Please this is Ronaldo all over again, and being a United fan who knows how that turned out it's always been a matter of when not if with Fabregas and Arsenal's lack of public reply since this story broke speaks volumes

He's always wanted out of Arsenal and although it had looked like he was going to stick around for one more season it looks like he's decided he wants to move now and like we had with Ronaldo when you know a player wants to play elsewhere what's the point in delaying the inevitable

I'll be staggered if he's still at Arsenal next season now
Don't be so confident about that. The only "lead" at the moment is coming from a journalist based in Barcelona. That is obviously going to make the whole speculation biased.

At this rate the likes of Spurs, Villa, Everton & Liverpool might actually have a chance of breaking into the top 4 next season

Erm Spurs DID break into the top four

I wont believe it until something official comes out from the club but I think Nasri could easily step into Fabregas's boots. I am not saying he will be as good, I have just been impressed with him when he has got a chance to start in that midfield role.

Other than old quotes, anyone seen anything new that Fabregas has quoted?

I wonder who will get the next kiss of death captains armband :p

Nasri could step into Fabregas's boots, so could, Djourou, the problem is Nasri is worse, just less bad than Djourou would be as a replacement.

Our first 11 is entirely incapable of beating the top teams and therefore winning any titles right now, dropping the best player in the first 11 for someone else ALREADY IN that first 11, pretty much brings Nasri in from the right wing to the middle and pushes , under Wenger, Theo into a consistant starting spot.

Its not Fabregas to Nasri, its Fabregas, to Theo, and a simply ridiculous drop in quality, from a starting 11 who already are not good enough. There isn't a player in the league who can replace his assists, few who could score as many as he did this year, Nasri certainly won't, neither will Rosicky, or Arshavin, or Ramsey or Walcott.

As with Utd, you can easily lose one great player if you put someone half decent in his place and increase the quality of the rest of the squad to compensate. IE our current starting 11 including Fabregas wouldn't be as effective as a team with Buffon over Almunia, Diarra over Song, Ireland instead of Diaby, Eboue over Sagna, a proper CB and a real winger or two.

The problem is, as it has been for 4 years, is that Wenger thinks Diaby, Denilson, Song, Djourou, Theo are good enough. The massive problem is, managers don't replace players who they think are great, and why would they. The problem is his complete inability to see how useless Theo, Diaby, Denilson, Sagna are, and if he won't replace them with better players we can't improve and as he probably won't, Fabregas's loss will kill us completely.

rumours today of barca bidding 80mill for rooney!!

Thats just rubbish, literally, Ronaldo wanted to leave because Spain is (almost) his home country and Real are the team he wanted to play for as a kid, Fabregas is actually from Spain and has supported Barca and played with many of the guys there since he was a kid. Rooney doesn't, he doesn't support Real, or Barca, he'll have no deep seeded wish to play in Spain, to speak/learn Spanish, his wife and kids won't want to be in Spain and he's at the club he wants to finish his career at.

Unless he's literally shoved out the door, theres no reason for him to go.

This season they did but I doubt they'll manage to juggle both league and champions league next season especially with City sure to strengthen

Although when Arsenal lose Fabregas & Gallas there will be an opening there

They still wont be BREAKING into the top four if they are already there though will they :p

You mean it will help Spurs keep their place.

I hope he doesnt leave but I dont think it will be the end of the world for arsenal. I think I will be more gutted if we only get £30m for him.

Four years on his contract and one of the best players in the world in that position with plenty of time to only get better. £30m? I do hope Wenger puts his foot down.

Anyone who knows Arsenal, or who has seen anything of them for the last few seasons, knows that they can operate with a thread-bare squad. Its happened time and time again because of the ridiculous injury situation. Its been a great achievement to finish third this season with the injuries we have had. Reading a lot of your posts in the last page or two is like reading Marca.

Fabregas is our best player, and will be a loss, but not one that the club cannot recover from. This happens at every club and in 40 years time when Fab is lying by the pool with a pot belly, Arsenal will still be Arsenal and still be playing top flight football if the last 100 years or so are anything to go by.

It'll be a set-back of course, but the way the squad is currently set up, it can cope with this type of thing as proven by our injury record (yes I know other teams have had injuries, but honestly nothing like Arsenal). In fact it would probably be better that he went this summer. It would be more disruptive for him to stay if he feels as strongly as the reliable Balague suggests.

He goes, we move on, thats life. I'd be more worried as a ManU fan with Fergie's comments about transfers tbh as they will be chasing the coat-tails of not only Chelsea but Man City as well.

I can only see City being the big spenders this season. All the greedy not quite greats will be coming over. And that will keep the prices high on the players which means no new ones for Arsenal or Utd. Hopefully that puts up Fabregas's price :D

I think Chelsea will spend a few bob, maybe one big signing. They don't need to though really tbh.

You know what we are like, we don't really spend big. I would imagine we will replace both Gallas and Fab, but probably 10-15mil for a defender and 15-20mil for a midfielder. Both signings will probably be typically Arsene but not typical for everyone else.

I would be very surprised if Wenger spent 10 - 15m on a defender and 15 to 20m on a midfielder. More like 10 - 15m on both ;)

Dont worry our team is full of potential :D

I would be suprised myself but I think if Fab does go, he needs to show real ambition as the fans will not put up with a 5-10mil replacement for Fab. Wasn't Vermaelan about 10mil?

Yeah he was around £10m. But how many seasons have we needed a new CB and we only just got one last year. With Gallas and Silvestra going and some of our promising CB's going out on loan next season I think we need a few now.

Before there was talk of Fabregas leaving I thought we were going to need three of four players. Now I see it as needing five or six. Not just starting 11 but some strength on the bench as well.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but with a reasonably fit squad, we don't need a lot.

We did need a CB regardless but I thought we'd only get one even with Gallas going. A 'keeper (although I'd be surprised) seems a big want but other than Chamakh, I didn't expect a lot else.
