Another thing, didn't he sign a new contract very recently with a bump up to £110k? He'd have to wait 2+ years to do it all anyway, so it's not an immediate worry

Yeah I thought he only signed a new agreement to boost his wages recently too. I bet his agent just threw this out there just to remind Arsenal that if he really wants to leave he can. More scare tactics.

I wish we would hear some positive stories about who we are going to buy rather than sell. I think that will be the deciding factor as to whether he stays for one more season or not. Wenger is going to have to break his normal system and spend big this summer to prove we mean business.

Cant see that happening tho

It's not official so I doubt there's a credible source really, it's a gentleman's rule apparently. If Barcelona actually forced him to do it, which is highly unlikely, then they'd obviously be willing to break any goodwill agreement and sign him

Also, I'm not 100% sure but I think Fifa would frown upon a player buying out his contract and then suddenly receiving 30m into his bank account, I'm sure it would be legally challenged and there would be a lot of issues. If a big player does it and sets the precedent, he's effectively going to make contracts worthless, as it would show anybody can do it anytime. I thought the clause was for players who were being mistreated and having their career's ruined, e.g. playing in the reserves, not for players who just fancy ignoring their contract and moving to another club, wasn't Webster (the guy it's named after) being played in the reserves as a punishment?

couple of points:
1. You are correct in that there is an agreement between the former g12 clubs not to take advantage of the webster clause among themselves. Obviously this is unenforcable so it is just a gentlemans agreement.
2. The clause if for any player and not just mistreated ones, there's Jack Fifa could do if it did happen.
3. on his contract amendment, the reason someone first brought it up is that apparently as it was a negotiation of renumeration rather than an extension(essentially a performance bonus with no calculable benefit to the club) then the 2+ year rule doesn't apply.

However one thing which I believe is in your favour as well is that if i remember correctly the webster clause has to be invoked within 2 weeks of the end of the season (intention stated).

No, this is the same 8 year contract he signed, just with a 'golden handcuffs' wage increase.

Yaya Toure has signed with a PL team, no one has been named yet but after seeing him say he didn't want to go to City I'd say it's either us or more likely Chelsea

He said he didn't want to join them either

His agent ruled them out as well, cant blame him for not wanting to join a sinking ship :p

I've not been that impressed with him to be honest but maybe regular football will put him back into form. I would say Utd would do better with him but Chelskis money and title will attract him more.

Why is it sinking exactly? Because Arsenal are maybe selling one player? Does that mean that Utd already sunk because they sold Ronaldo? :p

Chelsea don't need him, they have Essien for that position and Mikel as back up. Would be really shocked if he went there.

According to most yes

Cant find the article about him turning down City anywhere so must have just imaged that one, I'd say it's between them and Chelsea then. Cant see us being in for him tbh

If Chelsea have any sense and if Essien ever manages to string 5 games together they'd play him in a more attacking role to maybe finally live up to this hype about him being this best midfielder in the world jazz

Besides as Ballack wont be there next season wouldn't surprise me if it was a midfield of Lampard - Essien - Toure/Mikel or when Essien inevitably gets injured again Lampard - Toure - Mikel

I agree with you that Essien's best position is CM not DM but I'd still be shocked to see Toure go to Chelsea.

I think it will be one of the Manchester clubs (even though City totally don't need him either with their million DMs).

Not sure what you point is seeing as Arsenal haven't played in it every year since it's conception far from it actually

Although his facts werent right Arsenal have been the 2nd most consistent team over the past ten years so your sinking ship opinion is just as credible when facts come into it. :p

I do apologise, we missed it 3 seasons not far from it at all, and still, hardly a sinking ship, under Wenger we have been in the Champions League now for 11 years running which is a better record than Real Madrid and with a budget which compared to Madrid is nothing.

Not only the Champions League, but all throughout our history we have made records and won cups, if you want to take a look at a sinking ship then go pester the Liverspuds fans.
