If Cesc goes this summer then I see our new captain as being Robin van Persie. I really, really doubt Cesc is going though, Arsene will do everything he can to hold onto him and if anyone can persuade him to stay for another season then Wenger can. If he does go however, it won't be the end of the world, he's the best young central midfielder in the world at the moment and at 23 has already played almost 300 games for us and obviously he'll be a big blow to us if he does leave, but that's not to say we're going to completely implode.

Look what happened when a lot of the invincibles left and we had barely anyone who you would call world class to step into their boots, yet we didn't end up a mid table team, we still carried on qualifying and playing in the Champion League year after year with mediocre players that Wenger stood by, some of them came good, some of them turned out to be total cack but in all we still stayed up there.

I think this time will be no different and if Cesc does leave then we should be demanding at least 48 million for him. Man City are willing to pay £24,000,000 for Milner and if Barcelona want Cesc then we deserve double that for him. They have argued that he was their youth player and that means they don't have to pay more than £30,000,000 for him, well sorry but he isn't Barca's youth player anymore, he's an Arsenal man and Wenger has turned him into the player his is now. If he goes, we won't have as many problems as everyone thinks, we'll have a large amount of money and if Wenger spends it properly, with real world class players then we have a chance of at least competing with Chelsea and Man Utd, if he ****es it all away on youth players or doesn't spend any of it then frankly he deserves to be sacked.

Seems like Fabregas has said to Wenger he wants out:(...shame really and im disappointed in him with his lack of loyalty but then he wants to win things so cant blame him...if he does go then good luck to him and hope he enjoys riding the bench at Barca but at least he will win things. Looks like Barca have also signed Villa for £42mill...he passed his medical today according to the papers this morning.

Hopefully we will get big money for him...anything less than £50mill and ill be disappointed in all honesty...its a big loss for us as hes out best player by far but im hopeful that Wenger replaces him with someone who will be as good as him.

As for Utd...£76mill extra debt due to the interest on the loans they have now....Fergie saying its going to be a very quiet summer so i dont expect Utd to make any big signings this summer according to SSN this morning.

lol fergie saying he might not make anymore signings, nothing for man u again next season then.

With the market the way it is you can understand why but the team isn't good enough to win anything. Chelsea for the title again.

He always says that, to try to make out he hasn't got money before wasting/spending 30 million. No one takes him seriously anymore.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but with a reasonably fit squad, we don't need a lot.

Reasonably fit and Arsenal dont go well together anymore. I think ever since we moved from Highbury we have had a terrible time with injuries.

I think we have a big enough squad but we dont have a big enough squad because of the injury prone players we have. I cant think of a player that has come through the season without a injury less than four weeks this season.

I think there have been hints that we are looking at the medical staff in the summer. Wouldn't be surprised to see some change here.

Its a shame that we go into every season now though expecting the worst. K1LLSW1TCH mentioned RvP as captain and thats a nailed on should Fab go but how many games will he play.

I've given a few of my insights but I don't think any of us can really comment on what looks like, or what might, or what is going to happen because all we've had is deliberately planted information from Barca. Arsenal haven't said anything and we've only been able to find out what Barca has wanted us to find out. The only thing we've heard from Cesc himself is that he is more than happy at Arsenal but when he does leave he wants to play for Barcelona which we all knew. Anyway fellow gooners, if he does go, we can all gather round and do a bit of this:

Dont think Fabregas going will cause me to cry lol although ill be pretty disappointed in seeing him go but theres no point in keeping him if he doesnt want to stay ie keeping him might cause him not to play with all his heart which he does when he steps onto the field for us and id rather not take that chance.

Saying that SSN are reporting that no official approach has been made for Fabregas by Barca, which might be a good thing but then Fabregas is rumoured to have told Wenger he wants to go...so theres no concrete word as to what is happening.

The only concrete thing thats happened regarding Barca is that they have signed David Villa for £42mill and hes having or had his medical today. Good signing for Barca, plenty of firepower now with Messi in the lineup...ill roffle hard if Torres jumps Liverspuds and goes there...thats too much firepower for Barca and they will smash everyone in their way:p.

I know little of the Barca finances but maybe that 42mil means an approach for Fab is less likely.

Hmmmm SSN now reporting that Barca arent going to make an approach for Fabregas....one of the directors at Barca is saying that its great Fab wants to come but they will and have to respect what Arsenal want and also Fabs contract etc etc.

