Baz probably knows more then me but I heard it's close to Liverpool's valuation of £25 million :)

My Liverpool supporting "friend" just texted me :)

Edit, BBC are saying the same.

Reportedly we told Masch that they'll only stick to their agreement and allow him to leave if they receive an offer of ~£25m. That's a long way short of what we valued him at last summer.

As above, in many respects our hands were tied. Sell him now for ~£25m or in 1 years time (when he'll only have a year on his deal) for half that.

edit: a lot of people on here were knocking City over the Bellamy transfer but as I said at the time, it was actually good to see. Players have far too much power in transfer dealings these days and there's nothing clubs can do about it.

As i said, its £18m upfront and £6m in conditions that im hearing from all my usual minions (:p) associated with the club.

Good deal for Barca :( Sell Yaya and buy a superior player, and end up in profit.

Great deal from Barca's point of view.

Never used to rate Masch, but my opinion on him changed over the last couple of seasons.

He's considerably better than a couple of other midfielders that were sold this summer for similar fees and imo better than Alonso who was sold for at least £6m more last summer too.

Have to disagree on that one, Masch is half the player Alonso is.

I always thought them to be very different players. Sure, they may play in the same area of the park, but I felt Masch was much more accomplished at breaking down opposition attacks, while Alonso could spray the ball around the park straight to your boot.

Our recouped cash pot now stands at about £41m over the last 2 seasons, increasing by another £13m when Aqua is sold after this years lone, and the manager wont see a penny.

It's hardly the whole story though. Many of the ones you list for recouped cash were sold at a loss. Keane is a good example as that was a massive loss in only 6 months. Liverpool will probably lose about £10m on Aquilani as well if you take wages and signing on fees into account.

Lose a tenner on Aquilani, not too bad then. If we take wages into account we have spent an awful lot less than Arsenal, Utd or Chelsea (and Im pretty sure Spurs and City too).

The trouble with breaking up that Liverpool midfield is that the whole was greater than the sum of its parts:
Mascherano, Alonso and Gerrard were all very different players that complemented each other perfectly when they played together. If Liverpool had two decent wingers to go with them, that season they came second, they might well have won the League.

The balance of those 3 was never found after Alonso was sold (even though the price Liverpool got for him was excellent); Aquilani was a terrible piece of business however you look at it IMO and without Alonso's quality of distribution from deep, Mascherano looked a worse player last season, which might explain why he's gone for a lesser fee.

Pace and strength in abundance, but the same kind of shooting accuracy as a drunk Emile Heskey...
still could be an interesting wild card for the Hammers

A superior player ?

Based on what ?

They bought Yaya from Monaco in 2007 for about £7 or 8 million. Three years later they sell him to Man City for £25 million.

They then pay £16-18 million for a squad player which could end up costing a total of £22-24 million, not much profit. Absolute crazy.

I think Toure is more suited to Barca's style of play than Mascherano.

A superior player based on the fact Yaya couldnt get a game ahead of Busquets.

And Mascherano will ?

It was more to do with Toure wanting a pay rise but the club not offering to do it, than Toures ability.

And you talk as if Busquets is a pub player .... he's only played in two pro seasons and look at what he has accomplished already .....

yeah we really really do, but didn't Wenger say in an interview on Sky Sports News yesterday that our transfer dealings are now 'finished' and that no-one else will be brought in this window... :(

Didn't agree with the last few lines but the above is spot on.

I'm not happy with the way Mascherano has acted over the last few weeks but I can undertand his reasons for wanting to leave. Been a great servant and will be a massive loss.

It will be a massive mistake if he leaves it at that. We are crying out for a proper GK
