Liverpool just seem to be a dire mess at the moment. :(

Its obvious Hodgson is being shafted endlessly by the board.
So was Rafa but the media, a lot of ex Liverpool players, Houghton (big ****), Whelan (bigger ****) & Redknapp (biggest ****) and most non Liverpool supporters chose to blame him for our failings. He was the glue that held the club together and as soon as H&G removed him it was obvious what was going to happen. Unfortunately no amount of sales will get them out of the hole they've dug for themselves but they've kept trying to offload our players.

I've got this weird mental image of Liverpool's transfer policy as being akin to attempting to hold a glassfuls worth of mercury in your cupped hands - you can just watch the players slipping through the gaps in your fingers, all the while hoping someone will put a bucket beneath to catch what would otherwise spill (that's the closure of the transfer window to continue the analogy).

Can't be much fun for Liverpool fans at the moment.

More like Purslow pouring the glass of mercury out of the window and Hodgson desperately trying to catch it in his hands.

The club can't think about moving forward until we're sold and we swapped the best man that could have held things together until then for Hodgson. Well swapped isn't the right word, we actually paid £8m.

I've always appreciated Kuyt for Liverpool, but he looked awful against City (and most of last season). If we could get £15m for him at 30 years old and spend it on Tovoinen and Ben Arfa, I would do that deal.

Trouble is none of that £15m would get reinvested in the team so it's not a good deal :(

Unless Hodgson is incredibly naive then I think he knew full well that he'll be nothing more than a coach. You'd have to be an idiot to believe any guarantees from our board.

I'm sure he'll have some sort of say regarding transfers but it will be far from the final say.

I suppose he could have hoped that a sale would have gone through relatively quickly, then after that he'd've been kept on as manager, in a better working/footballing environment.

Where he'd be shortly out of the door as new owners always eventually bring their own man in.

edit: From Hodgson's point of view it's a no lose situation. If he does well he could keep the job longterm or at worst he'll put himself in contention for other big jobs. And if things don't go to plan, he'll have no problem walking back into another Fulham size club. No disrespect to Fulham btw.
I see Fulham are signing Salcido, I think that's a really good deal, has always played well when I've seen him.

And signals the arrival of Konchesky to Liverpool :o

I would hope his role is limited to selecting which players he would like to bring in because I'm not happy with the attempts that have been made to push the likes of Insua, Lucas and Ngog out of the club.

Whoever is making those decisions is only concentrating on today and not the future of the club. They're looking to raise as much money as possible without having to sell an established player.

If it is Hodgson that's making the calls then it's clear he doesn't think he'll be around in 2 or 3 years time.

edit: Saying that, Hodgson is known for choosing experience over youth anyway.

Not totally, we only have one left back at the club (apart from a youngster, and someone who can play there). If Konchesky goes it's a good signing for Liverpool, he's a cheaper version of Cole really (married with kids though :p). Very good attacking, and good defending. We would probably get £6-8m if he wasn't in his last year of his contract. Since signing for us, he's probably only had a few bad games, and I can't really remember any tbh.

Salcido would be a good signing, reported for £1.5m.

Yup, and if he can sign someone who can easily slot in at left back, and then possibly get money come a takeover, he'll have a very good backup regardless.

You've seen more of him than me obviously but I don't see Konchesky as anything more than a steady player.

It's a worry that we're looking to let go a lot of promising youngsters and replacing them with journeymen.

It's not a definite yet, especially if we don't get yet another left back we won't sell (on top of Salcido);

"He is a player that I think will help us in terms of his flexibility and his ability to play a number of positions.

"That's important for us and hopefully we can conclude that one."

Hughes added: "We are looking to have quality in all positions. Left-back is a position we are a little light in.

"It is not a foregone conclusion that Paul Konchesky goes because we are looking to bring someone else in."

From Mark Hughes.

Would have thought with Insua, Aurelio and youngsters you'd be fine, although with injury problems with Aurelio I guess you would need another for the long season.

What's the reason for Konchesky being left out of your squad today if he's not being sold? Looking at the team you put out today, it was more or less full strength.

As for our LB needs; you can't afford to have only 2 possible LB's if Aurelio is one of them. We've got a young french lad in the reserves who's being highly spoke about but he's played mainly as a CB and only the other day said he wants to leave because he's upset with Hodgson not considering him.

Ideally we'd keep Insua, have Aurelio on a pay as you play deal and bring in another LB or somebody who can at least cover LB. Unfortunately Insua's being pushed out as he's seen as an easy £5m that won't upset the fans too much.

He came back from an injury for the Utd game, we left out Simon Davies too. Of course it could be to sort out details, but Hughes has said we'll be hard pushed to sign more players come the end of the window, and just signing Salcido won't be enough for left back, considering we only have Konchesky, Briggs (first game today), and Kelly who is a natural right back.

We'll have to wait and see I guess but when a manager is willing to name a target, more often than not it means the deal is close to completion.

Either he's telling the fans what we want to hear then going behind our backs which makes him a **** or he's telling the fans one thing and the board are going behind his back which makes him look like a ****.

Hoping to see Fabiano confirmed soon then if the rumours were correct.

Take what you will from 'Arry's comments at the end of the qualifier earlier but he did mention he didn't know why people kept saying Spurs were in for everybody, and that he only has his reputation of buying and selling because of the clubs he's been affiliated with in the past. Personally I think Spurs need defenders and maybe a new forward, especially now that they're going to have more games to play in.
