To be fair Miroslav Klose was top scorer in 1 world cup and 2nd top scorer in another world cup and has a 1 in 2 goal/game ratio for Germany. I actually think he is a very accomplished striker, though getting on in years now.

I spotted Klose in the list but decided to let it slide. Quite ridiculous international scoring record and I'm sure he'll be popping up with a few next month despite his age. :)

Grafite is travelling with Brazil IIRC too, I'm sure he'll grab a couple.

hm yes and no, didnt he bag 3 goals vs Saudi Arabia or something when he was top scorer. and then just 2 in other games?

he is a crouchio, but without the skill. or flair.

i would argue he teammate were always the more talented as a striker, like Podolski or something?

Except he has pace and doesn't look like he learnt to walk the day before. Chips in with a fair few assists in the German side too (a lot of the time to his Polish/German buddy Podolski yes :p)

Define it how you want, but 48 international goals in 94 international games is hardly done without skill.

thats like me saying crouch has scored 21 in 38 so he must have some pace?

klose is the tap in expert and a heading whiz. not based around taking people on bycicle kicks, or 30 yarders.

so was close worth 34 million?

Not really, as pace is not inherently linked to goalscoring. If in order to score goals you had to have pace then it would be like you saying that, but as scoring goals is the result of a combination of factors dictating that pace doesnt equal goals then no.

However the goals are scored, tap ins, headers, going round people or 30 yarders they all count. Or are you suggesting that Ian Rush (for example) was an unskilled striker as the huge majority of his goals came from tap ins?

I wouldnt say that Klose is worth 34 million no...but equally I would hardly define Klose as someone who is not "decent" as you suggested.

wait, all i said was:

show me klose beating a man, or doing a bycicle kick on a regular basis, and i will change my opinion and i might agree with you.

i never said he wasnt decent. just not 34million decent. id rather have crouch.

I thought you said fairly clearly up above "name one of those strikers who is decent", thereby indicating that you felt that none of the above listed strikers qualified as decent?

That to me suggests quite strongly that you did indeed say he wasnt decent.

in the same breathe i also qualified that with:

"or has done anything since or even before?"

someone put up an argument for klose being a wc top scorer, but really grabbing a hattrick in a shalacking of Saudi Arabia isnt really what you want if you are trying to assert that he is a good player. dont get me wrong he has score a lot of goals but he is certainly not much better than decent if that.

That was me, and the wc top scorer was me giving just one aspect of why he was a good player. His overall international record confirms that.

I am somewhat puzzled by what you consider to be a good way to judge whether someone is a "decent" player. If you are a striker and you have a 1:2 international record then I would suggest that inherently shows that you are a decent player. If it didnt, if having a 1:2 international ratio was so average then we would have masses of players with similar ratios.

If your criteria is that you have to go around people and score bicycle kicks regularly in order to be a "decent" player then I could give you a massive list of strikers who scored absolutely stack loads of goals who hardly ever went round players (Ian Rush to rename the one I mentioned earlier) and can only assume that under your criteria that person would NOT be a "decent" player.

Well Real have said Higauin is not for sale so maybe just Gago then along with possibly Milner and (hopefully not) Dzeko

Still wont be bad 3 signings although how many defensive midfielders does Mancini want ;)

Fulham Rumours

Rumours of Arsenal after Schwarzer, and Fulham after Speroni to replace him. Wouldn't mind that too much, as long as it was a fairly decent price.

Also that Birmingham are set to bid £10m for Zamora and Konchesky. That isn't near enough imo.

Also Fulham are 7th in the UEFA Team Coefficients for 2009/10. Not bad. We’re the second highest English team after Manchester United. Atletico Madrid are 9th, oddly?

Fresh rumours of Brede to Man Utd, too.
