/re lansbury.

View from a forest fan, player i wish we'd go in for.

Davies obviously wants a gifted attacking scoring midfielder. With the pursuits of prattley and whitingham from cardiff that are never going to happen, Henri for a year would be ideal.

Watched him play on sky a couple of times last season for watford, a class above everything else on the pitch. Winning the ball, building moves, finishing the ball.... seemed to have it all. On the wire, very zidane like without the magic, technicaly clever feet, has the strengh to roll through the middle, seemed to run off the ball just as well.

Only thing i couldn't see was his positional play off the ball reguards to the formation, something that'll make or break him at arsenal id imagine, in line with arsene's way of thinking.

Any championship club will be lucked in on getting this guy, seemed to have a decent attitude to boot.

Sounds promising! Might be what we've been lacking since we lost Delph.

Wonder why it seems Arsenal have only accepted the loan bid from Leeds. Sounds like he should be a bit more popular.

Gyan arrives in the uk following Quinns meeting in france with player and cub..hopefully that means fee agreed and just personal terms to sort out

That Gyan looked good in the World Cup, was hoping Fulham would go after him. Not sure what deals we're going to wrap up. Imagine it'll be along the lines of a GK (Given on loan), left back (perhaps, Drenthe), centre mid ideally and maybe a striker (Gudjohnsen i hope). But tomorrow till tell us :). 6pm isn't it, the deadline?

Apparently Given has decided to stay at City to fight for his place which as we all know is football talk for Fulham not agreeing to pay his ridiculous wage demands. This probably means Almunia will still be Arsenal's no. 1 :(

Yeah, I saw that in the Guardian - no quotes though, which I generally wait for.

Rumours of ligament damage to Stockdale too, which kept him from an England call up apparently. If that's the case...we need two keepers :(

Yeah no quotes so it could just as easily be made up, but I seem to remember him having high wage demands and that's why Wenger didn't go for him before, can't imagine Fulham being able to offer more than Arsenal (I really hope they do)

It would be a loan deal (to start with - possibly perm later), probably paying the max we can..which is ~30-45k/week. He's probably on £80-110k.

Straight swap. Wojciech Szczesny on loan for the season, Schwarzer move. You heard it here first.

They haven't :/

I believe Swansea's bid has been accepted too, but Watford and S****horpe's were turned down. It's up to the player now, I guess having Watt will help him go there.

Why the lack of love for Almunia? He's been capable so far, he's made some good saves and I believe our defense has let him down a fair few times already.

Because he did his usual flapping at crosses very very badly against Liverpool let in a goal he probably shouldn't of, didn't look remotely good and since then we've played two pretty crap teams. He looked dodgey in preseason and he's looked dodgey for 4-5 years, not looking awful against a Blackpool who weren't a presence in our half at all, and Blackburn that scored in a pretty bad performance doesn't somehow make him look decent.

More of Wengers ambition, "we need a keeper" is what we heard as one of his excuses at the end of the season, so he's bid a couple times a very small amount of a decent yet end of his career keeper, clearly yet again hoping for a short term fix hoping one of the youngsters will come through. Mannone shows a tiny bit of promise, Szczesny looks significantly more promising, but he's yet to show anything like the ability of a Cech or Given and frankly he shown without question he even has the potential to look that good. Problem is we NEED someone that good, NOW.

I don't think Almunia is good enough for Arsenal, it's not just come on all of a sudden.

They've never replaced good old Mr Ponytail.

Really thought it would have being top of the list this summer for Arsenal.

Nah, we had the raving lunatic kraut for a while. Only had one glaring mistake that I remember, when it mattered the most...

Lehman had two or three mistakes, but so has Cech, Cassilas, Valdes, VDS, all players make mistakes, the difference is with keepers mistakes lead to goals FAR more often than mistakes by other players.

Lehman was excellent, and we've not replaced him, I think that last season Wenger was in his usual "lehman is old, must get rid rather than offer a realistic wage for a guy doing his job" mode. He started playing Almunia more and more to get him more used to first team action before letting Lehman go, which just sort of naturally led to Almunia becoming number 1, though it wasn't for ability, but because Wenger wanted to get rid of Lehman end of the season and didn't want a keeper with no where near enough experience. however he seemed to forget that was the reason he was playing Almunia and started acting like he was good enough.

The Sun has it that we are offering 4mil for Schwarzer, a ridiculous fee for someone whose 37 and just about done for his career and isn't THAT good, Casillas, Cech, Valdes at 37, maybe 4mil. Jesus Given at what 32 was 8million.

But the truly ridiculous thing is, had he offed 4mil 3 months ago before the world cup, Schwarzer would have had an entire preseason to get to know the players and establish a bit of communication and get some practice with the new defenders.

Also 4mil 3 months ago would have been a pretty easy choice for Fulham, who would have plenty of time to find a replacement. 4mil on the final day of the transfer window, if Given isn't allowed to go to work under Hughes, then they've got no time to find a replacement and the deal is off, all for 2 million that Wenger wouldn't offer 3 months ago despite pointing out Arsenal need a new keeper 3 months ago.

I'm completely fed up with his ridiculous "lets save a million" last day tactics, its worked, not once, ever, its cost us players time and time again, and frankly the quality of players available in the dying seconds of the transfer window are players people simply don't think are "that" good and they really don't want to spend a penny more than they have to on. Players who are THAT good, are snapped up earlier without too much fuss.

Its pathetic, what if 4 million 3 months ago gets us Schwarzer and already may have won us 2 points by being better against Liverpool? To be fair, we've got a stupidly easy start to the season, but come the big test games in Oct/Nov, Arsenal will still be 2 months further behind where they could be if we just did the damn deal.

Though Silvestre sucked balls, we're WAY down defensively on where we were last season, Djourou's a non entity, in the past season we've lost Senderos, Gallas(the real captain as EVERYONE said last season), Silvestre(probably/maybe useful in training/dressing room), Sol(again tonnes of experience, won loads of stuff, HUGE, captain like figure). We've gotten two untested, not particularly experienced never before played in the league defenders in replacement of what have been two giants and one incredibly experienced player in the league, even if he's utterly turd now.

Then theres Chamakh, who I said........ why, why why are we going to pay 80k a week, for a guy who will end up playing on the wing. Where did he play most of the second half, the wing, with Theo the completely incapable of holding the ball up pratt upfront as a lone striker. Yes they might end up being great defenders, but we lost two great defenders, we lost all the actual experience at the club. Sol and Gallas have won loads of things, are the old heads at the club, Gallas considered by much of the club as the real captain last year.

So on top of being worse than last year, are last gasp attempt to become a title challenging side is to buy a 4million quid, overpriced 37 year old whose not world class anyway, and for no reason we've made it 100 times harder than it needed to be?

Its funny when Liverpool say "its our year" every year, its funny when Spurs said it(when it wasn't true), its no longer funny seeing Arsenal say we're a little older now, its our year finally....... again, and again, and again.
