Because he said "Neither look/looked good enough to challenge at the top of the prem" when he was part of the invincibles team which won the league. So obviously he `was` good enough. That was why. :p

I think Almunia's main problem is that he gets bullied by the defenders. Lehman never took any C### from anyone, even if he boarded the insanity levels with his pushing. Still entertaining :D

I can see your point it just looked as if you were going a bit overboard with your post. >_>

I would say that Lehmann made some absolute top quality saves but he wasn't doing that game after game and his temper got the better of him on many occasions. You can't risk having someone as volatile as him in goal, he's crazy. Almunia needs to have a go at the defenders more, at the moment they just seem to try and coast through games doing as little as possible, the only one who looks like he enjoys getting stuck in is Vermaelen, we need more guys like him and from first impressions that isn't Koscielny. Vermaelen came in and made an impact from day one, Koscielny just looks like a rabbit in the headlights at times.

I'd credit the unbeaten run to the defense just as much as the goalkeeper, but at the same time it didn't really matter if Lehmann was a nutter because we had Thierry Henry in his prime up front.

Schalke seem to be spending loads! :o

oohh come on - Lehmann is as sane as they come compared to Fabian Barthez (the failed frog) :D

He had an excuse though, it was just his cueball absorbing all the sun rays. :)

^^^ You are allowed to say Crap by the way. :) It's not a swear word.

Looks very unlikely we will sign Schwz, i'm happy with Almunia.

He is a good goalkeeper and his performance against Barcelona will always remind of why he is such a good shot-stopper.

It's just his decision making which he needs to improve on.

We are delighted to announce the signing of Stipe Pletikosa from Spartak Moscow on a season-long loan.

The Croatia goalkeeper, 31, began his career with Hajduk Split and was a member of their league championship winning side of 2001.

He also lifted two Croatian Cups during more than 172 appearances for his hometown club and scored six goals from the penalty spot. His performances during the 2001/02 campaign earned him the Croatian Player of the Year accolade.

Pletikosa moved to Spartak in 2007, following four years with Shakhtar Donetsk, and appeared against us in our UEFA Cup Group match in December 2008 at White Hart Lane.

Capped at every international level from Under-15 upwards, Pletikosa has gone on to win 80 caps for the senior national side including appearing in the World Cup Finals of 2002 and 2006 and the 2008 European Championships

Nunez has signed permanently for Leeds, and it looks like Clayton is about to too.

We're also now being linked with Kyle Lafferty. Not sure how many forwards we need, we have Becchio, Paynter, Snodgrass, Gradel, McCormack, Nunez (M/F), Sam, Watt, Somma, Grella... Some are wingers that can play up front, and a couple are injured, but still, that's far too many to buy more!

I am so unspeakably angry with Arsene Wenger for failing to sign a keeper and clearly there's no way it's going to happen now at this late stage.

It's been proven so many times that Almunia/Fabianski don't cut it, and this failure to sign anyone will have an impact on our ability to challenge for honours, I have no doubts about it whatsoever.

Ahhh Lehmann the crazy german GK we had for quite a few yrs lol...he was awesome with that temperment he had...loved seeing him pushing and bullying people around.

Just a shame that Arsenal havent been able to replace him:(...looks like we will have to do with Flappy and Almunia this season unless Wenger buys a GK in Jan.
