I do apologise, we missed it 3 seasons, but still, hardly a sinking ship, under Wenger we have been in the Champions League now for 11 years running which is a better record than Real Madrid and with a budget which compared to Madrid is nothing.

Not only the Champions League, but all throughout our history we have made records and won cups, if you want to take a look at a sinking ship then go pester the Liverspuds fans.

Arsenal have very little European pedigree compared with Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Arsenal haven't won a European Cup have they?

*Just saying :p*

Yes we have actually. :p

Just saying that Tom84 should actually think about what he's typing before he actually posts, likening us to some kind of team that are going under when in reality we are probably in as healthy position now as we've been in the last 5 or 6 years since Vieira, Henry et al were sold. We've almost won the league in the last few years, we were in the running another 2 years also so, ya know.

Anybody else really hate Toure's agent :(?

City or Chelsea imo, I get the distinct impression he's going where the big money is. I would be surprised if Man Utd paid £25m-30m and then huge wages for him, especially with Fletcher doing a similar job and to a similar standard.

He has a point kinda.

imo, Arsenal aren't a "sinking ship" were they ever really a big ship? They've not been for a fair few seasons.

They have a good squad, they have a excellent manager, but aren't "challenging" for the League and aren't in Europe recently.

Cast your mind back to February-March time this season just gone, we could've won the damn thing if we'd put fugly teams away but instead gave away silly goals, the Wigan game still haunts me, how we could throw that away with poor defending and a dodgy keeper. It's not as if we are a catastrophically bad team, we are actually an excellent team, we just have a few individuals who constantly let the side down but Wenger seems to keep faith in them. Everyone knows of our GK and defensive woes and in my opinion when those are sorted we will make a lot of people sit up and take notice. As for "were we ever a big ship" yes, we were and we are.

Arsenal's tally of thirteen League Championships is the third highest in English football, after Liverpool and Manchester United, while the total of ten FA Cups is the second highest, after Manchester United. Arsenal have achieved three League and FA Cup "Doubles" (in 1971, 1998 and 2002), a record shared with Manchester United, and in 1993 were the first side in English football to complete the FA Cup and League Cup double. They were also the first London club to reach the final of the UEFA Champions League, in 2006.
Arsenal have one of the best top-flight records in history, having finished below fourteenth only seven times. Arsenal also have the highest average league finishing position for the period 1900–1999, with an average league placing of 8.5. In addition, they are one of only six clubs to have won the FA Cup twice in succession, in 2002 and 2003.

thing is, he's got some silky skills as well, he played dm at Barca and stuck to it admirably but back in the day he was quite exciting.

You haven't been coming "close" though have you? How many points have Arsenal been off top spot over the past 5/6 seasons?

I think Arsenal, as I've said have a good squad and an excellent manager.

Manchester United are a big ship, Liverpool a big ship that's got a nutty captain, and Chelsea a very rich ship with City a rich ship.

Arsenal are a very well ran ship :p

I'm still not really sure why he's declined this season, somebody suggested that perhaps it was due to Busquets being Spanish and therefore favoured over the Ivorian. Who knows. He's a decent player, though have to admit even though he's lanky and well built, I don't think he's got the pace to play in an EPL side.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree mate I don't want to take the thread too OT, as you know from our past conversations we don't ever seem to end up seeing eye to eye. :p

I'll take your compliment that we're a very well ran ship and that's about it I'm afraid! :D

HAHA :)

Ahhh the good old days of our "debates" :D

A well run ship is better then a ship that's falling apart with no staff, no money and getting in to more and more shallow water.

You obviously weremt watching this season then. With ten odd games to go with a better run in, we were certainly "challenging" for the title. Its just they blew it just like Utd did. Its just we blew it more spectacularly :p

If being the 2nd most consistent team over the past 10 years in the premiership doesnt make us a big team then I dont know what is a "big" team.

You mean like Utd or Liverpool? :p

Arsenal also lead the league for most of 07/08 then fell apart for whatever reason around when Taylor broke Eduardo's leg

This season Arsenal were there or thereabouts for the most part, besides the last few weeks

There have been a few dodgy seasons inbetween but they're definitely not a sinking ship, more of an up and down one that never quite reach the top but never fall too far. That is considering Man Utd had an excellent few years, as did Chelsea, where both teams were pretty much the best in Europe, it'd have been hard for any team in Europe to compete with those two over the last 5 years and Arsenal have done well to stay near

You weren't as you didn't win those games and finished just above fourth :p

IF only ;)

Arsenal are a good team, good squad and an excellent manager. They've been nearly men for the past X seasons, since the decline of the Henry / Pires batch. imo, of course.

I don't doubt your a "big" club in the Sky four :)

Newcastle are a "big" club, just not a succesful one :p

You mean like Utd or Liverpool? :p

I was talking about Wednesday :p

Can see how the arguement fits :p

You'd need to add two some silly americans and a crazy Scott to the mix though :p

Well doesnt that mean that at that point we were challenging then? Its just we blew it at the end.

Although we havent been successful with trophies we have picked up a few and fiancially we have been very successful. Personally I am looking forward to this new rule where you can only spend what your team makes.

Will be interesting to see how that effects the big spenders.

Not over the course of a season.

You were as good as your points tally suggests :p

I think it will be interesting to see how the rule affects the big clubs and how they try and get round it, Arsenal do spend money (Arseshaving and whatshisfacedefender Vermalator) Weren't "cheap"

Yeah but we sold £40m worth and bought about £25m. So still made about £15m profit

LOL my sinking ship comment was only in jest to wind up the gooners, looks like it worked a treat :D

Well nothing wrong with being passionate about your team and defending them. Unless you are DM and just slate your own team ;)
