I am so unspeakably angry with Arsene Wenger for failing to sign a keeper and clearly there's no way it's going to happen now at this late stage.

It's been proven so many times that Almunia/Fabianski don't cut it, and this failure to sign anyone will have an impact on our ability to challenge for honours, I have no doubts about it whatsoever.

Don't lose faith, even if nothing happens now then there's the possibility of January. Barring the signing of a new goalkeeper I'd say this transfer window has been a success, on the whole. We could have gotten rid of a few people like Diaby but so far he hasn't been that bad, he's contributed at least and I think he's done more in a few games so far than he did all last year. Almunia isn't *that* bad. He hasn't cost us yet and I don't think he's really looked that shaky, when people say he's been flapping he hasn't been flapping at all, he just decides to punch when perhaps he should catch, he's no Fabianski that's fer sher. He isn't going to cost us, he did his best against N'gog there wasn't much else he could have done in my opinion.

lol, last year we played Pompie around the same time and Diaby had scored 2 by now, this year he's scored less and been even less involved in the general all around play, he's barely invovled going forwards, and he's completely uninvolved defensively, he runs away from anywhere useful and from corners he's continuing his defensive headers down into the worst possible area's of the box thing he does.

He's worse again than last year, wastes a space on the team and prevents better people playing. Some people are talking about his discipline in not running forwards being fantastic, it would be if he was remotely useful defending, but people run/pass right by him like he isn't there. He's ALWAYS been an attacking player, being "disciplined" and staying back loses the tiny bit of his game that can occasionally be effective.

I mean defensively, look at the Barca games, he didn't get forward, and he didn't spend even 4 seconds in that game closing people down in midfield, 2/3 of the goals came from people standing near him chipping the ball over the midfield and defense, and he stood there not even attempting to put pressure on those players, he's lazy, nto disciplined, he's useless defensive and he's all but given up running forward.

Eduardo is apparently banging them in again since he's gotten consistant games, I'm sure Vela would if he got consistant games, we've got a ridiculous amount of quality sitting on the bench for the past 4 seasons while we play useless guys out on the field.

We could sign Casillas, or Lloris, Cech, Given, Hart, it doesn't matter, our problem is in midfield, and always has been.

Arsenal aren't winning anything important without replacing Diaby, Song, Denilson, Almunia, Sagna and probably getting one more defender as we'll no doubt get injuries and end up with a new guy + djourou or song in defence. Heck we might end up with Djourou and Song in defence :(

If Birmingham get Hleb that's a real coup for them...

I am pleased overall with our transfer dealings this summer K1LLSW1TCH, signed some hopefully decent centre-backs and a tall striker, plus we managed to cling onto Cesc. Maybe another tall/strong defensive-mid would have been nice (I would have liked to see us sign someone like N'Zonzi) but I'll take it for sure.

The thing about the whole goalkeeping situation is we clearly tried to sign Mark Schwarzer, twice. I think we can be certain that's not speculation or gossip. So that is a clear assertion on Wenger's part that he doesn't think Almunia is good enough. He's weak on corners and set-pieces, but we survived Blackburn's aerial bombardment relatively well, so perhaps you're right that he's not as bad as we make out, but everytime that ball was pumped in we were relying on heroics from the centre-halves. I'm still not confident that he has the authority to command the box and come and get it if he has to. More importantly, Wenger isn't confident either, because we failingly tried to sign Schwarzer (among others?).

It's just disappointing that he leaves things to fester like this. :-\

Babel off to London? Please no. There've been whispers about us making an enquiry.
All four of your strikers are better than him. He's a complete waste of space but having said I would like it to be true I can't see us replacing him so late in the day. We'll be told all of the money was available to spend but we didn't have enough time to spend it then in January the money will have magically disappeared.

Edit: Oh FFS. SSN saying we're after Cole. I'd rather sign Cheryl Cole.

1419: Sky Sports report that Liverpool striker Ryan Babel is in a helicopter heading to Tottenham as we speak (or write, or tweet or whatever).

Spurs fans frantically hoping for strong crosswinds? Looking for places where they can buy ground to air missile launchers? Hoping those notoriously fallible helicopter engines break? :D

He'd suit the system Hodgson plays, which'll have Torres scoring all the goals...but I don't think it's gonna be a cheap deal just to play the system :/

Looks like Fulham are running out of time to sign the striker that Hughes wanted, IF any deals happen it'll be the youngster(s) from Liverpool & possibly Drenthe, if there's any truth in that at all. Other than that, can only expect a surprise signing really.

Why do Fulham want/need another striker? Is Andy Johnson's knee never going to improve?

You still have Gera, Zamora, Dembélé, Dempsey, Kamara, probably some more I can't remember...

I'd rather sign Cheryl Cole than most people. And by sign I mean...

Anyway, bit gutted that it looks like Babel might be off. He's been a total waste of space since joining us, but I was looking forward to seeing him up top rather than on the wing...

Failed in Spain, failed in Italy so he might as well try his luck in Germany.

Edit: SSN reporting Babel's on his way to Spurs. Please let it be true.

Who can't score in Germany :p

Robben and Ribery's goal scoring went nuts when they went over there, and weren't very high scoring in Spain/france/elsewhere. Robben scored like 10 in a full season at Real, and scored 16 in 18 starts in Germany his first season.

Does anyone watch the german league, does he score loads against the worst teams or is the league generally high scoring? Robben and Ribery seemed to be much worse in the champs league/for country than their reputation/form in germany suggests. Robben wasn't half bad but Ribery was woeful in the CL last year.

EDIT:- Seriously, is there anyone Redknapp doesn't want to sign?

I'm now pleased to see the back of Huntelaar. €13m by all accounts which doesn't equate to £10.5m but meh.

Now we just need to get Borriello shipped out. Refused a loan move to Juventus as he wants to leave for good or stay. Roma have asked Unicredit for €15m to make it happen and Juventus are trying to see if they can get anyone else - a €20m bid for Pazzini appears to have been rejected. Borriello was linked to Liverpool mid-morning but I don't believe it. He wants more playing time, not to sit on the bench when Torres is fit. Tottenham have been mentioned briefly too.

Meanwhile, Kaladze failed his medical at Genoa yesterday but we're trying to now exchange him fro Fabio Grosso - who isn't keen on the mvoe. Grosso...of all the players who would have played for the big three if that goes through, he's clearly the worst of them.
