I would imagine Lloris would command 10m+ but hes very good from what i have seen on the Ligue 1 roundups on sky etc sometimes...

I very seriously doubt Lyon would sell Lloris for anything under £20m... he is arguably their best player, and their best prospect for the future (with Pjanic as well).

Both him and Akinfeev, if they ever do move from their clubs in the future, it's going to be for a lot of money in goal keeping terms.

There's other good (youngish) keepers out there though, Manuel Neuer and Sergio Asenjo could both be good bets in the future.

I think Wenger is giving Almunia till Jan to see how he does ie if he drops us points then Wenger will probably try and sign a keeper in Jan....but i fear by then it will be too late.

Personally if i was Wenger i would have gone for Lloris, Steklenburg or Akinfeev. Those would have been my first choices and maybe Given as well.

I think the only thing stopping people going for Given would probably be his wage demands... Seems to be a problem with Citeh getting rid of their players now, they all high wages.

By choice, or necessity?

Both probably...dont personally think Wenger was going to sign any keeper this transfer window even though we were linked with Schwarzer who im kinda glad we didnt get as hes far too old i think....he may be good but we really need a young-ish keeper who can develop into something decent.

I really do hope Almunia now picks up his game and stops making those stupid little mistakes that cost us games...if he can then great but im not holding my breath on that happening.

Hopefully and fingers crossed Wenger will get his finger out and sign a world class keeper come Jan.

Didn't he bid £2m twice for Schwarzer? Followed by £4m on deadline day?

Tbh Skippster:p i dont know as ive been pre-occupied with family from Canada and then the whole pak cricket debacle so i dont know what the heck went on with Arsenal and their intention to sign Schwarzer...ive heard we did offer £4mill but nothing happened....think fulham and Hughes want too much for him and we all know tight fisted Wenger isnt going to splash money on someone whos more or less coming to the end of his career.

Bid £2m twice, and apparently contacted Fulham on deadline day, no offer was made, though. If we had got Given/any of the keepers we were interested in, we probably would have accepted £3m or so which I think is a good enough deal. His contract is worth quite a bit to us, plus the extra to actually make us sell.

So... the conversation has actually progressed from Biz 's delusions of grandeur?

I can see Almunia costing Arsenal another 5/6 crucial points this season, when he's good he's certainly good enough, but when he's bad, it's genuinely comical.

Yeah, I doubt the chance to even make an offer would have occurred, since circumstances pretty much dictated you guys would just say no straight away.

I doubt we'll sign an amazing keeper in January, but I wouldn't complain if we just got someone solid in.

Almunia is actually a clown, after fuming for a few hours i just lol throughout MOTD.

If Wenger just put down the 4 million for Schwarzer months ago we'd have gotten him easily, it was clear as day Fulham needed to bring someone to replace him, so putting in a last second bid was going to be a huge failure. IF he'd just offered the damn money at the right time without being such a stupidly tight git, we'd have gotten him, not ideal but a big improvement on Almunia, and that would have given Fulham time to find a replacement.

Complete failure of a transfer window, brought in two unknown quality CB's to replace to CB's who were/had been world class and were very good, and didn't replace Silvestre, instead relying on the utterly awful Djourou who still can't get himself fit. Worse than last season, unless either CB turns out to be truly truly excellent AND not get injured, and the chances of that are incredibly slim.

A couple of the sites also suggest we had a offer for Akinfeev all sorted, agreed personal terms and had the deal ready to go on the last day of the transfer window last Jan, and Wenger pulled the plug, thinking it cost to much, or thinking he still thought Fabianski or the younger guy would come through and it would be a waste, so what then sell whoever you buy if one of the youngsters do come through, if they don't they don't and you have a keeper, and you have a keeper inbetween. He's an idiot, I can't believe others think we should get a DM, we do, without question, we need a first team, a backup, and a youth or two as our youngsters in that position are so weak, Eastlands, Frimpong, can't see them being good enough or even close, the reason I say that is usually this forum is full of people who think Song is pretty much world class as a DM.

Lloris is too expensive for Arsenal, in fact, I doubt anybody will match Lyon's valuation, they drive a realllly hard bargain and when you're talking £20m+ for a goalkeeper it enters the realm of too expensive for anybody besides Real/Barca/Chelsea/City

Glad Arsenal didn't go for Given, refuse to believe I'm the only one who thinks he's over rated (well obviously not, given [lol] how easily Hart has brushed him aside) and exactly the type of 'keeper Arsenal don't need i.e. a small one who is afraid to come for crosses.

At one point he was making his way down to us (lucas)
The Liverpool to London train doesnt pass through Stoke. Nearest it gets is Crewe. ;)

Anyone else think that ManU have been unusually quiet this window? Been a bit disappointed tbh, was hoping to see them strengthen quite a bit, give Chelsea a good run...

Given=Shot Stopping,reflexes,penalties
Doesnt=Claiming crosses/corners...which is where a large majority of the goals we conceded were from which is why Hart is in as he can do 90% of Given's strengths but can also claim crosses etc

Given is just over rated, good reason no better club then City came in for him and especially after such a long time being talked about as a "great" keeper.

I love it how some city fans think they're the best thing since sliced bread now and start playing the jealously/bitter card, come back at the end of the season IF you're actually in the top four or have made any headway in europe and THEN you can talk, New Money.

And they all drive bloody white Audis, the ********!! (can I say that?)

Genuinely don't think we need to. At the moment we have a solid squad. Next summer might be a different story depending on Scholes/Giggs' plans.