Seems like some Barca people are saying things on the internet and various blog sites about Fabregas.

But one thing is for sure that at the moment Barca have not made any official approach for Fabregas yet....so again the media is doing what they are good at...whipping up a frenzy.

Seems like Yaya doesnt want to come to Arsenal either so maybe thats why Barca arent making an official approach for Fabregas.

Take that as you will but im confident that Fab will be with us for another season...fingers crossed.

:)

We had a chance to sign Yaya Toure for £500,000 at the beginning of his career but apparently he didn't impress, like when we had Ibrahimovic for a bit. Oh and just watching the best goals of the season and seeing a few stunners from Cesc, I will definitely cry if he leaves! :( :p

Anyone who knows Arsenal, or who has seen anything of them for the last few seasons, knows that they can operate with a thread-bare squad. Its happened time and time again because of the ridiculous injury situation. Its been a great achievement to finish third this season with the injuries we have had. Reading a lot of your posts in the last page or two is like reading Marca.

Fabregas is our best player, and will be a loss, but not one that the club cannot recover from. This happens at every club and in 40 years time when Fab is lying by the pool with a pot belly, Arsenal will still be Arsenal and still be playing top flight football if the last 100 years or so are anything to go by.

It'll be a set-back of course, but the way the squad is currently set up, it can cope with this type of thing as proven by our injury record (yes I know other teams have had injuries, but honestly nothing like Arsenal). In fact it would probably be better that he went this summer. It would be more disruptive for him to stay if he feels as strongly as the reliable Balague suggests.

He goes, we move on, thats life. I'd be more worried as a ManU fan with Fergie's comments about transfers tbh as they will be chasing the coat-tails of not only Chelsea but Man City as well.

No one said you couldn't recover from Fabregas leaving, the only thing I'm saying is that without him you're a decidedly average team and one that would struggle to continue finishing in the champions league positions. Your midfield would be devoid of any goals and more importantly creativity

As for United we're fine, with all our defensive injuries this past season and the fact that we lost arguably the best player in the world prior to the seasons start we only actually finished 1 point ahead of this all conquering Chelsea side. True we need a striker and a creative midfielder but we're still much better placed than Arsenal, Liverpool or City (the latter especially if the best they can attract is the likes of Milner from Villa)

So the mighty football luminary Balague may be wrong again?

lol

That is all.

LOL goes to show just how much he knows about Arsenal.

If i was a Utd fan id be worried that Fergie is saying they wont be signing anyone and when Foster goes they wont be replacing him either...i guess the extra £76mill that has accrued because of existing loans is really hindering their future:p....with the likes of City and Chelski i cant see Utd challenging for the prem title anytime soon and they may well turn out to be another Liverspuds in the making.

And Barca have just completed the signing of David Villa for 40mill euros.

Exactly. :p

I don't mouth off about Man Utd being carried totally by Rooney to make up for their utter ****e midfield of cloggers and has-beens but this joker seems to think that our midfield will have no creativity if we lost Cesc this summer (which we won't). Just shows how many times he's actually watched Arsenal play a game.

LOL probably....dont know why he spouts off such nonsense but i guess it keeps him in a job.

With Ballague he throws so much bull**** that occasionally some of it has to stick purely on ratio's.

If it does emerge that Barca have got Villa for 40mil that's ****ing scary....
The top spanish clubs' power in the transfer market is a bit much at the moment, I can't see how the rest of europe is going to keep up.
People are saying that after shelling out that much, they wouldn't be able to afford Cesc too for a similar fee...but they comfortably would. ARGH.

This has pretty much been proven rubbish to be frank. Yes he has been our best player, but, imo of course, players like Arshavin, RvP, Vermaelan, Clichy, Sagna, Campbell, Walcott, Nasri and Song are far from average. Some Arsenal fans may try to convince us otherwise, but its nonsense. Even Bendtner has contributed to the season and at times even the much hated Diaby showed some good form, mainly the period before the Barca games.

Their form has been up and down admittedly, but no more so than other PL players. All of those players have also spent long periods out injured which brings us back to our main problem, injuries.

I'm not worried at all about next season, Fab or not. I still see us challenging next season, no question. Are we the strongest team? No. But then not every team can be.

I'm less convinced by ManU as I said and their heavy reliance on Rooney if they don't spend money.
