Thats why imo Cesc will be (reasonably) cheap - because Arsenal have won ****** with him

If/when he moves he will probably assist the side he goes to , to win huge amounts - but even in the inflated market now Arsenal would be lucky to get £40m

Im not saying its worth double the fee - but Ronaldo was so expensive because he had already won everything with Man Utd - and some many times, plus Golden Boot etc etc etc (and even a little bit of the fee may have been because of RM's previous management being such ****'s previously)

Barca (as much as Ive seen anyway) have always been honourable with transfer targets and never said a word about them

You've got to question what this news will do to the likes of Van Persie and even new signing Chamakh, when they see the clubs best player and their main hope if they're going to win anything leaving they're surely going to question their future?

Without Fabregas Arsenal's midfield is shockingly weak; Song, Diaby, Denilson, Ramsey, Wilshire all promising young players but none are ready to step it up IMO and fill the gap a player like Fabregas will leave. Cant see many goals or assists in that midfield tbh! Then you've got a past it Rosicky, a wantaway Arshavin, Walcott who is probably the least consistent player in the league & Nasri who's hardly much a match winner.

Seems Arsenal fix one problem area up front by getting in Chamakh only to leave another position need fixing and that's without mentioning the shocking options in goal & defence especially with Gallas (who everyone at Arsenal seems to hate anyway) leaving this summer as well.

At this rate the likes of Spurs, Villa, Everton & Liverpool might actually have a chance of breaking into the top 4 next season

In other news...

Skysports.com understands Manchester City have tabled a big money offer for Aston Villa winger James Milner.

The England international enjoyed a sparkling 2009/10 campaign, considerably raising his profile.

Reports in January speculated that a number of top clubs were keeping tabs on the talented 24-year-old, with it widely believed that there is still more to come from him in the future.

City have now made the first move, and it is believed that Roberto Mancini is willing to part with around £20million to take the reigning PFA Young Player of the Year to Eastlands.

It is easy to understand why the Blues are so keen on the former Leeds and Newcastle man, as he has just finished his most productive season to date.

A respectable return of 12 goals from midfield marks him out as a useful addition to any side, while his versatility can also prove priceless.

Milner is able to operate on either flank or at full-back, while he blossomed in the centre of midfield for Villa since being shifted inside by Martin O'Neill.

He has been included in Fabio Capello's preliminary squad for this summer's World Cup and is widely regarded as a shoo-in to make the final cut.

Villa have yet to respond to the offer on the table from City but will be reluctant to part with their key performers.

Unfortunately for O'Neill, there are plenty of other teams rumoured to be ready to make a move and he could be in for a busy summer.

Premier League champions Chelsea are also said to be keen on Milner and they could be tempted to chance their arm in an effort to prevent one of their rivals from strengthening their squad.

Personally I think if City want to be taken seriously then they need to be looking at better players than Milner, whilst he had a good season he's hardly a player opposition teams are going to fear playing against.

When I was coming home from work I was listening to TalkSport and they were actually talking like we were about to make a bid for him but to be honest I cant see where in ours or Chelsea's team he'd actually get a game. I reckon a team like Liverpool would be his limit, at City he's not good enough to play centrally and for them to compete for the title and on the wings he's not as much as a talent as Johnson or Di Maria who they've also been linked with.

It's like when they signed Barry last season, these kinds of player will make them a better PL team but if they want to break into the top 4 and even compete for the title then they need to look a little further a field unless they're going to really go mad and sign up the likes of Gerrard to really make their midfield something to fear

Milner is better than Fabregas according to the awards. :p

Also, I think people are jumping the gun a bit with Fabregas leaving - I haven't seen him say anything that would make you think he want's out this season. It just seems like the media doing their thing, and this time they have everyone believing it.

I think he will still be at Arsenal at the end of the transfer window.

Please this is Ronaldo all over again, and being a United fan who knows how that turned out it's always been a matter of when not if with Fabregas and Arsenal's lack of public reply since this story broke speaks volumes

He's always wanted out of Arsenal and although it had looked like he was going to stick around for one more season it looks like he's decided he wants to move now and like we had with Ronaldo when you know a player wants to play elsewhere what's the point in delaying the inevitable

I'll be staggered if he's still at Arsenal next season now

Well i dont know but SSN this morning were reporting that Barca have made an official statement about their intent on signing Fabregas...in fact they had some spanish woman talking about it ie saying something that Barca officials will be meeting Wenger later this week or early next week to discuss the transfer.

I guess its just a waiting game now to see what happens...Fabregas himself has said he sees himself at Barca at some point and tbh id just rather he kept his mouth shut or say something along the lines of its not going to happen anytime soon etc.

I think Milner is pretty damn good and only getting better.

What's his best position though?

I certainly dont think he's a centre midfielder and if he is I'm not convinced he's good enough to replace Scholes, Fletcher or Carrick, not in terms of passing anyway.

If he's a wide player then I dont think he's good enough to displace Nani or Valencia.

Likewise I dont see him getting in ahead of Lampard, Essien, Mikel & Malouda at Chelsea.

Maybe I'm being harsh on the lad but dispite the season he's just had I find it hard to see where he'd fit in at United or Chelsea

And we had it year or year with Henry and Vieira and it didn't happen each of those years. In fact the main source for the Fabregas rumour is the same person (Guillem Balague) who said Vieira was going to Real Madrid "100%"

If a club came out an denied every rumour they would be there all day.

The difference was neither of those really wanted to go and Arsenal were still winning things back then. Cesc seems to have his heart set on Barca and Arsenal are winning nowt.

I'd take Milner ahead of all 3 of them. He's not a spectacular player by any means but he's more than handy on the right and has become a very good CM.

Please Milner better than Scholes? Never in a million billion years.

Scholes 5 years ago maybe but he's 36 now vs Milner who is 12 years younger, I think it's fair to say Milner would be the better signing :p

I swear the Spanish clubs use Guillem Balague as a means of announcing a team's interest in a player. He seems to know everything there is to know about the transfer activity at the likes of Barca and Real, and I can't imagine either of those teams allowing him access to such info, and to then speak about it so openly unless they wanted him to.

lol fergie saying he might not make anymore signings, nothing for man u again next season then.

With the market the way it is you can understand why but the team isn't good enough to win anything. Chelsea for the title again.

Unfortunately the team with the most money will win eventually, it happened with Chelsea and it'll happen with City. If Man City go around spending 25 million and upwards on each player then of course they will win. United's only chance is to find more signings like Evra and Vidic or youngsters that we can develop into top players.

To be honest from watching a few vids that Hernandez striker looks to be a decent signing, hopefully he will settle in quick. And if (BIG if) Berba picks his game up next season then Man U should be OK up front.

The only position worrying me is in midfield - Nani cant yet be counted on to be consistent, Carrick has had poor season, Scholes/Giggs can be good on their day, and although Valencia has had a good first season, we really need 1 more midfielder, who can change games, create things out of nothing..like a Ronaldo :p just to give us that extra 'edge' in games..
