Alan Smith is woeful. Berbatov is light years ahead of him, lazy or not.

He wasnt woeful, he merely experienced the dreadful disease that infects everyone who has transfered to the players graveyard that is NUFC.

Look what has happened to Scott Parker and Lee Bowyer since they left, they have magically regained their footballing powers again.

Reports claiming that Di Maria has signed for Real Madrid, already signing players without Jose's say so then! That club will never learn

At least all these big names are slowly being whittled down; Ribery signing a new contract, Di Maria going to Real, City bidding stupid money for Milner ruling everyone else out

Same morning claiming that RM are still after DSilva also (who was meant to sign before last weekend) although there may be a sliver of hope for Utd

Only have about 15 days or so before the WC - cant see Utd waiting until after to sign anyone (wont matter so much to Chelsea / City), so get it sorted already Fergie :)

This close season is really one where he does have to move quickly, If he doesnt even the most average of players will be priced out of the clubs reach.
Its no good him saying the team doesnt need signings, it does and not just mabye one or two, but a minimum of 4, those being a Goal keeper, striker, and any combination of two midfielders/Center half/right full back/ proper left winger and perhaps the most important a new assistant coach who will stand up to ferguson and tell him when his team selection or tactics are not right.

yeah but see the thing is....you're wrong. We don't NEED those things, you just want them.

We have two premiership quality goalies, we don't NEED another. Not until VDS is ready to retire.

Likewise we don't need a midfielder (let alone two) unless we offload some of the ones we already have (which isn't looking likely)

Centre backs again we have five and then a few youngsters, I'd like to see a signing but unless we sell one then we don't need it.

right back? We have four for god's sake, unless he's going to sell o'shea or brown then we don't need one. Buying a right back now would essentially mean giving up on Rafael, he already isn't getting enough games.

Left winger I do agree with but then who would you want? I can only think of Silva and Di Maria who we've been linked with and they would both be incredibly expensive.

Utd dont *NEED* anyone, but they could do with probably another good striker, and probably a goalscoring midfielder? But with that Hernandez signing and Diouf etc, can only see maybe a big name signing in the centre of midfield. Is Tosic leaving? If so could possibly see a left winger for your lot, to replace him and Giggs at a later stage.

DM will hunt you down for that :D

Personally I think he has done better lately. I dont think we can really afford to offload anyone with our limited squad. Its handy having someone to cover RB especially with Sagna not having the best of seasons.

Anyone have any news on any young players coming through to the 1st team?

Eboue is ok...he has a good work rate ie running around like a lunatic around the field ie chasing down balls etc so i have to commend him on that....its just his end product isnt quite there yet...hes a bit like Walcott in a lot of ways although id rather have him than Walcott in all honesty....whats the point in having all that pace when half the time it doesnt result in anything??

No idea on which young players are coming through yet.

Fulham rumours atm; Nicky Shorey, Luke Young, Joe Ledley, Stephen Hunt, Charles Insomnia. Wouldn't mind Shorey or Young, Hunt would possibly suit us, but I don't like him. N'Zogbia is probably too expensive.

Oh and apparently Gera has turned down a link with Roma too.

if you want a bit of a lowdown on our kids check out this blog:
http://younggunsblog.co.uk/

I generally avoid football blogs as they are full of complete and utter crap for the most part, but this one bucks the trend pleasingly.

To be honest I don't expect many of our kids to get towards the first team any time soon (obviously we'll still see them in the Carling Cup). I mean Jack Wilshere was impressive for Bolton in the last 10-15 games of last season, but I still think his chances here would be extremely limited, even if we do sell Cesc this summer. I imagine he'll go out on loan, at least for the first half of next season, rather than sit here and stagnate.

Lansbury is the lad that has really been touted as a future national star. I only saw him play a few times for Watford on the Championship highlights program, I know he played most games of their season, but again, I don't see him breaking into our first XI.

As for the older ones that have already played bit-part roles over the last season, I don't know if anyone is expecting much? There was talk of Mérida moving back to Spain because he's not getting the games. Eastmond has looked nervy and error-prone when I've seen him. A few of them seem to be getting on for their twenties now without really having amounted to much... I mean Randall's 20 now, only played a few games for MK Dons last year, Barazite totally dropped off the radar last season, and Nordtveidt is 19, he needs a full-season of games somewhere next year...

One to look forward to is a Brazilian kid joining us next January called Wellington Silva, he's supposedly bound for great things, but they do say that about all of the Brazilian exports....

Ugh, it's going to be another Premiership-less season for us isn't it?

I swear sometimes SAF is too stubborn for his own good.

09:22 Let the nudging and whispering commence for another day, starting off with a cracker. Caughtoffside.com claims United are weighing up a massive bid for Roma captain Daniele De Rossi, with the Reds are allegedly set to go as high as £38million for the tough-tackling Italian midfielder.

If only :(

United dont have 2 prem quality goal keepers, they have one, who is 40.
They have 3 midfielders who will likely be ready for action come new season who are under 36, Anderson, Carrick and Gibson, and whoever you listen to 1 2 or all three are either not good enough or being transfered.

Right backs, O'shea is not good enough, Brown and Neville are never fit, leaving Rafeal.

and so it goes on, there are plenty of players there, only a handfull of which are up to pushing for honours next season.
Its all right trotting out numbers of playing staff, till you actually look at ages, form, injury records and out right ability.

We need the same amount of players we needed last summer, he didnt buy them, we won nothing of any worth, mainly because of failings in those areas, the weak goal keeping position, the lack of quality back up at center half, the weak midifield, the lack of firepower up front...

Its a case of a huge amount of average past it players and not enough out right quality in the squad.

The question you have to ask yourself is who would remain on the playing staff were say, jose to be made manager?

Ferdinand, Vidic, Rooney, Evra, possibly Carrick, Valencia and Nani of the first team squad.

You've lost all right to have an opinion when you think we did wrong by getting rid of Alan Smith ;)

You forgot Fletcher and Hargreaves (fingers crossed)

Right... O'Shea is not good enough and Brown and Neville are never fit...but they're still on the payroll so if we're not selling them how do propose on managing our wage bill if we buy another right back? And who would you buy? How much do you think they would cost?

I'm afraid we do have 2 premiership quality keepers, PIG did really well last season when VDS was out, how many other premiership clubs can you think of who have a backup as good? And how does VDS being 40 have anything to do with it? He isn't retiring and we aren't selling him so he has to play, he's not going to warm the bench is he. It's pointless buying another keeper until he retires.

Say what you like, just look back to when he was transfered out on the message board.

Some very disappointed United fans.

yeah but a lot of football fans are idiots. You can't possibly think Smith was ever good enough for United. I like him as a player but 7 goals in 61 appearances speaks for itself.
