas with France?

Weird deal for liverpool. When fit I thought he was alright.
He was. Took him a long time to return to full fitness but when he started he usually did well for us. Near the end of the season he managed 6 assists and 2 goals in 7 starts in the Premiership. He did look a mile off the pace at times but he was still adjusting to the speed of the Premiership and life in England. Now he's adjusted and raring to go we loan him out :(

To think a few seasons ago we had Gerrard, Mascherano and Alonso as our three in midfield. As BaZ said, if Gerrard gets injured we'll be left with with Poulsen, Lucas and Cole.

IF Aquilani isn't playing well, whats the point of paying him wages when you don't have to.

We'r also paying 100% of AA's wages. lol :(
So in effect, we gave away AA and agreed to pay his wages, paid Juve 1m and paying all of CP's wages.
Not bad for a club in financial crisis.

If Masch now leaves (Looking less likely though) we'r now down to Gerrard, Lucas and CP () as midfielders. Mid table, here we come!

We're not going to be paying his wages if he's gone to Juve. They'll pay his wages and most likely pay some sort of loan fee to take him for the year.

Only relaying the info i have heard.
And that is, RH wants to see what he's like next year pre-season after playing (Injury free, hopefully) but is un-willing to risk him in the PL this year.
So we are paying 100% of his wages and loaning him to Juve, with the condition he plays 35 games.

Take with a pinch of salt sure, but sounds likely.

I think some idiot on RAWK has just come out with some random bs. Even we're not stupid enough to let a £17m player go out on loan without getting something in return.

Villa paid us £2m to take Carson for a year, based on that we should be getting about £15m for Aquilani :p

edit: Yes, some idiot on RAWK is talking out his ****.
